First timer advice

hello,
What advice would you give to a person who recently started playing this game (hunter)?
What would save a lot of your time if you knew about something when you were playing for the first time?
All replies appreciated

For a hunter.

Don’t forget to update your pets skills by learning from other beasts as well as from the pet trainer.

Petopia ( just google it)

Make sure that in dungeons, you keep your pet on passive or he’ll taunt off the tank and it’ll be a mess.

had to learn it the hard way

Always keep your pet well fed. A happy pet performs better.

As a troll you can use a gun but bows are better for you.

In most cases your pet is your tank. Give it a moment to get a jump on aggro.

Fishing/cooking will save you a ton on pet food.

well you rolled horde thats a good start, saves you re-rolling later.
you picked hunter, good choice for questing and ganking and dps in general
sell everything that is white or above on AH, and vendor greys
troll hunter is pretty good, i would have gone orc

dont be afraid to do green quests. they give a little less xp but they get completed faster.

meanwhile orange/red quests give a little extra but take so much longer that it’s not the best idea to focus on.

Its TBC, focus on playing with friends and having fun.

try not racing to end game , go slow and enjoy what is left of the prior expansions.

Try to make friends with a guild ASAP so you can have some support down the road when you need to run dungeons to gear up, plenty are happy to take a hunter with them.

Make sure when you do dungeon to hit the skull marked target or the target the tank is hitting, and try not to multishot if your tank isn’t a paladin (if they are a paladin make sure to wait for them to throw down consecrate which is like a holy ground effect… you’ll know) until they have gathered enough threat on the enemies where they won’t attack you after multishotting. Usually by the time the skull is dead the tank will have gained sufficient agro so that’s usually the best time to dump AoE (if they are warrior or druid). Speaking of threat make sure to use tiny threat which comes with details addon to track your threat and damage dealt.

Keep 3 stacks of food on u at all times. Make sure you dont let your pet die (cause it uses more food) and make sure u pet is well fed at all times or else it can and will runaway.

Many gave specific hunter tips. I will give some general tips since you’re new to the game.

If you haven’t already, keybind as many abilities as you can. If you’re new to this, just add a few spells/abilities each time you play to new binds. It won’t feel overwhelming that way. Maybe do a google search or something on which keys are best to bind.

Don’t be afraid to let know people know you’re new to game and still learning the ropes. If they know this, they will be more forgiving and helpful.

Know your role in a dungeon or (later) raid. Know your skillset. For heroics and later raids, watch a quick video before running them the first time (they are many short videos on youtube).

Understand your stats and how they impact your dps, so you can decide which gear is an upgrade. There are add ons that do this for you as well.

Make friends. Classic community is better but it’s still sometimes hard to break into established groups and friendships. Ask to friend people, let people know you’re new and could use a guild, etc.

Good luck and hope you have fun.

this has been one of the hardest parts of the game for me. I try to bind keys but everytime I bind them, they just dont feel as efficient. I guess I will search it on the google. Thanks for other tips too

Professions matter. So, gathering is a REALLY good way to make money as a fresh character. Personally, I would go Mining and Skinning. You can start these at level 10.

Get familiar with the Auction House. If you aren’t sure of what might sell, look your item up to see if it’s worth money using the AH search bar. You should always sell whatever you can after a period of questing/adventuring. It adds up.

Bags. You should make it a priority to upgrade your bags. Start off by filling your slots with 6 slots, then an 8 or two, then work on getting a couple of 10’s. Later aim for 12’s and 14’s. The more bag storage you have, the more you can carry, which means you won’t be running to a vendor to sell trash as often. It also means you will be able to gather more to sell in one trip to the AH.

Run. Run away and never look back! Go enjoy your free time and other video games.

It’s too late for the rest of us. But for you… there’s still time!
