First time as Alliance

My main is geared and raiding, so I’ve decided to roll an Alliance character for the first time ever.

Are there any real differences between horde? Does anyone have any tips?

If you enjoy looking like a dorkus while riding a mount, choose Body Type 1 Space Goat.

do the quest zones in EK for humans & dwarves there’s some nice plotlines. Night Elf one is terrible so skip that. Beyond level 30-35 there is no discernible difference.

Thanks, ill be sure and run them!

A massive victim complex. That’s about it.

Oh, and a great quest in Hellfire for a drinking hat, that I definitely didn’t do x2 faction xfers in OG Wrath to get.

Darkshore is far superior to Westfall or Loch comrade. Much more quests and a fairly logical progression from north to south.

Alliance has some decent quest chains. Especially with the Defias. But nothing all that different after level 30 or so. One small caveat. It feels like Alliance has to do way more traveling between disconnected zones compared to Horde. For Horde, the Barrens, Stonelathon, and Ashenvale are all connected to each other For Alliance, Westfall is significantly separate from Loch Modan, and some of the quests in the Loch want you to run all the way around to the other side of the zone to do them.

I’m going to try Darkshore for my next Alliance alt. Because I think you’re right.

I’ve really enjoyed having characters on both sides, it adds a lot to the experience in my opinion.

I think the different starting zones are good in their own ways so I’m not going to comment on that part. I will say that you should though.

You will need 1 less hit due to the space goat babes. pvp humans are the best race, but if you don’t want to pvp as seriously the space goat hit is good.

It’s probably far from the most efficient, but over the years leveling soooo many alts, the “questing pathway” I take on most of my characters regardless of their race is doing Northshire Abbey in Elwynn Forest as my starting zone. I basically complete all of Elwynn and move on to Westfall (Run Deadmines for quests/EXP). As I work my way into the Deadmines quests and finishing up Westfall, transition I gradually into the lower level Redridge quests. Then I head into Duskwood as soon as there’s a handful of quests at level. Run Blackfathom Deeps here and there where possible. When I eventually get through a lot of Duskwood, I’ll run Stockades and go to Southshore. Once I quest a bit there, Scarlet Monastery will keep me busy for a bit.

From there you’ll have 1-3 options of where you want to play at any given time. From Southshore, I’ll go Dustwallow Marsh > A tiny bit of Swamp of Sorrows > Tanaris > Un’Goro Crater > Winterspring. All of these zones seem to transition into one another pretty nicely as long as you’re also doing some dungeons and their quests in the meantime. If you’ve got heirloom gear, you could probably cut out the dungeons altogether and still maintain a very natural pace through the zones.

Really? I find it completely the opposite! If Stormwind is the central hub for Alliance, you’re quite close to leveling zones, STV, BRM, etc! Maybe this was much moreso during Vanilla content, but still…

The only real hike for Alliance (and it’s a pretty big one) is to Scarlett Monastery. Esp. during p2 WoW Classic on a PVP server!

I meant pre level 30. After that, it doesn’t really matter IMO because both sides are doing most of the same zones.

I guess it depends on which race you go for… but for Human, it seems very central around Stormwind and surrounding area…

Even post level 30 is still not great for alliance.

Desolace is stranded behind stonetalon (a zone most alliance hardly touch).

Feralas/Tanaris/Ungoro/Silithus require a nice hike through 1k needles and some barrens.

Its not as bad now but STV is much better for horde due to having a more central hub in Grom’Gol.

The Hillsbrad/Arathi/Hinterlands/Plaguelands is more convenient for Horde although its not awful.

Felwood/Winterspring is slightly better for horde and significantly better if the alliance player didn’t do the nelf zones which is very common.

As far as I can tell the only advantages alliance have are for Blasted Lands, Searing Gorge, and Burning Steppes really. Also Darkshore is probably the best leveling zone in the entire game for efficiency.

I’m talking specifically about starting as a human. You could go from Elwynn to Westfall then level there, but you’ll be fighting enemies above your level at some point. So it’s better to get a couple of levels in Loch Modan, then go back to Westfall. The Wrath exp reduction doesn’t really kick in until level 20. So the first 20 levels are pretty much the same as TBC. After that, you usually split time between Redridge, Duskwood, and the Wetlands.

Oh you’re right! I forgot about that… around level 14-ish or something? Not quite a good level to start running Deadmines.

All this is true. I usually skip Desolace cause I can’t stand that place. I also skip Feralas on Alliance because I don’t like going back and forth on the boat since their flight point is on an island. Luckily, with the Wrath exp increase and heirlooms, it’s easier to skip those zones.

Yeah. Assuming you’re leaving Elwynn at level 12, you might hit 14 after you’ve done the first series of quests. But even then, the quest to kill the harvester machines has you fighting mobs that are level 14-15. Which you might not be yet. I’ve done this route a lot lol.

Yeah its a lot better now with some added flight paths and the ability to just ignore some zones that you don’t like or are inconvenient.

Pretty awful though in vanilla classic to be following a speed leveling guide and hit level 42 and the guide just says “fly to Menethil, take boat to Theramore, run through the barrens, 1k needles, and all of Feralas to get to the Island. Grind Nagas for 2.5 levels.”

People love the human area for the lore and whatnot, but I’ve always hated it because of this disjointed stuff. Do a little westfall, then some loch modan, then some westfall, then some redridge, then some westfall. Darkshore is the true king for 10-20. Super straightforward and very efficient.
