I came back after dropping the game early in shadowlands and I’m having a pretty good time. I’m still in the first zone so but I’m liking what I’ve seen.
Except for Sabellian.
I hate him.
Blizzard sometimes listens.
It fascinates me the way Blizz does stuff from a psychiatry pov (I’m not a therapist, but I sometimes feel like one).
Blizz: We finally gave people the ability to move their UI around, but not the xp bars or the micromenus because reasons.
Therapist: Don’t you think that would have made more work in the future?
Blizz: What? No… pfft, we don’t use the edit mode internally so they should be thanking us that they can at all!
Therapist: I see… writes down ‘signs of malignant narcissism’
Blizz (months later): New update! You can now move the xp bars and micro menus!
Therapist:
I feel like it’s more:
Blizz for years: No reason to give anyone the ability to move things around. Everyone uses Bartender, anyway.
Blizz looking for QOL to add for break glass expac: Oh, this’ll be easy, just add this. It’ll look good. Whoops, forgot to make some of it moveable by launch. No one will notice. And if they do, we can do it in an additional update and make it look like we’re doing even more.
That reminds me of those game releases that conveniently cut stuff out of the release so they can sell them later as dlc. lol Of course it’s not that shady since we’re not technically being charged for the updates.
Yeah, either they forgot or once again they thought they knew better than we did, where we would like the XP, bag and menu bars.
It made zero sense that those items were not included in the first round of edit.
Does anyone know if this update will let you change the order of spellbar slots? I arrange mine in 3x4 blocks to mimic my mouse buttons and currently with WoW’s edit mode, they number from bottom to top with no way to reverse it, so I’m still having to use Bartender.
I hope the update addresses some of the bugs. Currently my raid frames are jacked up but I don’t raid so it’s not been a problem lol.
I keep going by this thread so I might as well write some of what I feel. I wrote more in depth on how I feel about the dracthyr so I’m not going to go deep into that.
Over all, the entrance into the isles I think was done really well, from the Horde perspective. I love the music, because it felt like an exhale of relief as you turn to see these beautiful mountains and wildlife flying around. It really had that ‘Welcome to Jurassic Park’ moment and you take your glasses off to see a real life dragon. And it makes sense, this is an island no one has seen for thousands of years.
The characters were really enjoyable, everyone felt unique and interested in the things I feel people are craving. With it being led by an expedition, it makes us immersed in the world, rather than politics. There are still politics, always will be, but it feels more humble.
I really enjoyed a large majority of NPCs have some uniqness to them, and many have things to say about what they’re doing. It did a good job at making it feel like people are there to explore together rather than claim land.
The Waking Shore is rather forgiving by making your intro feel grand enough to feel important, but not too long until you get your dragon.
I was very surprised at how much I liked dragon riding and how much it made profession gathering actually feel adventurous. I’m actually slowly working on putting together a resource of herbs for RP from it all. Professions felt confusing, but it felt sort of nice to know we were all confused… (before I knew people were cheating the system and getting ahead but not what I’m talking about her.)
Putting the rest under summary. Certainly not all my feelings but most of it.
Summary
I was pleasantly surprised at how both the centaur and the tuskarr were handled. The centaur redesigns are very good, and in a way, makes me hope that the centaur back home get a similar treatment. If there can’t be a way to find a middle ground with them and update their models. Nothing will ever be perfect, they are still two races being portrayed with non human characters based on real life depictions, but I feel the way it was done is way better than what was there previously. I was very happy to see some of the little things added to them , from everything to their dogs to the eagles and their deep respect for their ancestors. It felt right.
The Azure Span and Thaldraszus actually made me enjoy two of my least favorite flights. The Azure Span I think did a good handling with the Tuskarr’s real life inspiration. I’m not sure how many people noticed this, but when I point it out to those who maybe didn’t see any expansion on Tuskarr lore, I bring notice to the way the speak. There is a lot of new lore here, but you have to read and pay attention.
When Sindragosa suggested that Kalec go speak to the tuskarr for the knowledge on Ley lines it spoke volumes to me. Because the whole reason was because these are people who have lived in this area for a very long time and have been the ones taking care of the land, they are the ones who you should talk to.
And when asked about ley lines, it’s not that they were without knowledge, it’s just they had a different word for it, the gleamcoves. In the end, they celebrate the death of their leader who lived a good life, and they celebrate that life and Kalec was able to have it put into perspective that family and community is what should be nurtured. There could be things said here about this interaction, but I think I am pleased that never did I feel the Kalec put the tuskarr down and never did I feel the tuskarr were made to feel lesser in comparison to the dragonflight.
I have very varying opinions on dragon characters, I still find them unique and special and I’ve justified that the dracthyr are literally the only way for it to realistically work for us to have playable dragons. The dragonman was something Blizz wanted since the start, but as I thought about it, the way the dracthyr were set up is the only way that actually makes it work. Any other idea , while possible, didn’t feel right.
I won’t get into my feelings on the dracthyr, I think they have charm. But they still feel like NPCs to me and everyone is using a toy to have the look. I’m unfortunately in the park that I like the drakonid a lot more, because for me, they are more interesting to look at with how they are designed. The way they look feel more natural vs the dracthyr who are too smooth and their default look is elf human. Though, something tells me we’ll get an expansion on races after I paid attention to the eyes of the npcs and how easy that might be to apply. (But If I’m to be real when I see people use that gnoll costume and RP, it looks so natural and makes me a little sad this wasn’t the option.)
And yes this is all first impressions I spent a lot of that first week just looking at everything and seeing the details lol. I have A LOT of screen shots from that first week.
Over all, a lot of fun, a lot to do and I’m still getting handle on professions.
I don’t think it’s psychiatric so much as economic.
Blizzard didn’t change anything for a long time because there was no competition except themselves. Adding benefits and perks to attract customers is basic business, but the only real reason to do it for them was to apologize for their numerous failures. Now that there’s an MMO that’s actually doing well, they’ve got to hustle harder.
A more interesting notion is how Blizzard managed to screw up enough to whittle away their good will so much.
I’m level 67 and so far my views of the zones are
Waking shore was a solid 8/10 main campaign wise
OhnAhran plains was 4/10, I wasn’t really interested until the very end.
What little I’ve played of Azure span is 8/10 needs more Khadgar. But Sindragosa is hot so that makes up for it.
I absolutely LOVE the dragonriding and am obsessed with doing the races.
Update I’ve come to the conclusion that this expansive should have just been about the Tuskarr. Playable Tuskarr when?
Patch 10.0.5 arriving in two weeks on the 24th.
Highlights for me: Trading Post & Grey/White Transmog:
I’m gonna trade so many posts
I hope they make an easier way to grind renown.
Checking out old gray and white items in the database, starting in Vanilla and moving forward, they are now all reflecting as BoE. I’ll be pouring through this tonight to see if I can find anything else.
Good stuff.
ETA: First great hat find for anyone not a clothy. It’s now listed as “cosmetic”.
ETA: The OG Red Defias Mask also appears to be BoE.
Formal Dangui is now BoE / Cosmetic
Black Tuxedo Pants are now BoE / Cosmetic - perhaps finally getting some solid black pants for mog!
Bloodsail Items (formerly cloth) appear to be cosmetic/BOE.
Haliscan items are now cosmetic
Kind of seeing that many hats have been made cosmetic, while the items that go with them that were cloth/leather/mail/plate, remain restricted by armor type.
REJOICE!
I did the grind to exalted to get that necromancer set from Korthia for black pants, the options have been more limiting than I expected!
I can’t wait for this patch.
More glass breaking?
-
Polearms from Shadowlands and Dragonflight have been adjusted to sit lower on the player’s back when sheathed. We’ll be looking into adjusting additional polearms from previous expansions in a future update.
-
Profession requirements for many transmog-eligible pieces have been adjusted or removed entirely.
-
Most items that previously required a profession other than Engineering no longer have a requirement.
-
Engineering items have had their skill requirement reduced to 1 of their appropriate expansion.
-
Gnomish and Goblin engineering are no longer required to transmog any Engineering appearances.
As an engineer, I would love for all the goggles to be moggable by any armor type, but that may never happen. At least things are moving in the right direction.
Wow! So many tiny, easily-implemented fixes to improve quality of life! Thank goodness Shadowlands was such a disaster!
how many bad expansions in a row will it take before they give me goblin monks
