Fire kitty is real!

Just hoped onto the PTR and can now change my look of all my forms across all my specs individually, including the fire kitty. Good for those who have not been able to farm that from Firelands, but I feel for those who did farm it, especially if you got it recently.

From my understanding you still need the original weapon that gave you the look before the toy as a tmog to be able to use fire kitty form in 9.0

Unless they change from PTR to live that’s not true, my druid was only started in 8.2 can on the PTR can go fire kitty.

Although I do have Fandral’s Flamescythe, but yeh I collected that sometime during 8.3.

Thats the weapon that is required. Someone that doesn’t have that unlocked needs to try

That weapon is super easy to get and doesn’t show the old tooltip like it used to, meaning players who get it would probably just vendor it without thinking twice.

Anyway, time to start a new trial druid on the PTR to see what that looks like.

I can confirm that’s how it is working. My feral Druid did not have access to the fire cat when the PTR first launched. I found this topic and went to get the weapon in live Firelands and got it to drop on my first kill. I recopied my Feral Druid with the weapon and I now have access to the fire cat on my Feral Druid.

Note: I can see the fire cat as an option but turns me into a Night Elf cat when I attempt to use it.

Unless it is an account wide unlock, I just started a new Alliance druid class trial, ported into SW and… FIRE KITTY! I don’t think you need the staff, or it is account wide.

Once you unlock a tmog it’s account wide so any new druid will get the option in SL

If the weapon itself is required, and those of us who spent years farming the toy on many druids don’t qualify, that’s a slap in the face for sure.

Might just be a PTR bug, but I can certainly say it worked for me on a NE and Tauren druid.

Years wasted indeed, especially if you never got the toy. But the weapon is super easy to get, so at least you can head back in between now and SL and get it if for whatever reason you still didn’t get it after all that time farming the toy.

Pretty much every druid who tried getting the toy should have fire kitty at this point.

I got the toy after hundreds of runs. I shouldn’t have to farm it again, even if I can probably get it in a few months.

If I have to farm it all over again, it doesn’t matter how “easy” you think it is to force me to refarm a totally useless staff after getting that very rare toy.

Yeh but the staff is so easy to get that if you spent even a month farming the toy you would almost certainly already have the xmog from it in your collection. I had 2 drop the other week on the same boss kill, but yet no toy.

So for sure you have had multiple staffs over the years drop for you already.

Looks like after the NE druid gets in her billable couple of hours on mythic/heroic raid farming to help pay the bills I may have to hunt this down after.

I have the staff from long ago, though not the toy. I’ll redouble my efforts to raid the Firelands, just in case!

Don’t even need to really, the staff drops like candy compared to the toy.

Oh, I have the staff. It’s the toy I don’t yet have in my possession.

Definitely not the toy that gives the appearance in 9.0. I have the toy but not the staff and I can’t get the fire kitty on beta or ptr on my druid. Thought I had the staff since I ran that raid many times for the toy but guess I dont haha

Sure. So why do I have to farm it again, since they know that I’ve gotten it before?

Here. “You farmed up a rare toy that replaced the original weapon that was useless as a weapon. You vended out the weapon, because nowhere did it even say it had that effect. We know you farmed it up, because it’s in our records. Now go farm it up again, because we’re only giving this ability to people who kept that weapon all these years. Because we can make you do this and you have no choice. And it’ll keep you subscribed running firelands during the prepatch, because there will be nothing to do.”

“Oh, and wait to see what we make you refarm next time! It’s gonna be a doozy! We’ll be laughing our butts off thinking about you refarming rare stuff because we told you to!”

I can’t wait to see what kind of conditions they’re going to attach to using our legion shapeshift appearances. No doubt it will be even more restrictive and buggy than it currently is, based on how they’re handling this.

Is this character-specific, and you have to have it in your inventory on each and every druid?

You should both have it already. I deleted my Tauren and started a NE druid class trial and I could mog fire kitty. I also deleted that and started a Worgen druid and it was there. And when you collect an item as you both should know, you get it auto added to your xmog list without needing to equip it.

Most certainly not.

Plus who cares, even if it turns out you need it, have to equip it and click the on use (which no longer shows on the tool tip) just to place it on your account, it takes like 20 minutes to get in and kill the boss, so even if you do need the staff if will take you no time at all to get it.

It’s not like someone who got the chromatic sword from classic and sold it before xmog became a thing, the flamescythe is just another xmog item that is super easy to get, and for something that is probably needed for a permanent option that looks amazing, it’s well worth heading back a couple of times for the last time.
