I quit playing WOTLK Classic since Blizzard obviously doesn’t care about it, as the rampant DK bots and no sign of the long-promised race change make clear. But I figured that since I still had some subscription time paid for I could go over to the Vanilla Classic server and see if there’s anything to all the hardcore hype.
Much to my surprise, I absolutely love it. Honestly, I like it more than anything in the game since MoP pvp. That’s a complete surprise to me, since I hate leveling in WOTLK. But I realized that when death = delete is on the line and you have to jealously guard every piece of silver you get, it changes the leveling experience totally.
You look with respect and a bit of fear upon that simple cave in Elwynn Forest that you blew through in wotlk with your heirlooms, etc. More than anything, the finality of death makes your toon feel more ALIVE in a way that I never experienced before playing the game.
I think Blizzard is really lucky that the player base created this playstyle themselves and basically forced them to take notice, if the rumors of a hardcore server are true (which they seem to be). Anyway, if you’re bored with the game now, I suggest you give hardcore a try. It’s not for everyone, but you may be surprised how much you enjoy it.

Hardcore is a lot of fun. Personally I don’t really enjoy solo lvling the entire way to 60. I’m very much a dungeon grinder and wish I could grind with a group.
Almost 60 then I can join the rest and not have to play solo.
It’s funny how greens at low lvl feel really good huh. Feels better than getting epics from wrath raiding.

It doesn’t appeal to me but I appreciate and support player created/driven events and content.
Like Running of the Gnomes
As long as it doesn’t damage/spill into forever Classic Era realms or pull all the Dev man power and allow Classic Era to rot, I’m all for a Hardcore realm

Yeah but the rules imposed by players are dumb. No trading or AH usage along with dungeons only once makes for an anti-social “grind green mobs” experience.

Not sure how much you’ve actually played hardcore. 1-30 plays pretty much identically to how it does on a fresh server launch. The rules are there to prevent typical degenerate gameplay styles, it’s meant to encourage you to quest in zones your level which is what most hardcore players end up doing.
The people who talk about ‘grinding green mobs’ don’t seem to me like people who actually play much hardcore… they’re talking from their imaginations, not from experience.

I got 6 days on my sub. I was going to try HC but what I really want is a fresh vanilla server. I will come back for that.

Give it a shot before you go. What have you got to lose?
If you were talking to me. I’m a pvp’er at heart and once I see red I will go out of my way to engage and kill. Leveling becomes secondary to killing reds. =) lol

huh?
Please elaborate how you feel the need to fight non-green level mobs to feel superior lol.
It’s nothing about feeling superior, it’s just you guys repeatedly saying wrong things about what HC is like. I see pretty much 100% of players questing like normal on content that’s their level. Nobody actually does any of the dumb stuff you think they would because it’s just too long and tedious.
The fun of hardcore anyway is that it makes even one mispull turn from a boring circumstance to a high level of excitement, if you grinded from level 5 to 6 killing 600 level 1 boars you wouldn’t even have that.
Just stop making stuff up, that’s all I’m saying.

They arent. I play HC on and off when I feel like it and yes. You generally want to complete questlines and outlevel the next area before you get there. You DO spend time doing tedious things like maxing professions and grinding mobs to be stronger for the next set of quests.
Basically, yes a lot of HC players are out there killing green mobs and there is nothing wrong with that. Even if you are leveling normally its not a bad idea as green quests still give the same exp.
HC on BB DOES feel like a fresh server. HUNDREDS of L1-30s running around constantly due to the decently high death rates, which many of the rules, that so many dislike, attribute to. I log in, gather up dungeons questions and instantly find a group because there are so many people online who also need/want to run said dungeon. There is no boosting, people don’t have tens of thousands of gold that they can buy w.e. items off the AH and just skip dungeons or sweaty rush to 60. Leveling actually has a bit of excitement bc some choices can be risky and lead to death. My biggest gripe is the no grouping, I am lucky to have someone to duo with so I dont even feel the full pain of this, I think it must be horrendous for soloers. I understand they are trying to eliminate a higher level or non-HC player carrying you through harder content, but I feel like you could make other rules that dont isolate you so much. The no AH actually makes professions much more worthwhile to do while leveling, which has been fun, as on other servers I’ve just gone Engi and leveled it with no focus since it didn’t provide much while leveling. Will be interesting to see Blizzards take on the rules, which they factor in and which they dont.

Outleveling a zone by a level or two and ‘grinding green mobs’ are very different gameplay choices my guy.

Add 1 more level and we are on the same page.
Stop acting like people only go fight orange mobs and do elite quests solo. Its a game.
Now you’re just making stuff up again. I said people more or less play the same way they do on a fresh server launch. And that’s actually true. Choosing to stay in Elwynn for a few more quests or fishing for a few hours doesn’t really change that. And you being defensive doesn’t help.

Because this is dumb and inaccurate.
