Final Fantasy XIV Community is WAY too proud | Toxic Positivity

To me the whole fawning and worship of FF14 is just baffling. Any kind of criticism about that game literally gets hordes of people immediately defending it. I’ve been gaming for a long time and this is the first game community I’ve seen that can easily be defined as “toxic positive”. And before anyone says “WoW refugees”… the game has always been like this as I remember people telling me about it years ago.

They completely normalize having to sit for 2-3+ hours to login because their developers didn’t put in any effort to acquire new servers is just silly. Yet the same problem happened with New World + BF2042 + other game releases recently and the internet lost their crap.

I couldn’t even play when Shadowlands launched due to server capacity issues and I was mad and ready to refund the game.

I once made a simple criticism of not liking playing everything on one toon only and was immediately bombarded with hate even after being told the community is the nicest and most welcome of any gaming community.

I see you’re a fan of alternative facts.

I haven’t been able to log into ff since launch - early access launch - without waiting for a minimum 3 hour queue, which I’m unwilling to do.

not a single wow launch was this bad.

so much this. people unable to play for an entire week and the fanbase just… accepts it.

They did put in effort. They added a new datacenter and upgraded servers. The game just ended up being more popular than even that right now.

And right now there is a worldwide chip shortage, so it’ll be a few months for the next upgrade.

For now they’ve taken the test server down to make room in the live server. That’s all they can do for now.

The reason people defend the game is:

  • They have a good track record and consistent good content

  • Good communication

  • And people attacking the game or the devs usually do so misguided and armed with false information.

I take it you did not play wod or classic… thanks for letting us know

No one has accepted anything. The situation sucks right now. But it can’t be fixed. It’s not like WoW Classic where Blizz could add servers at will. Some of those servers that ended up low pop later and they ended up moving people around again.

New World’s issues were with the many bugs though. The game was unplayable for many. FFXIV is stable once you login to the game. If you login right now, there is barely a queue.

This isn’t really a valid excuse. The reason is simply they don’t want to spend the money because it’s cheaper to just let players suffer for a few weeks of queues and then it drops down naturally. In 2-3 months it won’t be as bad.

Also, FF14 players are the ones that come on other games forums, and do most of the harassing. lol

It’s not an excuse. It is THE reason. Have you paid attention to anything tech related? Even shopped for PC parts?

It’s not about being cheap. There’s no way they want to keep a large population from playing the game. And like I said, they already added a datacenter and upgraded servers earlier in the year. So if it was just them being cheap, that wouldn’t have happened.

But the cost of servers is easily outweighed by the number of people willing to pay to play, so that makes no sense. If you make up that kind of stuff to the community, it’s no wonder why they have comebacks to it.

Because not only is it false, it makes no logical sense.

You have to sub to WoW to post here. You aren’t being harassed at all. But definitely not by FFXIV players. You are reading posts (sometimes trolling ones) from WoW players. Some who play both games. But others just trying to get attention or reaction.

I mean they had plenty time to upgrade and get the tech long before now. You can argue that it would end up like wow with dead servers but in reality a dead server to you is heaven to another and at the very least having a bunch of low to dead pop servers which can be used in the event of a crisis is better than not having any and being in a situation where queues are over 3k and more.

That’s why they did upgrade it and added a datacenter. It just didn’t end up being enough. More people wanted to play than anticipated. This was a game that had a set amount of players for a decade. And because of WoW’s woes ended up with way more players.

Its an mmo though, theres not really a set amount of players. Playerbases of any mmo fluctuate. At the very least square should have realized that much. Always pre-plan

Its like the weather. You don’t know its gonna rain but better to have that umbrella and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Well on the long queue times, the community has just accepted it, there isn’t anything we can do but wait for parts to come in an upgrade servers and create new servers. Hopefully when the Oceanic Database opens in February/March that will alleviate some congestion.

As for saying bad/negative things. Its all in context. You cant say to a person in party “you F******* suck uninstall and don’t come back!” etc like you here in WoW. If someone isn’t doing a good job you can say “Hey tank please put your tank stance on so we don’t die” or “Hey tank its a good idea to use your AoE combo while pulling mob packs and to keep using it on 3+ targets so we can safely AoE”.

Of course if the tank refuses to put tank stance on you can kick them and you won’t suffer punishment for that because you won’t progress through that dungeon.

Its all on context and you actually get GM’s, actually human GM’s there isn’t any automatic ban/suspensions from a robot like in WoW (ie if a bunch of people spam report you).

Look at Sodapopin, he went to GM jail pretty fast and there was an actual human GM on the other line. I’ve had the pleasure dealing with 2 GM’s before and its reassuring you actually have a real person.

There was no way to predict that many. Leading up to the months before there were some more and they upgraded. It wasn’t near what it was at pre-launch.

Again, they upgraded, they added a datacenter. Which is a whole group of servers. It wasn’t enough. Because of the shortage, it’ll take a few more months before they can upgrade again.

There is no way to predict an exact amount of people for something like that. Especially since the queues weren’t that bad leading in.

It’s not like weather. You have a forecast for weather.

That’s not my point. You don’t have to predict an influx of players just have the tech already. Have a hundred servers even if over half are dead or low pop at least then you’ll be prepared for anything.

No one is gonna pay for tech they might not need. Not even Blizz does that.

Then that’s on them for not being prepared. Its always better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it.

You are making no sense. You want them to pay for something months ahead for something that might not happen, when they already added several servers and upgraded the servers they had.

Blizz found themselves in the same position. The only difference is there was not a chip shortage earlier in WoW’s first years or during Classic.

Makes perfect sense if you understand the phrase i used in the last few comments.

I’m just saying a multi billion dollar company like square can do it if a small indie like blizzard prior to activision could.

And like I said even if an event won’t likely happen its still better to be prepared in case it might.

Square having money doesn’t mean FFXIV has it. They have about 12% of Square’s total budget. And the money isn’t the issue. It’s the common sense. You don’t buy things you don’t need just in case. That sounds like an old lady that buys cans of food to hoard in her basement just in case.

They do like all other MMO companies have done. They upgrade or create new servers as they are needed. Only this time they can’t for a few more months because of the shortage. Something that didn’t happen before.
