Final fantasy 14 has solved player housing

you will soon be able to pay the gil difference to upgrade the inside of a housing unit to any size you want. there are 21600 apartments in a world with 48 worlds meaning 1036800 apartments. apartments are not subject to the lottery and since the lottery came in the overall price of a house is much more accessible with apartments costing less than half a mil which can be made with some crafts. world and data center do not matter because you can freely travel between them and it only takes a minute to do. most if not all active players will be able to max maximum sized instanced housing

and we are stuck here with 10 year old garrisons

Does FF14 still have that system where your house goes on auction if you’re inactive for a certain period?

I always disliked that and would rather instanced housing like Garrisons were that I could invite people into. Obviously just better implemented than Garrisons were.

The idea that you could take a break and lose your house because of it always put me off FF14 housing.

WoW has 5 times as many active players. (At least during expansion launches. Should be falling off soon.)

youre joking if you think all 5 million are going to actively engage in player housing

If EverQuest can do player housing, WoW has no excuse.

They may not want a house but I can practically bank on them wanting to make gold off the system. Id be completely shocked in patterns, items, materials, etc for housing was not a significant part of the system and making gold off people who want to use housing would be a huge economic boost.

So you never make a house because its a choice - sure. But if you get that pattern drop for a fancy bed from a raid that worths many gold, dont tell me you wouldn’t sell it for profit.

In WoW? Sure, but even 20% of that is capacity for them.

You’re also not factoring in the fact WoW encourages alts. So, do you design by warband, or character-specific, or both?

WoW is a far greater beast.

Instead of “WoW should do this” it should be more like, “That’s good for them, they deserve good things too!”

i dont see an issue with people not taking part in housing making gold off people that do. i have finished housing mostly as i have a large free company house and personal as well as an apartment all of which are fully furnished. most housing items i come accross i sell or give away. if recipes or crafting materials or housing items were available from multiple sources i think it would give a nudge to people to do content they have never tried or revitalize old content

Pretty sure they specified it would only apply to houses and not apartments.

I’m not sure it applies to apartments though I could be wrong.

Doesn’t really solve the housing issue but does help alleviate some of the issues at least. Going to be funny walking into a small house and it’s a mansion on the inside lol.

FFXIV only has a million players?

Yeah, I lost my house not too long ago. It sucks.

First, it’s only houses. Not apartments or rooms. Second, the shortage is with plots and the fact that apartments/rooms are pretty subpar compared to a house, even for the price. Third, if WoW adds player housing it will be like garrisons in that it will have anchors and limited customization. You’re not going to have designer bath houses and catgirl cafes.

There’s no auctions anymore. The house is demolished after 45 days and the plot is put up for lottery during the next application period. The exception is Free Company rooms, which last as long as the company exists or you are in the FC. But those are the size of apartments, will not be able to be upgraded, and will be inside of a house that you do not control.

In all honesty I wouldn’t trust WoW’s handling of player housing because for some reason any semblance of that system, like the ranch in Halfhill and garrisons, always have to be tied in with being a feature for an expansion. And once that expansion is done Blizz abandons it for a new expansion gimmick.

And on top of that, if implemented how long before the recolor s come trotting out and how much effort would go into making items race specific and not the generic SW Alliance or Orgrimmar Horde design.

Heck, at this point not having player housing is a feature that makes WoW stand out from the other MMOs.

If XIV can fix one of the many problems with their housing, wow could easily implement housing using the Light damned Garrison and phasing tech they already had and abandoned on Draenor.

Light knows if they ever do implement it, they’ll probably rebuild it from the ground up and boast how it took 9 years.

yup. it’s a shame. i would’ve killed for player-housing like wildstar had… but nope. blizz decided putting out watered-down expansion-specific content was more important.

remember artifact power? azerite-power (which they renamed artifact power now LOL), warfronts? island expeditions? torghast? whatever it was dragonflight had?

it’s a shame blizz is so afraid to use the multi-million/billion dollars they get from us to actually put evergreen stuff like playerhousing in the game. last time i checked, the last evergreen thing they put in was either pet-battles, or follower dungeons (and i’m not even sure that counts. it’s just dungeons with bots).
shame blizzard. shame.

I’m sure Blizzard would be happy to update and even move the garrison.

The problem is the “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GARRISONS AREN’T HOUSING” people.

They’re the ones blocking the rest of us from having updated housing.

I love my garrison. I use it all the time. It’s good enough and that’s okay. You got a pet battle person, an inn, etc. The only thing I could honestly say I wish it had more than it does now is update with each expansion. Add new features, update the npcs and they’re goods to match the newest items and so on. Player housing is a massive Gil sink in ffxiv and I’m sure if wow had it it would cost 500mil for the biggest house. No thank you.

EverQuest 2 has had the best housing since 2009.
