FF14 Is very sweet with new players and on wow you have most rude people on the planet !

  • WOW : You get kicked for being new. (dungeon)
  • FF14 : they actually wait for you to completly Watch the cinematic and read and live, they’re very patient.

The FF14 community are like housewives. Their kindness is veneer, the second you say anything bad about their precious game and they will ostracize you…

Also, lol FF14 can’t even get their payment system working so there’s that.

Don’t know what part of the WoW community you deal with, but you will get ripped to shreads if you talk about how lackluster DF has been and how TWW doesn’t look any better

FF14: Club Dancing RP and ERP and barely anyone does PvE. Also can’t talk because GM ban people “forever” if you get suspended 3 times.

WoW: Just do whatever, people actually play the game and pvp queue still don’t take 4 hours. People get spanked by the GMs and chill off a bit and all is cool.

I think it’s not really a FFXIV thing as much as it’s just an internet thing.

Try saying something negative about Classic WoW to the group of players who think it’s greatest thing ever.

Retail has more negativity about it, but try saying something like leveling should be harder and the community here will rip you to shreds.

With FFXIV I didn’t like how single-player focused the story felt for a MMO other than the odd dungeon run. I tried to group up with my friend but the game constantly forced me to drop group and solo quests.

Naturally I was told that I “must just not like stories in games”.

People say bad things about wow all the time and often we agree among each other. Doing the same on FFXIV, you’re sent to the gank plank.

Truth to live by

Toxic negativity is humanity’s natural state of being through. Feedback tends to be negative for this reason for most things afaik.

Toxic positivity is a cult. It’s also unproductive. I guess it makes people feel safe and welcome though.

When I played FFXIV I saw plenty of people saying bad things about certain aspects of the game without getting ripped apart.

My point is that every game has things that are popular to criticize and things that will get you ripped apart to criticize.

WoW may have more negativity about it, especially modern WoW, but again: Try saying that leveling is too easy and see how well that thread goes over.

People have been attacking me for years for saying LFR should be deleted lol.

It definitely should be. Normal is only just a smidge more difficult, they could easily delete LFR and just leave it at Normal, Heroic, and Mythic

LOL dude, this community is far more toxic and definitely rips you to shreds for negative AND positive posts about WoW…

Things I care less about than the community of a game I don’t play:

Oh, it’s empty

Simple. Fanboys are hypocritical.

It honestly warms my heart to see people realize this is a concept that exists here.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

no such thing, just because you think you are justified in treating your fellow player like a piece of trash and a detriment to your enjoyment doesnt mean that is how it should be.

what I just typed is probably the OPs idea of “harsh pushback” as well.

I think it’s more their saying you must not like story-driven games where the main point is the story. You can like a games story just fine and still prefer the more action group-based content.

Wow has a story rich in lore for example, but the point of the game tends to be more on the social aspect of endgame progression.

FF is more of an interactive story with some elements of group content. You already said you were annoyed by the solo story mode so I’m guessing they were referring to that as why ff might just not be the game for you.

Eh, I still find the FFXIV community much more welcoming than WoW’s. At least I still get a friendly hello and a degree of communications and coordination out of random groups for queued content.

That being said, the community is actually open to criticism that is presented in a rational way. Applying a carpet label to something being bad without explaining why is very much frowned upon… and considering the game spends a LOT of time explaining its own lore and internal mechanics in the many cutscenes throughout the game (the “Scions”, the group of NPCs that are effectively your JRPG party, are predominantly nerdy scholars), they more or less set that as an expectation. If you’re honest about not liking something, they’re okay with admitting that it’s not for you.

I mean, it goes to show that FFXIV doesn’t really have a tank shortage. For the larger raids, it’s often DPS slots which need to be filled. Healers are less common, but doesn’t feel anywhere near as drastic.

As such, I do find the FFXIV community is rather intolerant of behaviour you see in WoW.
Doubly so if you consider the behaviour on the (WoW) forums.

It probably has something to do with a significant chunk of the FFXIV playerbase being former (or still current) WoW players who have grown to dislike this particular aspect of the WoW community, and they are quick to jump on these behavious because they recognize them. For a broadly nicer community overall, it still has some collective triggers… and how some WoW players act is one of them.

There’s some automated invites into the system, at least now. I know some “returner” (flower) characters I have got an invitation to NN… and I think new characters get it by default as well.

That being said, the quality of NN varies from server to server; some are definitely better than others. I suspect the “worst” ones are on the data centers more focused on progression content, while the RP-focused ones (Crystal) are generally tame. Or maybe that’s just backwater servers being more friendly in general, at least when the bubble is semi-consistent.

It’s also the only public chat channel in the whole game, the rest being invitation-only… so you don’t really know what you’re going to get.
