Filthling not dropping

Edit: TLDR - Filthling nerf?

Filthling pet from the Half-Empty Food Container has about a 1:500 drop rate from quivering filth (the baby filths turn spawn as big ones 1 in 40 times and the big ones drop the pet 1 in 11 or so), but since the prepatch the pet hasn’t dropped for anyone that I’ve talked to. I personally just finished up 150,000 kills with no loot, so I can say with 95% confidence that the drop rate has been reduced to at least 1 in 50k. That’s weird.

The pet was always buggy. Sometimes it would loot normally, other times we’d have to need/greed for it, and other times it would personal loot directly into your bags. So if this is just a temporary glitch, that’s my guess. Can we get confirmation please of if this was intended and the pet has been removed or had its drop rate reduced?

The slimes in Swamp of Sorrows are no longer dropping Oozing Bags either, which means no more Disgusting Oozlings.

Bags from Legion Boons, as well.

Has Blizzard responded to this or is there any update on this? Just asking cause I have farmed so many of them and got nothing

I have heard on the rumor mill that drop rates are different when you turn on party sync with someone questing in that expansion, but that’s all I’ve heard.

I have submitted three tickets about the lack of Filthling pet. I get the base line of they can not discuss drop rates of items and to check the forums and wowhead for information. Clearly they are not even reading my ticket since I reference both in it. I’ve been helping a friend who does not own this pet try to obtain it and we are over 45K kills with no sign. I have tried it with chromie time and party sync with no luck. I do not think blizzard understands there is a problem with the loot table and are just giving a brush off on the issue since it does not rank high enough of a problem for them.

They are reading your ticket. It is just something that a GM cannot do which is give game hints about drop rates or anything of that nature if they wish to retain their job. If it isn’t dropping correctly, then only a bug report would be needed to get it in front of the people who deal with such things, and the in-game GM staff are not those people.

Although I do not know how many I have killed, I can say that I have looted nearly 48k quivering filth now with no drop. To get a clearer picture of how many I have killed though I will say I only AOE loot the non-elites by looting the elites when I kill one of them. Meaning a lot of them de-spawn before getting looted. For those of you who may not know this pet drops only from the elites. I have submitted two tickets knowing that this should have been a shorter grind compared to most after reading Wowhead posts. The GM’s didn’t offer any sort of help whatsoever or any acknowledgement that something was wrong. In fact one of them even quoted the drop rates on wowhead without doing the math to convert it down and seeing that 1 in 205 in not rare for a world drop also possibly not knowing it was counting the non elites as well. Point being they are of no help. A grind that most have reported to finish in an hour has now cost me over 50 hours game time and I know I should move on knowing that Blizzard and the GMs don’t care about our time but I am stubborn and cannot. Another thing of note would be that on 2 occasions when I was looting their were holes in the loot box. For example, if you have three things in your loot box and you pick up the middle one that is what the loot box looked like when I opened it on both of those occasions. I think that could be weird timing with something else de-spawning that had loot on it, or it could be a problem with me seeing the drop I have been looking for this whole time. If that is the case I would have never noticed on any loot window that had less than a whole stack of 20 ‘filth-encrusted tooth’ (the common drop from these mobs). It was that 3rd item with the hole for a 2nd item that caught my attention both times.

This is the response to my ticket. They don’t even care to look into the item let alone try to help. This felt like a huge insult and further disrespect for my time. Something I mentioned in my ticket but is not on this thread is that this drop was bugged when Isle of Thunder was launched. Perhaps this is that same bug resurfaced after whatever they did to handle the squishes and scaling. I hope you have fun reading this terrible response, I however did not. (I had to delete the links)

Greetings! Brandon, Thank you for contacting Blizzard Entertainment! This is Game Master Triioraei you can call me Raei. We receive your ticket that you are looking for Half- Empty Food Container. No worries I will look on to this for you I really know how it feels when you didn’t get the item that you want. I have already check it on my end and congratulations for completing some quest, however for the items that is coming from the quest is randomize and it was generated by the system that is why sometimes we couldn’t get the items that we want and if you like you can play more quest so that there would would be more rewards and items to be received. But if you think you’re having a trouble in bugs you can report it using this link : If you have other concern feel free to contact us again! For future reference : Thank you for taking the time to read my response, and again, thank you for your patience with the wait tonight. Take care and be safe in your travels! <3

Obviously they did not look into it at all since it doesn’t drop from a quest…

I am so ashamed that I play a game where I can spend 100 hours trying to grind something and the company thinks it is ok to allow me to do that with 0% chance of reward. Every time I see a hotfix, I think maybe they stealthed it in and didn’t put it on the list because it is not shadowlands or because it would mean they had to admit to breaking old drops. So here I am wasting more time even though deep down I know their greed will outweigh their desire to fix this. Congrats on fixing the shoulder clipping while some people are wasting hundreds of hours on nothing.

Tooltip on Wowhead reads " Requires level 1 to 0 (57)" for Half-Empty Food Container. Could be where your problem is. And mine.

Took a level 1, turned off XP and got hem summoned out there to see if they could loot it. Could not loot any of the kills. Blizz makes sure they can STOP you from doing things…

i’m seeing it as: Requires level 1 to 60
this only changes if you play with the slider

what level are the character/s you’re farming with?
chromie time or regular time line?

Oh you are right, it said 1 to 60 when I clicked on your link and changed to 1 to 0 as soon as I clicked on the slider. I am on this level 55 toon doing it. Why this would need a level requirement any way is weird to me. No chromie.

it may have a minimum level requirement, due to the original level of the monsters in the zone

55 should be high enough to loot it

i’m wondering if it’s worth trying a lower level character to see if the results change?

… i don’t know if i’ve got any in the “original” level range to test it out.
i think old level 90 = 35

I don’t want to be trying out all this weird stuff. I want them to take the 5 minutes to copy/paste the way it used to be. They have had 6 months to do it.

Maybe they tried to fix it and gave up. It never really worked right because this is the only pet that drops from something that is a rare spawn of itself. Like, the big version is the same name and ID as the little one but is the only one that rewards the pet. Maybe they tried to make the big version a different ID but it broke it even more. Idk how hard of a fix it would be but couldn’t be that bad, right?
