I think sometimes it’s good to look at it from the other side, too. Back during OG TBC, I played a warlock and used Omen Threat Meter (I think it was?) that would amplify the sounds of my Shadow Bolt hitting the target at would near pulling threat.
I would still often keep casting, and pull threat with a grin as long as I knew the mob I was pulling threat on would die before it reached me. It was a pretty fun additional aspect of the game, at the time. I was still pretty new to WoW.
Anyway, of course context is important, and there are potentially differences between how threat “should” feel at max-level in a raid on a boss versus on mobs in a dungeon, and maybe that depends on class, etc. I think the question of what is the right balance, and where do we draw the line is a good one, and that threat is an interesting mechanic, that ultimately does make the game a little more fun.
