How does it feel to lose the top spot due to incompetent developers releasing two terrible expansions in a row. I would say 4 in a row but Legion was great in the end. Will they learn their lesson and reclaim the top spot? You also needed to have Classic to not get completely destroyed and you STILL haven’t gotten the hint many of your new ideas are terrible.
I have not tried FFXIV but I have heard of it, is the game expensive? Also do you have to do any sort of quest or can you jump right into the dungeons? I have seen FFXIV logs and it seems balanced, is that true or do you have to play the meta there?
Not particularly. It’s a subscription game like WoW, but they price current expansions at $40US and bundle previous ones in. They actually very recently made the entirety of the base game and first expansion playable as a free/trial content block. You can pay a bit less per month if you only want one character slot per server, which outside of being an auction gremlin is more than enough, as you can play every class on one character.
Definitely a lot of questing/story to do. It’s a very storyline-based game.
The meta in endgame is playing well and being the role a group needs, honestly. Aside from usually just trying to avoid duplicates, some people have preferences, but most everything is close enough in performance to not actually matter.
King of which chart?
MMO Population still has WoW as number 1 as the most active mmo and oddly Classic at number 4 after Old School RuneScape.
(And honestly there a few titles on their list that look pretty interesting even if they’re not in the top three or ten.)
I don’t care.
Clearly the Miqo’te (Cat people) propelled FFXIV to #1.
It sure as hell wasn’t the endgame content.
OP posts on the WoW forums with a maxed level toon with a title claiming a subpar game is “king” and doesn’t provide any source.
Give me a moment while I wait for my eyes to roll back to the front.
Yo, OSRS is at #3 ahead of FF14?
Lets go Runescape! Heck yeah!
Also, I am shocked to see Destiny 2 at #2, I genuenely wasn’t aware that people actually played that game.
feels like when rome fell and some random countries and cultures rose to prominence, unsatisfying and feeling like i have to wait for things to get better
anime games are not an option
FF14 is the new king? lol they barely have any challenging contents. It’s good if you want to dress like cat girls.
OP will be back in 3 months to tell us New World is the new king.
yeah so this disgusts me
About me not caring about Destiny 2 or Destiny 2 being #2?
For the first one, Destiny 2 was a game that feels like it was explicitly designed from the ground up for me to hate. Like the developers looked at my taste in games and was like “Alright, so lets do the opposite then.”
destiny disgusts me
How do you know if someone plays FF14?
Oh don’t worry, they’ll tell you.
Destiny 2 and Apex Legends really drove home how important the platforms are. Like those games were doing okay on Battle.net or Origin, but when they switched to Steam they went absolutely gangbusters.
D2 has basically gone from strength to strength since it left battle.net.
This is not what the general discussion section is for there is an off topic section for stuff like this and you should probably move the thread to there before blizzard removes it
You will see many other threads talking about this game also in the that section
The whole list is “Didn’t expect that”
As to the OP itself:
Speaking as a rabid fan of FFXIV actively attempting to poach my friends from WoW, it’s not. (Not yet, and may not be anytime soon barring a major mishap with WoW’s development). And that’s fine.
I don’t play FFXIV to play a game with a higher sub count, and I’d rather not have it become the target of people thinking that’s a valid reason to play it. It’s a great game with its own merits (and shortcomings), but it is still an MMO at its core.
People will meme about FFXIV all day and night here (because it’s a WoW forum, so not sure why you posted this), but beating WoW in sub count is not something I would ever consider a goal I want FFXIV to focus on.
(TLDR: People should play WoW or FFXIV or any other MMO because it delivers what they want in a game, not because of sub count.)
Because the chart shows total players, as in all accounts ever made in the history of this game, and the charts are all wrong because FF themselves announced not long ago they surpassed 100M total accounts ever made.
Anyone who plays WoW will know also that 113M total is way off the mark, you could add an extra zero in there and still not be close to how many accounts this game has had over 17 years.
Active is also a ? as no one but the company themselves knows how many active players there are, especially with WoW when they report MAU instead of subs and bundle everything in as one.
Take WoW as a good example, you have tokens that can be used to pay for game time, tokens that are brought with $$$ that don’t actually count as a sub. You could have one guy buying 2 million tokens a month and be the only person who pays for a sub, if Blizzard reported there was one sub it would look terrible from a PR perspective and other games may be the same where you can play without paying, I don’t know.
But don’t take the word of some random website about active players, for total players the longer the game goes on for the more accounts there are, that we know and that does not show how good the game is.
