The game had the same obnoxious playerbase back in ARR.
A single player RPG with incredibly stale and boring grinding outside of dungeon content.
Eh. Equally stale and boring grinding but with no actual pay-off. FFXIV > Vanilla WoW.
I enjoyed pre ARR and had every job including crafters maxed in Heavensward. Tried the game again about a year ago and was told if you don’t pull wall to wall you are griefing the group. Instantly quit after hearing that.
The story (MSQ) is infinitely better than WoW though.
This post is better suited in the off-topic section of the forums.

no it’s just another old mmo washed up only surviving cause the game industry sucks and bringing new and amazing stuff seems to be to hard. the boredom seems to come quick in any mmo nowadays cause there’s just nothing great coming remember when everquest came or wow ya you get none of that anymore remember all the excitement lol. people only still play wow and final fantasy cause mmo market in general is trash and can’t bring nothing new to even keep people interested long this goes for wow or final fantasy. keep running from game to game cause guess what yhe mmo market just sucks and there’s no one to invent the next great thing as others did before.
And most of them have been ban for their toxic behavioura and have crawl back to wow saying how bad the game was.
Dentists hate him, click here to find out their one neat trick.
This is correct. However what is also correct and is FF14s saving grace is that you won’t see any of the same developer behaviour there. And that, I believe, is the bigger deal.
No community is without toxic players, and FF14 is not exempt of this fact. But the developers still clearly care for their game and put in a lot of effort to craft their game to be good and fun for players, and that in turn helps reduce toxicity on the basis that the game is actually good.
They even have said that they’re happy for their players to just sub for a month, play the content they like, then unsub till the next content drop. Meanwhile Blizzard fills its game with weekly chores to fulfill their metric standards and keep players in the grind for as long as possible. Not saying FF14 doesn’t have anything like that, they do have grinds, but you’d never catch Blizzard saying its ok to unsub until the next patch.
That said FF14 clearly isn’t for everyone. If someone doesn’t like it, that is perfectly fine! Just a shame the first 50 levels are the slowest and most unrepresentative of the final product, but that’s very much so an FF14 problem.
Yep, I used to happily tank in FFXIV. It was enjoyable, chill, casual, strangers would chat in group then it just turned into WoW. No talking, go as fast as you can, DPS pulling everything. At first I thought it was just my server. So I server hopped around and found the same thing. The player-base has changed.
to true the next great thing needs to be created not copy paste from each one lol. people are tired of the current mmo market.
You would think that…but since GD is pretty much unmoderated, these threads advertising other games have become pretty common
I’m confused - are you saying that’s a lot of new and unique content?
Their playable races are still garbage so no.
I gotta say . . .I’m considering it. And I am not a FF fan at all. But WoW has so gone off the rails. Despite playing since before the original BC, I think I need to move to another MMO.
I’m sure the diehards will keep playing no matter what Blizzard does.
But it’s kind of frustrating to see the Pokemon franchise actually innovating and doing interesting things in upcoming releases and simple games like “Animal Crossing” and “Stardew Valley” pumping out new content for no extra cost. Sure those games are not like WoW, but why do they treat their players so much better than Blizzard does? At some point you start to wonder what’s going on. Why is Blizzard so slow and so unresponsive to players? Why are they completely unable to make content that isn’t broken in some way?
I think I’ll give FFIV a go. I’m not going to play through BC again and retail WoW won’t be good until they bring in a new leadership team, which may never happen.
Try the free- trial. If it grabs you it grabs you. If not…just Google best mmos and try them. If they have free trials.
I will say I had some fun running around and doing quests but it didn’t grab me to warrant paying another game subscription.
It does get better. I realize this is a small comfort, but I fully acknowledge that the newbie experience is complete and utter trash. I completely understand when people don’t want to muddle through.
Next year? There already was one released last year. It was called Shadowlands. Maybe you heard of it.
I just can’t. I’ve tried it and it looks and feels like an anime game targeted at pre-teens.
That is true and I cant wait for Classic TBC!
Yes there is a grind, but its farm more rewarding than the grinding of Modern WoW.
