How would you know the sub numbers when Blizz won’t even tell you how many people are subbed?
D’you think that maybe they are hiding that for a reason and the time period in which they decided to stop displaying the numbers (IE, WoD) was a pretty good indication of why they hide such numbers now?

Pretty sure that information is out there somewhere.
But WoW’s is not, because they are actively hiding it.
For Clarification: I don’t give a rat’s behind what the sub numbers is, to be honest. I care more about player sentiment, and how players generally view the game. I hear nothing but complaints from most WoW players I interact with and threads on GD here, while it’s the stark opposite over in XIV.
That leads me to believe that a lot of die-hard WoW fans either have Stockholm Syndrome or Investor’s Fallacy.
And you were accusing me of denial …

No idea … I am not the one saying that FF14 has more numbers . Even looking at the website people point to ( which I don’t believe ) , WoW still has double the no of subs as FF14.

People are playing, not watching, and the game itself makes forums useless, as you dont need second party websites to know what to do in the quests.

In a lot of these discussions, it goes like this:
FFXIV Players: “Hey, WoW people, you know all the junk that you hate about WoW? XIV does a lot of stuff WoW does, but without all the junk you claim to hate.”
WoW Players: "Pfft, XIV sucks, it… (insert a lot of lies and untruths, misconceptions here)
FFXIV Players: “WTF? That’s not even right, have you even tried it before you bash it?”
And the back and forth goes from there.
Hell, a lot of XIV players also play, or played, WoW. The ones who don’t play WoW anymore, wish WoW was better, like it was back in Wrath or MoP.

I mean look at Azmon. The dude refused to go near FF14. Talked so badly about the game for years. Tried it for 5mins and there he went.

You can just tell the Night&Day difference, too. He plays WoW and he’s always grumbling, frowning, and hating stuff, going on rants, etc.
He goes into XIV, and he’s all smiles and hype and “LET’S GO!” …
And… now WoW players are trashing him left and right. Calling him all kinds of bad names, etc, because of some sentiment that he’s a “traitor” now. /eyeroll
And some WoW players, and even a WoW dev, got in on it too, and made characters on XIV purely to block his ability to play the game (until they got banned).
It’s just… madness.
