Man, what kind of life do you live to have to care so much about how well another game is doing and spend so much time out of your life posting statistics just to try and validate your view point?
I know I have argued pointlessly for FFXIV in these forums, but you’re taking obsession to a whole different level, my dude.

Out of that curiosity, why are you looking at Steam charts when most of the playerbase doesn’t use Steam to access the game?
Actually, they are doing that. There are limitations based on literal availability of supplies, but at least there is a plan and they regularly communicate that openly to the playerbase.

Whelp, looks like the drop is starting due to the positive press on 9.1.5?
-6.50% drop in population in one week (same population gain as in August) and average daily player count that is about to be lower than in July. At this rate it’ll be a -20% drop by the end of the month.
Are you really using Steam for data when it’s an absurdly small % of the playerbase that actually logs in that way? Most players use the FFXIV launcher itself. The copium is awesome here!

And appearantly it rose again anyway
Yes, FFXIV won’t be for everyone, but at this point the word is spread far and wide through so many content creators, and it most certainly will stick with a lot of people.

Yes because everyone enjoys a Anime goldshire of the video game version of las vegas.
Another day another -1% drop. Average player count is now below July.
And yet, the servers still have no ability for character creation because they’re full (which is based on people actively logged in at any given point in time, not the overall number of characters or accounts). Because, yep, very few people use Steam in the first place

I honestly don’t get what the purpose here is.
FFXIV was doing perfectly fine on its own for around 9 years and suddenly had a recent surge in interest that’s now waning due to many folks waiting until the next expansion. That’s normal. FFXIV is experiencing the same ebbs and flows WoW faced during multiple periods in the run up to expansions.
That you’re constantly posting metrics of, “Oh, here’s an arbitrarily small percentage of population decreases” has no point behind it other than the validation of your own skewed, biased observations.

I believe it a “striking back” response, because the WoW forums was flooded with “FFXIV is a much better game!” not so long ago.
It is, however, a weird way to shed bad light on FFXIV, especially using steam metrics. Not only because FFXIV is not a steam-only game, I for one am not respresented by Steam as I purchased the back through Square Enix’s own website, which I suspect the vast majority also have done. But also because the steam metrics still shows the game in a rather favoable light. Before July, the game was stable around 33k players, it increased over time. July hit and we peaked at double that.
Following the ‘new game’ rose-tinted goggles, the game now remains stable at about 44k players a day, and that is only those who play the game through steam. It have had a significant increase, all things considered.
People who also play the game on a daily basis, can tell that it is extremely different. Many worlds, even those were it is unusual, are still locked for new character creations, which means that it has a lot of player activity on a daily basis… and as mentioned, those are the ones usually not locked. The cities are even more lively than they were before, the zones overall are far more lively.
Overall, it have actually been quite lovely, especially to see so many new sprouts. And as someone who have played the game for about a year now, it is nice to see sprouts who are quick learners likely because they came from WoW and are familiar with MMORPG mechanics.
It has been an overall joy and I love it.

Down -8.77% now. It’s free falling pretty hard now.
Wombo-combo of New World + 9.1.5 is going to hit them pretty hard, but will probably recover by expansion launch.
edit: Today it’s -10.30%.

This right here.
Numbers are bogus unless you’re pulling an aggregate with the main launcher and the Steam launcher pulled together.
The main launcher, purchased directly through the Square-Enix website, far eclipses logins through Steam–even though I’m one of the people who log in through Steam.
But you don’t care, OP. You just seem to be posting statistics in some form of validation for yourself and ignoring everything else. This crusade that you seem to be on to prove that “FFXIV is a crap game, lol” is such a waste of time and effort.

Down -12% today… that’s -4% in 3 days. At this rate it’ll be down almost -30% by the end of the month basically erasing most of the July streamer gains.
Let me ask you a question: Have you been outside recently?

I am a little afraid of the Endwalker launch. Endwalker have appearantly seen 170% more preorders than Shadowbringers, that is going to be a very, very scary and server breaking launch.

Also don’t discount that it’s not the middle of summer and school has started back which means kids, college students, and teachers all went back to work. We’ve seen a dip in guild activity in TBC for the same reason.

I’m not concerned on the server-breaking part, just the length of the login queues. Square servers are already at login capacity; they intentionally limit it to prevent the servers from “breaking” altogether. It’ll just take quite awhile to get in most likely.
Bah.
I have already sat through my 1000+ ques a couple of time now.
I’ll survive that.
