I’m thinking of maining a nelf druid in classic and was wondering how they compare to rogues dps. I mained a rogue in vanilla but always liked the idea behind druids.
It doesn’t, don’t go with druid if you want to dps.
You will be healing in raids if you want to be taken seriouosly. If the helm trick works you can do sub par dps but we are unsure if it had a ICD.
Basically, a level 40 druid only helm would grant you energy every time you shifted into cat form so people could just spam shift until they oom to bump up dps. You won’t be able to bleed the boss due to debuff limits so you will just be using FB and shred or claw. I don’t actually know how the power shifting worked on feral. I just know that with the helm on private servers they could be the top of the meme specs in terms of DPS.
You’ll have to work really really hard to match the average rogue in raid DPS. Feral is much more valuable as a tank in PvE and the only true alternative to warrior tanks.
In PvP all druid talent trees have highly viable specs.
Comparing to rogue’s dps?
That’s not a good idea. If you want to top DPS charts then rogue is far superior being a pure.
Can it DPS? If the helm trick mentioned earlier here is liable then yes. But as someone said you have to work a LOT for it. You’ll get less raid position competition and should be willing to assist if needed for Bres and Innervate. But you will not be competing with rogues putting in as much work as you on DPS charts.
You’re going to be spending all your time farming manual crowd pummelers just to finish at the bottom of the pack in dps.
You’re also going to be in the same boat as hunters gear wise. Unless something was absolutely, inarguably, designed for your class, people are going to throw a fit every time you take it over a rogue or dps warrior.
The primary draw of a feral druid is that they can easily shift to bear and tank at the drop of a hat, or put on healer gear and gimp heals if the fight is particularly heal heavy. That versatility is the primary thing that druids bring to a raid.
On the other hand, a raid of 40 hunters killed rag so… just play what you want, just be sure that whatever guild you’re joining understands your intentions.
Hard to guess but on Pservers they were pretty good pre raid, givin they are pretty geared.
Hahahahaaha YESSSS
Depends what you want.
I’d say their dps is good in PvP/wPvP and dungeons. You might need to go the extra mile in raids but its all on you.
Druids really do shine in the fact that they are a hybrid and you need to play with that in mind. The druid playstyle, for me atleast, is great when you take advantage of all you have. Popping put of cat form half way through the boss because the healers oom, throwing hots on the tank and yourself before switching into bear to off tank the added mobs someone just pulled, being able to entangle roots enemy players and seperate them and take them down 1 by 1 utilizing every form you have and etc.
You can do it… You won’t beat the best geared rogues in your raid but you can reach middle of the pack dps fairly easily…
Feral Druids BiS are much easier to obtain.
The raid where you start to fall behind is Nax and thats due to lack of a feral set.
This is what you need to do,
Get pre-Raid BiS…
Get Wolfshead helm and learn to powershift
Farm crowd pummelers from Gnomeregan
You are set… and you’ll make rogues feel bad for beating them…
For sure not going to beat rogues but you can 100% have a viable feral spot on horde. Get bwl and AQ gear and you’ll actually be able to tank a lot of bosses and dps at a pretty good level that would justify a spot.
This, consider Bear tanking if you want to raid as a Feral Druid.
Try hards can do 80-85% of an average rogues damage in pve.
Most guilds will want you resto. (most being 90%)
In PVP you do not have the control of a rogue, or the burst dps.
You really have to cat, bear, caster, kite, heal, all of it, but you can be very hard to kill and wear people down. PVP is very fun with Feral/resto.
Its a total uphill climb that few will master well enough to make.
Rogues, warriors, locks, and mages were the top dogs for DPS.
Ferals were probably below average unless you were geared to the teeth. And then you might barely out DPS a rogue in blues.
Doesn’t matter though, if you play druid you’re gonna be asked to heal, just like paladins.
If you have a lot of free time then yes. You will live in gnomergan farming a level 30 mace that is your best in slot item everyday all day just to compete then yes it is damn good dps.
If you don’t have that time then I wouldn’t even bother trying to play feral. Sorry

“Heal me bruh”…Sadly that’s what your lot will be if you want to raid. Or your doing farm night on old tier for giggles or alt runs.
You’ll spend most of your play time farming MCP in gnomer. It’s not so much a skill thing, it’s having bags full of those.
You shouldn’t play a druid with the expectations of being just a dps.
However
Druids outside of heals aren’t picked up because of superior dps or superior tanking but because they can swap and fill in roles like no other class can. You should look into the Heart of the Wild spec, in which you can tank/heal/dps all together.
Ehh, that’s only true on fights that require movement and have downtime. Fights like Broodlord/3 drakes in BWL/KT, where movement is minimal, can have druids at the top of the charts if they make use of powershifting.
If you are looking at topping the charts, you will have to work twice as hard as other classes. Your BiS item for your headpiece will be a level 28 helmet and one of the best weapong (if not the best) is a blue mace level 30 (I am not sure) from Gnomeregan with a limited “on use” ability. But you can farm this mace over and over.
Honestly, through the first raids, you can be top 10 once you have mastered powershifting.
In PvP, druids are actually extremely good and valuable in a team.
So if you are willing to do some work, and perfect your gameplay, by all means go druid because it is a really fun class to play.
