Wanting to make a tank…and was thinking I’d go Tauren Druid…As I like the thought of one talent set for tanking and dpsing for questing.
I hear bear tanks are very durable in TBC and can armour cap?.
Pros and cons please, and do they get flying at 68?
They get flying for free at 68 assuming you got epic land trained which is easy form leveling gold.
You also get epic flying at a Discount by not needing to buy the mount only the training but need to complete a easy questline.
You can hit the armor hard cap and quite early late t5 its possible. We hit it first out of the tanks and than can swap stats to other stats. This is also what makes us shine in t6 as we go in armor caped and than can focus on dps stats or greater avoidance to the point we start be be used as a main tank. As a note i’m at 21k in preraid bis gear armor hard cap is around 34k thou you don’t want to go quite that high norm between 28-32k is the range you sit at making a soft cap to leave room for procs like inspiration to have value and not be wasted making the stats more valuable elsewhere. When going for these lesser numbers you in fact it the armor soft caps early t5.
Pros.
Only need a small amount of defense gear to hit defense cap unlike other tanks about 1/4 as much.
Resilence is also useable in place of defense gear and in fact makes pvp gear equal to pve gear in many spots if not better. As such if you don’t mind a bit of pvp druids are a great pick as one gear set works for both while even without pvp your fine.
Highest dps tank.
Highest snap agro up to three targets of all tanks.
Highest ehp of all tanks.
Simple to play
Able to offheal and dps in bear gear
In effect adds one additional healer to the raid via extended a healers mana bar by one full mana bar every 6 min via innervate. While this dose not add a healer durring high damage phases these are rare in tbc with healers more being about mana efficiency over the fight so a extra mana bar is massive.

Highest armor of the tanks
No mit cds (enrage regen you would never use in a raid fight) this is a pro and a con as makes our hp bar vary predictable and as such easy for the healers to maximize mana use.
Gives 5 percent crit to all physical dps in the group and heal on crit making you a strong dps increase that more than makes up the dps lost of having you in that raid slot vs another bm hunter. Best party enh sham feral 3x bm hunter that not only gives your raid team a extra offtank but the group has higher total dps than using 4 bm hunters plus a enh sham while giving the healer extra mana. Esp so when using the best idol when not tanking in raid that raises that 5 percent crit to 8 percent to the party.
Cons
Highest average damage taken over a fight of the tanks so takes the most mana to heal this is counterwd by innervate giving healer mana and in fact makes you more mana effective to heal in many cases esp when used as an offtank.
Unable to get uncrushable making some fights impossible to main tank as such you will be a offtank in most cases but this is not a major con as this is what you want as let’s you use your tools to there max via kitty form healing and other tools.
Can’t use a shield this makes you worthless as a tank on keal in the eye as can’t use the tank lego.
Worst threat on mob numbers of 4 or greater this makes Cc to reduce pack size to 3 or constant tab targeting needed in 5 mans and if group is not smart with agro and following kill orders will make your life a pain.
For large aoe pulls 5 plus requires pre casting to the pull vs just going in if you want to hold agro.
Leather armor so shares gear with one of the most popular classes hunters as well as enh sham rogue and even at times warriors. Vs plate tanks that hardly share gear with others save for trinkets rings and wep esp so pally tanks that have many items that are exclusive to them.
That more of less sums up the pros and cons.
