We really need blizzard to see these posts and I will continue to make new ones and bump them to the top at least once a day.
Feral Tanking has a few issues…
-Lack of snap threat ability like other tanks have due to us having to take lacerate for decent TPS over the length of a fight.
-Mangle in TBC
-Earth Shock
-Shield Slam
-Judgement
This can be fixed super easy by a few different options:
-Combine lacerate and mangle to same rune
-Move lacerate rune to legs
-Make a new ability for next phase to fill this gap for bear (I haven’t seen a bear form bite attack yet)
Swipe does not scale with anything, it does flat damage at a rage cost of 15 making it completely useless.
This can also be fixed a couple ways.
-Allow swipe to scale with AP like in TBC+
-Add a rune next phase to empower swipe somehow
-Leave it alone damage wise but remove the target limit making it a true AOE
“Snap Threat ability”
This is an ability similar to shield slam/bloodthirst/judgement/Mangle/earthshock etc used as an opener to get a small threat lead so you can start your rotation that requires build up.

Give bears thrash for AE threat and I total threat. No rage cost, AE, puts stacking bleed, has a CD. Ez pz.

Again… just bump the one from yesterday… no need to rehash the same points…
Make mangle a rage generator with a very small CD like retail.
other one was changing topic and all over the place.
We don’t “need” AE Threat… that isn’t our wheelhouse
Mangle and Lacerate could be different rune slots…
Bears were fine in classic … and got better threat with runes they currently got…

I agree we don’t need any real AOE threat all I am asking for in that area is for swipe to actually scale with something because if it doesn’t it will stay 100% useless and you may as well not have it on your bar… and if you may as well not have it on your bar… it may as well not even exist… so to me since blizzard made the ability exist they would like it to function and for players to use it…
Clearly you either don’t remember or didn’t play one in Classic or Vanilla. They were good yes but they did have one GLARING issue and its the same issue we have now… no snap threat…
Example:
Bear tank pulls Patchwerk lets assume his rage bar is full his rotation is as follows
Maul - Parry
x2 Swipe - causes around 100 Threat each
2.5sec wait for swing timer
Maul - Parry
x2 Swipe - 100 Threat each
2.5sec
healers now have aggro raid wipe.
This is an issue now due to Lacerate doing garbage threat until 3 stacks and healers and rogue/warr autos will rip off you
we need to be able to bridge the gap in the playstyle/rotation and for that we need a snap threat ability as stated above.
Our overall TPS during the fights is decent atm… its just the snap threat we literally do not have… at lvl 25… 1 miss/parry/dodge = you are no longer tanking
now, at lvl 25 losing threat for a few sec is not a big deal and who really cares? well this problem will not go away with more levels unless it is addressed. and at 60 in AQ it will matter.
see I disagree with this, I feel it breaks the classic feel… maybe the Mangle we had in TBC and Lacerate at the same time just like in TBC that way the gameplay isnt changed drastically from classic but the issues are solved.
Even warriors have issues later with the same sequence if the same things happen… miss the initial shield slam…
You will have more tools by then… likely 2-3 more tiers of runes
Lacerate will be fine at 60 when you running bigger weapons …
Thrash would be cool for AOE but I feel like we will have to wait and see what next phase brings! we really are not AOE tanks by any means and its kind of not in our wheel house so i dont really feel the lack of Thrash as an issue tbh and im trying to keep this thread focus’d on actual issues
That ship sailed.
Everyone is going to end up with AoE skills, and one of the datamined runes from back when was Thrash, but it had no details and it was the Cat version. Shadow Priests have two options already with Mind Sear and Shared Pain and they were never AoE DPS until Wrath. Warlocks have a dramatically amped up Rain of Fire already that will make Hellfire even stronger and have Shadow Bolt Volley, and Shadow Cleave in Meta. Shaman Tanks have some frontal cone move. Etc.
Druids and Rogues are getting AoE eventually.

let me address this response fully…
“Even warriors have issues later with the same sequence if the same things happen… miss the initial shield slam…”
if you miss the initial Shield slam/bloodthirst you swing with a HS in the same global… followed up by a sunder or if ur lucky a revenge… THESE ARE NOT THE SAME get real… try tanking patchwerk on a warrior using heroic strike and Rank 3 sunder armor and then you can see 1st hand the massive difference you completely ignored.
if you read the OP you will notice some of the suggestions are for more runes in later phases.
Lacerate IS NOT WEAPON BASED yes the tooltip says this… it is wrong… feel free to test it out yourself if you dont believe me… it will do the same damage if ur using smites hammer vs a white dagger.
With all due respect if you do not understand the subject matter plz keep comments to yourself until you educate yourself as it clutters the thread.

Susurrus welcome back to the convo take 2… yea I agree we are gonna get it later at some point even tho i kinda dont want it but meh it is what it is…
Hi!
Yeah I get people want to preserve some of the class/spec flavor that gave Vanilla some of its charm… but that charm is also what made some classes and specs just absolutely useless and frustrating to play. Mages being the kings of AoE because basically no one else could was very frustrating in Classic because we all understood how easy the content could be. Couple that with Mage being super strong single target as well and there was just no downside to bringing a Mage, other than the fact that you weren’t bringing a Warrior.
SoD is more or less applying Retail balancing concepts (every DPS should be able to DPS competitively, every Tank and Healer the same) but to a Vanilla backdrop. That means Tanks all get AoE, taunts, kicks, passive damage reduction, etc. None of it will be done until 60, so that kinda sucks if some big ticket rune is held off until then, but I strongly suspect we’ll be getting more active stuff for our next runes.
Too many classes still have systemic gaps or shortcomings. Warlocks for instance just really have no reason to actively use a pet or go deep Demonology beyond Demonic Sacrifice. Soul Link is certainly powerful damage reduction, but demon pets are fragile, don’t scale, and no current runes really amp them up. I strongly suspect we’ll see runes like the BM Hunter runes appear for Demonology.

Yea I agree to a point… the 2 issues I posted about I feel are valid because as for mangle/lacerate… they are both in the game but you cannot gain both at the same time and that needs to be addressed… and I think everyone is tired of the swipe not scaling at all thing XD
I personally think they are gonna stick closer to a TBC balancing rather than retail but we will see!
I’d argue we’re somewhere between Wrath and Cata overall, but Rogues have Legion abilities.

Agreed. Ferals NEED a snap threat ability.
They also need something more than swipe for AoE. Swipe is absolutely garbage.
sincerely – a player who mained feral tank in Classic Vanilla.
