Feels punishing to change mains

I don’t really think it’s intentional, but having been doing the secret questline and working to go back and solo a bunch of raids the last few weeks–

Edit: This is about doing old content / solo content and the phasing issues and broken quests that come with that. Not about changing mains for current content.

A lot of changes blizzard has made to the game the last few years make changing your main really punishing. I have switched mains every xpac for the last four. I’m even maining the same class and spec now as I was through DF, but I changed factions. I made a bunch of characters in Remix and really enjoyed that.

But they decided to strip away Threads of Fate and force people to go through the SL campaign to access covenants and other content. Doing this broke Oribos (obviously unintentional) so I had to do a bit of a workaround to get flight points working but I still can’t access a covenant without doing the whole thing. I am now working on the felcycle and - you need to be in the BFA version of the vale, which requires a long questline to open the heartforge so that Zidormi will reappear. Using the port to UC brings you to a plagued, destroyed UC that kills you instantly and ports you out to Brill (where there is, again, no Zidormi - unless you do the call to Lordaeron questline).

Running into this has me a bit frustrated. I never quit. I played every expasion, I’ve done every single one of these questlines previously, some more than once. I just wanted to play on a new server with new friends and utilized Remix to make a bunch of new characters, but I feel like I can’t accomplish any old content without having to backtrack to WoWhead and go through a bunch of hoops.

I really hope Blizz plans to address this. They keep saying they want the game to be friendlier to alts and collectors and solo players, but all the things they keep breaking just seem to say otherwise.

Don’t change mains.

Problem solved.

are covenants/sl completion really needed? i’d probably jump over it with timewalking/dungeons/queuable content or something.

“Needed” for this - no - but I do want to go back and do the covenant questlines and obtain the rewards that I didn’t while it was current. They even have an item for sale by the flight path vendor that bumps your covenant renown to 50, so they seemingly wanted to encourage people to enjoy the other covenants on their alts, at one point.

Edit: although I will say that when they totally broke Oribos they did make it really difficult for people to get to Ardenweald to finish the detective questline and people had to do workarounds including dungeons, like you said. Definitely not working as intended.

I changed mains about a month ago and I didn’t feel like it was a big problem… just tedious to grind gilded crests.

I agree. They really made it difficult to take really old or brand new characters into different expansions. And dear Metzen, the sharding and phasing if you skipped or did part of a quest line.

They really really need to make a “I’ve done all this before, catch my character up” button on the GENERAL tab. Not some random NPC that may or may not exist.

I’m doing the secret finding on my DH since I Mained it from legion to start of this expansion. But when I take my new paladin to oribos. She has access to Zereth Mortis but no portals or flight points.

It’s beyond broken. Also phasing to reach BFA corrupted zones = same problem. Legion - same thing - ran into phasing problems. Really really need a “catch me up to my main!” Button. Auto completes everything, unlocks everything. Stop chaining quests to a single character.

TOF should be available at 60 if you didn’t chromie time to SL, unless it was recently removed.

It’s been removed yeah, search this forum for “oribos”, “shadowlands”, “threads of fate”. They tried to remove TOF and in doing so, many players arrive to oribos now and find no NPCs at all lol

I feel the pain. I mained a DH since Legion’s first week. I’m starting from scratch on this warrior, who is only a week and 2 days old. It’ll be worth it in the end though, I’m finally growing up and giving up the edgelord class. :dracthyr_nod:

hes talking about a brand new character not an already max level from what i can figure.

Ah ok yeah that’s different

Weird. It worked for me at 60 a month or so back. But it’s a blue post so gotta go with that. Sorry man, that campaign did suck.

Yeah, a fresh(ish) 80 who can’t go back and do certain old content without fixing a bunch of phasing issues and unlocking outdated questlines. I’m not referring to gearing characters or doing current content - that’s all fine on alts.

They brough TOF back? I thought it was removed awhile ago.

They’re still going through the death throes of a “Character Focused” game as they migrate into the “Warband” “Account/Player focused” version of the game.

In time, I’m betting a lot of this stuff will get cleaned up.

It’s nothing compared to classic/tbc, but good.

ANYTHING that makes fotm chasing more tedious for the rats is welcome.

It is intentional. They don’t want you swapping mains all the time.

It’s to have a drawback to fotm chasers.

it’s FOTM chasing to want to farm Venthyr rep on a new character?
I just change it for the new xpac, not constantly throughout the season. I’m not talking about current content at all.

I can’t imagine SL being almost 3 years behind us and more people not already unlocking it and finishing it on an army of alts. Like, ignore the new character and go do it on one of the other 12. This is why I have my Druid. He does everything in the game, and alts get to it if I have time, but it all unlocks through him anyway.

FOTM chasing is when you’re struggling to do content you THINK you’re entitled to do, and outsource the blame to your class, rather than you yourself.

So these people switch to a “stronger” class thinking it will yield different results, and rarely does. Because newsflash, the problem was them, not the class (which is always evident by boatloads of people playing the same class achieving much higher ratings).

These same people will then pivot to complaining about the pugs, or the game itself.

Basically, they outsource all of their shortcomings to any factor except themselves, which is ironically the only constant.

Ok, sorry that’s frustrating for you, but it’s not actually what this thread is about.
