Feeling Out of Place

Anyone ever feel out of place in WoW as a monk?

I chose monk because I love the aesthetic that is mistweaving, and I love the color scheme of it all, like how a lot of the spells have a teal color to them.

But sometimes I feel so out of place. When looking forward to shadowlands, I just think, how does this make sense for a monk? I think about how monks harness chi, life energy, so I think about spinning it in that sense, reaching into the spirits when punching someone, but it still feels odd.

Just wondering if anyone else feels the same, about feeling out of place in general as a monk?

Your going to deep into it, its a class not a lifestyle. No need to waste your time trying to find reason in a abstract world. Its not like we the players can change anything either, so really do your self a favor and just enjoy the game.

You’re a legendary monk. The Grandmaster, the slayer of demons and monsters of the void. You’re gonna go to the realm of the dead, face Death himself, and punch him in the face. :prayer_beads: :person_in_lotus_position:t3:

Where there is light there is also dark. Where there is life there is also death. Neither can exist without the other. To understand life, we must journey to the shadowlands to understand death.

I really hate when they did this moving into wod.

As far as i understand. Monks use their own inner power, their spirit, so Monks are probably fine in any realm, because they are their own source of power.

But being a monk does feel out of place a bit, being a class that is very tied to one race, and one expansion, and being based on chinese martial arts when everything else in wow are based of western rpg tropes, but it can be part of the fun.

Demon hunter is tied more to a race than monk is. At least the pandaren were nice and taught others their skills.

I think I like monk because the class ascetics, the fact they derive their power from themselves, and the fact my class mount WONT SHUT UP. Wait, strike the last part.

Love that talkative good boy

For all of the sillyness that is in that show… Rock vs Gara is still just an amazingly well done fight

Yes I feel out of place. It’s like the only single thing about monk I don’t like, it’s theme feeling silly to me.

Diablo’s monk doesn’t feel out of place. It’s probably the way how WoW’s monk looks, feels and sounds. Less rip and tear and more cuddle and kisses.

I’m indifferent I guess. We stand out because we have unique aesthetics and brightly colored spell effects and I love it. We also feel disconnected from WoWs story because there isn’t any Monk NPCs in the current main story of the game.

I think we fit into the Shadowlands arc. Monks care about keeping things in Balance so I feel like our characters would care about fixing the Shadowlands.

Yes…because irl monks are violent like the ones in d3.

Real monks at least through a philosophical way are closer to wow monks.

True, they can’t be exactly the same because you fight a lot more humanoids in WoW that don’t deserve total annihilation like the demon horde in D3.

That being said, I’ll point out where your claim makes no sense:

  1. IRL - which is a stupid way to see the fantasy monks… Shaolin monks in the past will crush your skull if it means to protect the monastery. It’s part of the parcel when Bodhi Dharma taught them the skills to defend themselves. Tang Dynasty the Shaolin monks went to war, the more you know.

  2. in weaponless combat, it better look like blows have impact and power behind them. The class is already handicapped in terms of popularity because of said absence of weapon wielding. It’s a suggestion or opinion of mine to improve visuals of monk combat in the game.

And lets not forget the Boxer Rebellion where Shaolin and Wu-Dang even fought and killed Americans. Both monk factions had zero issues with violence.

If you think about how long the pandaren were secluded from the world. It makes sense that only pandas would be monks. How can a gnome or whatever be good at monk stuff when they just found monk martial art stuff a few years ago. It’s just something I always think about when I see other monks that are not pandas.

  1. Yes and thats the sameway with the monks in wow. They are peaceful, but will beat you to death with their bare hands of you threaten their land (this is shown in the books. Which are canon). So you literally just confirmed what i said

  2. The animations look better than every other animation in the entire game. Your opinion…is well. Pretty inaccurate.

Monks have been in the lore of the game since warcraft 3 actually and some bokks before mop.

With stuff like this it is pretty much just that

A. The class has always been around in lore and for said classes, they just never appeared till said expansion for themeatic reasons.

B. The time frame between expansions is actuallt longer than what the playerbase thinks.
