Today, the wife and I were hunting down schematics for the protoform synthesis, which was pretty fun (aside from the random drop ones).
When we turned in all the schematics, I was looking at the one bottleneck of the whole process, which are the rare blue-quality items that are required to make the mounts.
Many of those items come from the Olea Cache, but at a ridiculously low droprate. Like the genesis motes weren’t bad enough; I have to hope to get kissed by Lady Luck over and over and OVER to get all the unalloyed bronze ingot three times.
This is not to mention the schematic that drops from the exalted rep chest from the Enlightened.
I don’t mind working and grinding for good stuff; but crossing my fingers and hoping for RNG? Yuck.
As someone with every item except the 2 from the raid boss, trust me when I say the Genesis Motes are the worst part. I crafted every pet a few weeks ago at once, and still have I think 20 mounts to go lol. 7600 Motes needed still. X_X (I have put more time into just mote farming than anything else this expansion other than the Avowed Rep lol)
Though there are a few very very VERY annoyingly hard to get items.
I’m 0/23 on the tools from Lihuvim right now, and I need 2 of them. So…
The bauble is quite easy to get. WoWHead makes it seem like a daunting task, a shared loot node on a long CD?
But every time I’ve swung by it’s been there for me to loot.
Other than that, I agree I have no interest in the other mounts. The Bronze Ingot gives me a headache just thinking about.
You probably already know this if you’ve been mote farming, but:
If you’re farming the devourers in the bottom left part of the map, be sure to kill all the surrounding mobs. The small portal to the left of the cave spawns 3 mobs, not 2. But the 3rd one runs up to the cave and gets locked into a duel with an NPC and basically wont respawn.
Once I realised that I basically increased my mote gains by 33% and got my spider mount in no time.
I found a YouTube tutorial on the bronze ingot. After following it it turned out to be fairly simple. It’s not guaranteed to drop but I did it twice and got 1.
Whenever anyone mentions that they think Legion was a good expansion, I die a little knowing that endless RNG walls is the dynamic that was fausted upon us in Legion and now people glue the rose-colored goggles to their head and accept it.

One layer of RNG is enough! Once you break a (sic) 1% drop rate, YOU SHOULD BE DONE.
I only focused on mounts in ZM, the pets are ok, but some of them you can get a different color variation in the world, so I didn’t see the point in wasting motes on them, although I still have a ton of pet schematics, so I’ll go back…someday.
I have a good amount of the mounts, and found most of the rare items without too much issue, but yeah, even camping the portal with the 3 devourers, and another devourer behind you and sometimes a couple others spawning nearby, I would get a few hundred every 10-15 minutes, and that was even doing it alone. I have never grouped up for farming motes, I just get hyper focused, turn on some music and go nuts, haha. It’s annoying, but not as bad as some things there. Everyone is different though, like those farming for pets when I couldn’t care less about them, so good luck OP, you’ll get what you want eventually.
Knowing you’ve got months and months of farming before the next xpac, so what else will you do? hehe.
I am just missing the raid ones, the 3 bridles, and the 2 additional tools. I’ve opened maybe 9 or 10 caches with no luck. It’s insufferable as is the mote farming. Of course, they don’t plan to fix this because “engagement metric machine” disguised as a system to keep those subs going. I might give up soon because I really just don’t have the mental capacity to care about their bs anymore lol.
0.3%* drop rate on those bridles by the way. So fun.
Just join the raid and hope the pug knows how to get the high value cache open and doesn’t kick you for whatever dumb reason, just join a guild and ask for help It’s that simple right?
*This is the same drop rate as Rustfeather and Soundless’ mounts. Super cool!
I personally am really fed up trying to get the dratted crown item for the mount. I’ve tried the options that were given on wowhead and nothing drops for me.
Bronze ingots, in case folks don’t know, can be more easily acquired. (for some definition of easy).
North of Firim’s place, where the pools of whatever it is are that you ‘charge up’ by standing in them, is where to go. Charge up, teleport to the room that’s an inside location. In there is a console. It asks you what it should create. One of the option is bronze bar. It’s a weekly, however.
I found this completely by accident on my druid. Don’t have time to look up the place details, but wowhead does have details on this.
I’m still deferring judgment until I hit the wall where I’m not making any more progress just playing the game, but I hate secrets where I have to google some secret dance of steps to find where a pattern or resource even comes from (or that it even exists).
