Feedback Wanted: Further Adjustments to Layer Behavior in Stranglethorn Vale - February 23, 2024

  • Please describe the behavior or experience in as great a detail as possible.
  • Who was impacted by that behavior?
  • Where were the players who were impacted located?
  • What day and time (server time) did the issue occur?
  • What realm are you on?
  • Was sitting in Grom’gol Base Camp at 5:30 server time. At 5:50 server time was with full party of 5, was on layer 1 got switched to layer 4.

  • My entire party was layered to 3 different layers.

  • Grom’gol base camp, then traveling from there toward Zul’Gurub.

  • Feb 24th, 5:30-5:50 server time.

  • Crusader Strike

Trying to do the event is like watching a power point presentation. It seemed perfectly fine just a week ago.

pve upgrades being gated behind unplayable pvp content is a super solid development choice.

8 pm EST, 2 of our 5 player party were on their own phases. I dropped group and went through 4 different phases solo while trying to hearth out.

This is getting really really old. I can -maybe- group and play in 1/5 BMs, and that’s being generous since 3 of the last 4 were busted.

8pm EST Crusader-strike.

other players were layering in and out of my area. The boss area was unplayable as my character would be 100% health the the players in front of me would change as if i just layered and the i would have 0 health and back to the previous later.

We need more layers in STV during the event. It’s been too laggy to play.

I haven’t run STV today, but on Friday I would cast spells, see mana drop and do no damage. My group were on a different layer from me. I only got 60 coins from the event. Was pretty lame. I’m just waiting for the server to chill on monday to try again.

  • Please describe the behavior or experience in as great a detail as possible.

Extreme lag resulting in really poor experience since I cant tell what im hiting and where people are. Plus I tryed to make groups all day and multiple people were in different layers even If i pickd their name from general chat. They never were layerd into ours even 15min into the event.

  • Who was impacted by that behavior?

Everyone in STV.

  • Where were the players who were impacted located?

in STV

  • What day and time (server time) did the issue occur?

All STV Bloodmoon today

  • What realm are you on?

Crusader Strike

There was at least one time i and 3 irl friends got 2 others for the event. We were all in the same phase of stv before the event started. As the event started our two pugs got put into their own layers and us three were in a different layer. We dropped and reformed and all 5 of us ended up in a layer for one death. Then the warrior got shifted to another layer.

We were on living flame.

that’s because there are so many layers.

plus with how many there are now, most of the time your group members won’t all be layered with you.

the only fix for this event in its current boss/altar camping meta is if they make it some kind of instanced pvp like a bg.

No, Blizz reverted its previous layering change and decreased the number of layers. That’s why Org and Ironforge seem so populated now. The problem is, everyone gets packed in STV and it’s soo laggy and unplayable.

The devs are fighting two problems right now, both involving layers; either they thin the layers out which makes cities ghost towns but makes STV playable, or they reduce the layers, which populates the world but makes STV a lagfest.

Please describe the behavior or experience in as great a detail as possible.
I waited at least 24h before posting my reply to make sure the events on Friday night weren’t only exceptions, but now I can safely say that ALL the events I’ve participated in were hell since Friday night (6pm, 9pm, 12am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, etc.)
What happens is we never managed once to be in the same layer as a party and the lag is just unplayable.

Layering:

1- Went together at least 30 minutes before - No success
2- Tried passing party lead around - No success
3- Tried making it into a raid - No success
4- Tried exiting game and relogging - No success
5- Went together after the event started (hoping to get a fresh layer together) - No success
6- Went to different parts of STV (North, South, etc.) - No success

Lag:

1- Players are appearing everywhere
2- You can get killed before even being attacked on your screen and all of a sudden your screen freezes and then you’re dead
3- Rezzing at the Chained Healer takes multiple seconds
4- Casting is delayed by 2-4 seconds making it impossible to actually do anything or react
5- Going to different parts of STV didn’t fix this either

Who was impacted by that behavior?
Me and my guildmates

Where were the players who were impacted located?
Anywhere in STV

What day and time (server time) did the issue occur?
Every event since Friday night (6pm, 9pm, 12am, 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, etc.)

What realm are you on?
Lone Wolf NA

On a different note:
This event was SO MUCH fun during the week, no layering issues at all, no lags or if any, barely noticeable, I was telling people this was the most excited I’d been playing WoW for a while. I was always hyped for the next event in 2h30 when the current one ended. It was SO fun, but then Thursday some Chained Healers seemed to get removed forcing everyone to lose their invisibility buff around the same place and getting picked out by camping players there. Then, Friday the other change happened making the event just unplayable for the whole weekend. I still keep trying every 3 hours hopping to get a good one during the weekend, but it hasn’t happened so far and seems to always be unable to group with my parties and get rekt by the insane lag.

Hope you guys find a way to fix it and bring back the awesomeness this event was!
Good luck and thank you for your work.

-Made a group of 4 and were all on the same layer in Orgrimmar. Travelled to Grom’Gol in STV about 15 minutes prio to the event. All 4 were on the same layer entering STV but after running across the zone to our preferred location we were split layers and we became 2 groups of 2.
-We also experienced the worst lag I’ve seen so far in STV. I’m sure it’s bad for any class but it is absolutely unplayable for melee.
-Saturday 24FEB2024 9:00PM ST Blood Moon.
-Crusader Strike (NA)

I was fighting near the Gurubashi Arena at roughly 12:00 AM server time Feb 25th on Living Flame as a solo player, and I experienced input lag that caused my abilities take 1-2 seconds to fire. There were about 15 other people in the arena going for the chest with me, while many players were fighting outside the arena.

You want feedback its horrible. You took an event I could pug, I could take any random 4 players with me and make something and now made it impossible.

Time ALLWAYS, LAG ALLWAYS, EVENT STV, WHERE EVERYWHERE, SERVER LONEWOLF

Can dynamic layering be turned off for the Full Servers but left on for the Low Servers?

Because thats what needs to happen right now. While dynamic layering was off, the StV event was fun and playable on Crusader Strike. But people on Chaos Bolt complained that their zones felt dead because their layers werent spinning down anymore.

Crusader Strike should not have dynamic layering this early into Phase 2. Leave it off for 2-4 weeks and revisit it in a month when more people have quit until Phase 3.

Edit: Fact of the matter is, Blood Moon is pretty much THE endgame for Phase 2. Gnomer is once every three days and frankly the gear is milquetoast at best.

Blood Moon is the funnest PvP event you guys have ever invented, but it needs to be playable.

Frankly this event needs to be functional way more than a few players need to have their worries over some ephemeral sensation of “dead zones” assauged.

If Blood Moon isnt functional again soon, Phase 2 really is toast.

unplayable lag on living flame for last event.

  • Unplayable event due to lag - Mobs didn’t respond - Corpses could still attack others - Massive delay of 10+ seconds

  • The entirety of layer 6 on Crusader Strike

  • STV, the entire zone was non-functional

  • Midnight server time

  • Crusader Strike - US

The lag mainly started occuring around 5 minutes into the event. There were likely over a hundred people at the altar and it pushed the game to the point where basic game rules weren’t working anymore, when I died I could still cast sometimes. This was mostly around the altar south-west of the Ogre mound.

I figured there was some change. Just to let you know the event went from playable to literally unbearable, and it still didnt fix the layering issue! Couldnt get with my team still. Event was p fun beforehand but now its just not playable at all with this lag, and unless u have melee or aoe good luck.

Debuffs averaging -14 seconds remaining.

Noticing that it’s usually when you have stragglers who aren’t in the zone yet when the event’s about to start (within 3-5 mins, give or take) that phasing issues tend to occur when everyone’s finally in STV; usually the person in question has a separate layer. The solution people are taking is to try and kick / reinvite people to get them in the same layer - with wildly varying results ranging from more people being splintered apart to suddenly being in the same layer when the group is disbanded, only to split again upon inviting one another.

When the above happens, the system tends to prefer grouping certain players in one layer while sending the same select few away from each other.

On Lone Wolf at the midnight event, we had a group of 5. We were all on the same layer, but no matter where we went in the zone, there were 3-5 second delays on everything cast. Other alliance and horde were all rubber-banding for all of us. It was difficult if not impossible to land abilities when you actually needed them to land (eg. casting HOJ, trying to trinket a CC).

I really have enjoyed the STV event up until now and am hoping this layering “fix” gets reverted.
