You really think Blizzard has the capacity to track people who exploit? No. They should just implement dynamic spawning and merge realms after a month. I don’t know whats wrong with the devs who are so out of touch with how Vanilla WoW played.
Realm 3 teldrassil had an infestation of nelfs and no starting quest mobs at around 6-7pm on the 19th.
Instead of giving up as I did on the human I made, I just went into the forest and grinded some mobs, which worked. Problem resolved post lv5 entirely with regards to overcrowding.
IMO sharding risks creating a vacuous opening experience.
EDIT: only server side issue I found was when trying to sell items, which cause immense lag. Also… spiders’ rate of attack seemed… off.
My feedback on the Stress Test. 6/20/19
I went with Realm 15 pvp and went as an Undead Warlock.
Was the server crowded? At first, yes but I didn’t mind it. I was still able to finish quests and kill many different mobs. Took some time but again was ok. Suggestions? I’d say Blizzard could increase respawn time in starting zones but I don’t know if that would create more issues.
After leaving the starting zone, I noticed the realm wasn’t as crowded however I’m guessing it was due to people either A) spreading out or B) people getting stuck at the starting area. Overall, still healthy amount of people.
Final thoughts? The game ran very smooth and I did not lag out or DC. I sadly didn’t have time this time around to try dungeons or WSG, but the questing was great. Thank you!
yeah i do? they ban people for exploiting all the time.
All the servers felt really dead this morning, 11am EST. Tried 3 servers.
Blockquote
Except mere players have no way to manually select different layers as well as they have not told us exactly how they work so how can one exploit when one has a) no control b) no idea how it truly works
I mean players have shown that you can leave a grp join a new grp therefore entering a new layer resetting mobs guru chest etc etc. A simple we will ban you should scare off most. I just dont think getting rid of sharding is the answer.
So now joining groups is a bannable offense? That will go over well.
Joins group A: nah, don’t want to group with these anymore…
joins group B: BAN - violated X number of group joins as joining groups because of our horrible layering idea can be seen as bad…, mm kay!
Started on server 13 the instant the test launched, playing for a few levels until the servers went down. I felt that the population was appropriate in Dun Morogh.
Rerolled on server 3 when 13 never came back up, maybe an hour after the test launched. Dun Morogh was appropriately crowded for a launch day with people everywhere; personally, I love that experience. By the time I moved on to Loch Modan, everywhere was extremely empty for the rest of my experience, even through this morning. I would see another person once every couple hours maybe and felt very alone in the world. Ironforge and Stormwind were even ghost towns. From talking to others in guild chat, this was not the experience of others, so perhaps I got stuck on a strange layer apart from the crowd. I only ever joined a group when I would find that rare person questing in the same area.
- Only the immediate starting area was crowded and I logged on very shortly after the servers came up. The simple remedy was to walk past all people trying to do the first two or three quests, grind a few mobs, and move along.
- Felt just right after the immediate starting area.
Please keep these servers up past today! I would gladly play as a level 15 for the next 2 months!
Started out on the 19th around 5:30 EST/2:30PST, human on realm 15 because all other choices got taken offline (I would not have chosen PVP if given a choice). WAAAAAAY too crowded, impossible to complete anything in Northshire, no mobs anywhere but the landscape looked like a kicked anthill due to the players running back and forth waiting for respawns. Took maybe 2 hours to complete 1 starter quest (8/8 tough wolf meat). Went out into Elwynn, far fewer players but still almost impossible to find a single red or yellow mob anywhere. Went to Stormwind & did a couple fetch & carry quests but saw not a single other player.
Rerolled on realm 12 (medium pop) last night - Northshire substantially better but still hard to complete some starter quests. Kobolds were basically impossible to find in any of the 3 mines. Random wolves/bears/spiders in Elwynn were still reasonably present, defias a little sparse except the killer (level 9) ones but not impossible to find. Stormwind was a ghost town but not totally empty, saw another player once every 2-3 minutes. Completed all non-kobold Northshire quests & pinged 4th level in about 2.5 hours.
Tech-wise everything was impressively smooth and lag-free even on the high-pop server the first night. Gameplay-wise I think populations might be OK after the first couple days, once people spread out a bit, but even the medium pop server was too concentrated in the starter area since everyone is flooding in at approximately the same time (and staying there because it took so many hours to complete the simplest starter area kill/collect quests, and nothing outside was doable unless you managed to gain a level or 2 first).
Looking forward to 8/27 (or more likely, 8/29 or so, to avoid the initial crush in starting zones)
You are looking at it the wrong way. Its more why are you joining x amount of layers. What is the purpose… and if that purpose is to exploit say a rare resource like Black Lotus i think its fair to say thats unfair.
I didn’t get to play this stress test but I played previous ones. Did changing layers happen automatically sometimes or was that fixed?
But you don’t get it. Players have ZERO idea of how their layers change when they join different groups. When you join a new group you have no idea what layer you will be on or even if you will be on another layer. You can’t start penalizing community / playing with others when that is a huge reason many are wanting Classic instead of the current designers current retail product.
Having an idea on the layers changing has nothing to do with exploiting? If a player exploits by abusing layers isn’t that something worth penalizing?
What if i at lvl 1 i ran to gurubashi arena to gather the chest and asked random players to group so i could collect the chest X amount of times. Shouldn’t i be punished? Or is this fine and now apart of the game?
Imagine it without layers…
Come help me kill these guys in Redridge. Oh wait, we are all in a different layer now.
Don’t listen to cry babies about spawn rates, please .
Changing spawn rate mean : no need to party with the others.
Grouping should not be an offense PERIOD. If the game design for laying is bad, thats on Actiblizzard. Further, you don’;t know you’ll go to a different layer… as we have no idea who is on what layer or what layer we are ON. Maybe you’ll go back to layer two. Or stay on your current. WHO KNOWS. Blizzard making layering so awful (i.e. can make layers over and over as layering based on phasing - instead of say… each server has max number of layers Period) is not an excuse to start policing how many groups you can join or who you can travel the world with.
We can agree to disagree Lets hope with these tests and a little more time Blizzard will clarify more on how they will go about Layering.
