Server 2. Logged on at about 6pm PST on June 19 and played for a few hours. Created characters in the undead, night elf, and human starting zones. All 3 were overcrowded BUT it was so nice to see other players (I am on Twisting Nether, a dead RP-PvP server) that I still enjoyed it.
Quests were a problem, though. People were good about grouping up, but even in groups it just wasn’t possible to get the initial quests done because mob spawns didn’t support player numbers.
Unfortunately my best option in all 3 zones was to just grind levels on any mobs I could find without regard to quests, and move out of the zone ASAP. Once I moved to the second zone it was more reasonable. But I don’t think it’s good to skip the starter quests.
Today (6/20) I created characters in each starting area. I had the same experience of not enough mob spawns for initial quests to support player numbers in all zones except Tauren and Gnome.
It went alright, the first night was too slow, but the second day seemed manageable. Please leave these servers up until the full roll-out of classic!
Server: 15
Time: 2019-06-20 05:00 AM ET (02:00 AM PT)
Was it too crowded, even for a launch day experience? No, it was probably too low for the server being “high” population. This is counter to my earlier test at peak time where it was way too crowded. I know this one was done in the early morning hours, but a “high” population server with the level cap locked at 15 was pretty dead. You all need to do a LOT more work on this layering. It’s all over the place.
Did it feel too empty or too crowded after you moved to the second zone? I am unsure, I only leveled 1-9.
ran deamines on our 15s. we got to the forge and fought some engineers before the tank had to leave. was a great deal of difficult fun.
It worked! No issues creating a toon and logging into the game.
However it was unplayable due to number of people and slow re-spawn of mobs
i palyed to level 8 had fun playing just took forever with no mobs. I honestly think it took two hours to complete the Orc starting area - Boars, Scorpions , apple picking Blaze token and the large scorpion. Had same issues moving to Troll village not enough Crabs ect. I was grouped the whole time with active players.
This is not a problem. It is fine.
- Hunter Pets are not attacking properly. (perhaps lock pets) They will attack once and then run back.
that is all…
Thank you

Crowded, but I was very happy. I had to exploit old knowledge of the zones and find hidden pockets of monsters to progress. I felt like I was competing again.

It was still crowded in the second zone, but see the first. It felt like I was back in time again.
If this is a question about layering - remove it. It feels like survival of the fittest again and makes people think outside the box!
There is something severely wrong with shadows. When shadows are turned off entirely, it goes away. If you simply lower the quality one notch, it only goes away until you relog. Then turning the shadow quality back up fixes it… until relog. It happens on most lit surfaces I’ve seen and others have mentioned that it happens so I know it’s not only me. Diagonal stripes on walls that appear to scan closer and closer to each other as you get closer to the object. Almost CRT style.
I would post images but the forum blocks links. The irony of there being a “Link” button. These were all over in Org and Durotar. Makes nearly anything look hideous in light.
I was on Classic Realm 3 (PVP) and found it impossible to quest in human starter area then when I finally just leveled by grind and moved to the mines in Elwin Forrest those were also over crowded. This was from 2:30ish onwards. I gave up around 7pm (pacific) and went to eat. Upon my return it was more manageable but still crowded. However, that seemed more like more what one would expect for launch day crowded than earlier in the day.
The only real bug I found was a problem back in Vanilla… settings not saving unless you make your change, log out peacefully then logging back in it will have saved your settings/mappings. Kick, DC or other and your settings will revert to default.
Everyone found a work around for this tho so no big deal.
Just happy to see the ‘old world’ again!! Thank you for all the work you have put into bringing Classic alive!
I played from the very beginning of the stress test on Realm 3.
- In Valley of Trials, it was crowded but seemed fine for a launch day experience.
- After leaving the Valley of Trials, the population considerably dropped off but there was still a decent amount of people.
- By the time I got to the barrens, the game felt practically deserted. When I dinged 15, there was nobody around except for a couple of people in the crossroads. This was around 3:00pm PST today.
I started out on server 13 at a troll hunter as soon as the servers came up, and while there were quite a few people in the Valley of Trials, I wasn’t experiencing much downtime looking for mobs. The spawn rate felt faster that what I’d remembered in the previous stress test.
I moved over to 15 after the server squish, and that was a very different experience. Pretty much everything was dead, with lots of people trying to get tags. Things did still move, just very slowly. Groups formed up and staked out areas to spawn camp mobs. I think I finished with the Valley of Trials about 3 hours in. I ran to Sen’jin and Razor Hill, but I needed a change of scenery.
So, I made my way over to Deathknell to see how the Undead starting area looked. It was a nightmare. I spent some time working on the first couple of quests, but decided I needed a break. (When I checked the forum, the “end of the main testing phase” post had gone out, so it seemed like a good break time.) I came back a bit latter, and Deathknell was about the same as when I’d logged out. (Maybe worse?)
It felt like about the same number of people as in the Valley of Trials, and the real difference was in the quests themselves. In the Valley of trials, most of the quests have objectives spread throughout the area, whereas in Deathknell, the majority of quests objectives in very small areas in the starting zone. Unlike in the Valley where groups were staking out areas, all the groups were fighting on the same spot from mob tags. (So, basically, I know which starting zone I won’t be hitting up first on launch.)
After finishing Deathknell, I called it a night.
I came back this morning (about 7ish? PDT) and decided to complete my 1-5 set and did the Tauren 1-5 zone. There were a few people around (felt about like what I’d experience in the 1-5 zone in BfA with CRZ.) I didn’t have any issues finding mobs to kill and cleared it out pretty quickly.
After that, I went back to Durotar to start working on those quests. While it didn’t feel as crowded as the starting areas had the night before, it was still hard to find living mobs for quest objectives. The Echo Isles quests were particularly brutal, with the Voodoo and Hexed trolls being the worst. (Although Zalazane wasn’t too hard to get in a group. It seemed like when I was out hunting the other trolls there was never more than maybe two groups fighting for him specifically.) I did manage to get the Durotar quests mostly cleared out.
I headed briefly into the Barrens this evening. I didn’t try to do enough questing to get a good feel for it. (The main quest I did was the Demon Seed, which doesn’t require mob kills.) I was able to cut through the Razormane grounds to get to crossroads without drawing aggro, as the quillboar in the area all appeared to be quite dead.
The server was stable throughout my playtime. I never noticed any appreciable lag while looting or while at vendors. (I did quite often get empty loot windows — especially off of the various beasts in Durotar — but I figured the mobs just hadn’t dropped anything. I don’t know what the expected behavior should be.)
There were a few times where there would be weird pauses, where the game would become non-responsive, then the mobs and people would fade out and then back in. (But the same mobs and people that were there before as far as I could tell.) This only happened a handful of times. The first time I was in the Valley of Trials and had just managed to tag and kill 2! scorpids. (I got the first one partially looted with auto loot before the pause hit.) When it came back, my mobs phased out and back in (still lootable) and I think I might have gotten a second scorpid stinger off of the mob that partially looted.
Playing on Classic server 3.
The immediate starting area felt ok for a launch day experience. It was crowed but I was able to complete my quests without too much issue. (I started in Dun Morogh)
Moving past the initial Coldridge Valley it felt that players became more scarce. Moving into Westfall I felt I would run across only 3-5 different players.
Realm 3 on horde side was very crowded when the other realms went down. was hard to get the quests done.
After the starting area - brill was decent, assuming layering working as intended.
after that silver pine forest was a dead zone. rarely came across anyone.
Played on Realm 12 from about 6:45-8:00pm PT:
- Not crowded at all - not a challenge to tag mobs and was able to interact with other players easily.
- I didn’t have time to move to the second zone.
Great to check out Classic and relive some old WoW days!
Having played the closed beta up to level 40 and all of the stress tests, I have to say that this most recent test was a madhouse with only two realms available.
I spent at least an hour in the starting zone of server 15 and only managed to get two quests done. There were multiple people camping every spawn point for every NPC required for the quests. This is not going to work on release.
The previous stress tests required groups to get quests done due to the number of people in each layer, but it was manageable. This time around, I did made my best progress at server reset where I was able to kill a handful of NPCs before everyone was able to log back in.
Having played in every round of testing so far, I did not bother to progress beyond the first two quests after wasting so much time. I simply logged out and played something else.
It is worth noting that I only tried during the first hours of the most recent test. I did log in earlier today and the starting area was mostly clear.
I played on Realm 12 and it was okay. People were asking questions in chat and helping others find things that they could not find. Did notice items were missing off mobs just a minor thing. I have not played as much as I would like to but overall it was a good experience and enjoyed playing.
Realm 3 started off a little crowded but it was good, after the delete it became less crowded in the starting zone, after leaving the starting zone the world felt dead and lacking players,
Trying to train hunter pets causes my client to freeze.
