Westfall chicken is incorrectly named. It should be “Westfall Chicken”, not Prairie Chicken. Yes, I did the silly /chicken quest =D
Started on Realm 16 (RP) it was ok, maybe a little empty but figured i was beating the rush. Once servers where shut down moved to realm 15 alliance, it was so over packed that we ended up not being able to do the starting quests and just grinded to get out of the start area. Once we had moved on things started to thin out and were a little better. By the end of the night it seemed really good. Just that initial rush in the NE start area was impossible to quest.
Played realm 12 as gnome mage from qbout 7 pm - 10 pm server time.
The starting zone was crowded but not overly crowded, it was a “launch” and was able to complete quests.
Moving to the secone zone it did become less dense but there were still plenty of people running around.
Tons of fun overall!
About 4:10pm Central, Realm 3. Northshire, very crowded. It would help if there was a mechanism to spawn more creatures faster when there’s a larger population in an area. People grouped up and that helped. Once in Elwin, not so crowded except in Fargodeep, where there seemed to be no kobolds at all.
Same, it’s gotten a bit better on 3 but I was enjoying the population of the lower realm like 4.
You still had a lot of people around but it was more manageable and you could get mob tags.
I logged onto server 3 around 8 pm ET in the Human starter zone and it was totally fine in comparison to the last stress test. It was busy as expected (but reasonably so, not overcrowded) with lots of players and mob competition, but I had a far, far easier time of questing than the last test.
People were amenable to grouping which I ended up doing for most of my time tonight in various groups, quests got done mostly quickly, and once I realized I needed to put FFA loot on, those quests requiring mob drops got done as well. Before changing loot, getting drops for these quests took insanely long and I’m not entirely sure why - it caused many mobs to either not be lootable or not drop the quest item at all, whereas FFA made quest items drop at high rates.
The only real issue I found was in Fargodeep Mine which always seems to be an issue for people because spawns are slow and drops aren’t 100% drop rate, so people spend forever in there. I get there’s probably not much you can do about that one that would be authentic, though.
initial start zone was very crowded in undead starter area. Tirisfal in its entirety felt populated but not too much after leaving start zone. Went to silverpine forest and it was dead. I maybe saw ten people and even they disappeared after awhile. this was 12pm est when I made it to silver pine forest.
I played later in the test time frame. From about 7pm-10pm PST. Made a NE Druid on Classic Realm 3.
I was able to do all my quests fairly easily, with the right amount of interactions with other players in the Starting zone. As I moved on to the next area of quests (dolonar), there were less people, but still enough to make me feel like others were doing quests and not alone.
Biggest bugg I saw was on my friends lists for realiD, the player locations had nonsense and characters in the name of the location. Like Battle for Dazor’alor was “Battle for Daz12sdahgsf’asd”
Biggest issue I had was in regards to looting, mob would die, show loot stars, go to loot and nothing there. I remember this being an old classic bug. But then some mobs would die, not have any loot and there were not lootable. Also there was a half second delay before I could loot on most dead mobs.
I got to lvl 8 before shutting it down for the night. Thank you for the opportunity to help, I’ll continue to lvl as long the server is up and provide feedback.
Not sure if this is a bug but me and a friend are unable to group due to layering. Is there a way to go around this?
Logged in when you just had the two servers up. Lots of orcs and trolls standing around waiting for mobs in Durator. Grouped up several times for the Echo Isles quests. Drop rates for pygmy crawlers mucas was brutal. Must of killed 40 of them. Almost died a bunch of times killing trolls on my priest…Cant wait for launch!!!
I played on Classic Realm 3. I noticed a resurrection bug which happened after I died. It immediately showed a button saying “Resurrect now?” and after clicking it, it did not do anything. After waiting for close to a minute without nothing happening, my character would then move to the spirit healer. This happened consistently every time I died.
The rest has been fine. Good amount of players, I never felt I had to wait for too long for mobs to spawn. Today’s experience was the best among all the stress tests I have done so far.
Thanks for the opportunity.
I started out on 13 at 2pm. Right after it opened. The log in experience was great. I was grouped with my husband and we were able to get to lvl 4 before the servers went down. Quests took a little bit of extra time because of the tag battles, but it wasnt unreasonable for a launch. However…
Then the servers got smashed and we only had the 2 options. We opted to go to server 3. It was a total crap chute. Way too many people, and the lag, made it take forever. We logged off at 5pm exactly. It took over 4x as much time to get anything done on server 3 vs server 13 after the forced squish.
I would have personally probably played a lot longer if it wasnt for the fact that I felt like I couldnt get anywhere with out tag sniping people left and right. At lvl 2 on Server 3 we left Northshire Abbey and found it was faster to farm the lvl 5-6 spiders, wolves and boars than it was to even try to do any quests or get any tags. Around 330-4 ish a lot more people came out of Northshire Abbey area and moved into the general Elwynn Forest questing and the same issue came up. Forgo questing and just grind mindlessly was faster and much much much much much less annoying than trying to get any quests done. We went backwards and did end up finishing Northshire Abbey area around lvl 5 or 6. It was absurd honestly.
I think that for a stress test, it served its purpose. It stressed. However I would like to not see the number of servers decrease and force a situation like what we saw after the server cut back.
The Idea of low pop realms does appeal to some players and always has. Not everyone wants to play High Pop and if they do, especially with Vanilla/Classic, they have to understand that it is likely that the Server 3/15 experiene is more like what they will be getting.
All in all to answer directly.
Was it too crowded–Not intially, but after the forced merger absolutely.
Even for launch day-- Yes.
Did it feel too empty or too crowded after you moved to the second zone–second zone as in out of Starter area and into te main part of the zone? If yes, for a short time it was less crowded, then it was overly annoying again to try to quest level.
If no, I coudnt honestly tell you. I gave up before I got there because of the sheer amount of Lag from the manual manipulations that were being made, as well as the inability to reasonably do any quest with out having to snipe. With in the target 3 hour period, I wasnt even able to finish Goldshire or Start Eastvale and/or Westbrook.
Realm 15 is REALLY crowded lol. It takes hours and hours to get to level 6.
Unplayable in that state really but if you’re a hedonist like me you keep pushing.
I’ve never seen so many people in one place. It was an interesting experience.
Specifically:
-
Was it too crowded, even for a launch day experience?
Yes -
Did it feel too empty or too crowded after you moved to the second zone?
Still too crowded.
Lvled to 15.
Started Realm 5 was empty in the gnome/dwarf starting zone was able to hit lvl 5.35 in the 30 mins it was opened.
Then was consolidated into realm 3 was vary packed but was still able to hit lvl 5 in 30 mins just not the extra 7 bars so I would say it was about perfect.
When moving on to the next zone in realm 3 would of been a hour in at this point it felt much less crowded but was still waiting for respawns at some point again I would say it felt pretty good. being a little more crowded probably wouldn’t of hurt xp times much.
Server 3 before it was “merged” (?). Started as Forsaken. Played the first 1.5 hours of release.
The first quest (Mindless Ones? The one with undead killing) was neigh impossible to complete because there were many people. I simply grinded to level 2 on whatever mob I could find and did the Bat/Wolf part collection quest just outside of the first area you start the game. Surprisingly there were very little people there (because I think people forgot about this zone between the starter zone - Deathknell) so I had a nice time killing all mobs myself. I noticed that far too many people were fighting over other bats/wolves down the road because people were probably “going with the flow” and didn’t think to go back for these mobs.
I grinded a bit more and went straight to the Spider cave. There were about 10 people, so I grouped with one and managed to complete it OK-ish. There was some mob stealing but nothing out of the ordinary for a Vanilla experience.
I grouped for the Scarlet quests and the Samuel quest, and after that left Deathknell.
I skipped the rattlecage / collect boxes quest because that first area outside Deathknell was still extremely crowded.
The other areas were relatively empty. I managed to Ding to lvl 6, when the highest leveled players were 8, so I was most likely slightly ahead of the curve simply because I was able to get out of Deathknell. I did the pumpkin quest and managed to reach to Brill with just the right amount of people around me, about 3-4 people on the road, 10-15 people in Brill.
Doesn’t feel like classic…
I spent a few hours on tonight. It just doesn’t seem challenging. It’s not as bubble gum sugary simple as BFA, but it isn’t far off. It felt like I didn’t need to think about what I was doing…just stand there and spam a button.
Does not capture the challege of the original…
I know what you mean. It did seem easy but apparently these are accurate 1.12 numbers…
Just to note there was no flight path there until Cata.
You mean a game that you played 15 years ago isn’t as challenging for you of fifteen years older?
Shocking xD
I don’t think WoW was ever difficult. It was meant to be the more accessible option in comparison to other MMOs of the time even back in Vanilla.
We were all just poorer gamers back then, that’s all. As has been said a million times across these Classic Discussion Forums, you will never be able to recapture the original magic of your first time playing WoW. That’s not what Classic is about.
couldn’t fish after learning the skill. got the motion that something was on the hook, but nothing happen after click.
