The Penalties for “Toxicity or Abusive Chat” Are Too Harsh
The current penalties for chat-related offenses seem excessively severe:
Temporary mute
7-day suspension
10-day suspension
Permanent ban from the game
As someone who was recently suspended for “Chat Toxicity,” I didn’t even know why I got suspended until I made 3 service tickets… I believe a more reasonable approach would be to simply mute the player instead of escalating the punishment. Almost anything said in chat can be perceived as offensive or toxic by someone, so why not mute the player for a few days or even a couple of weeks instead of jumping straight to a suspension or permanent ban? This would allow the player a chance to reflect and improve their behavior, while minimizing disruption to the rest of the community.
You are welcome to move this over to General Discussion. Since this seems to be a feedback topic, no suggestions will be passed on to anyone who could potentially change how the system works.
It used to be varying lengths of silences but those didn’t work. Users would just keep repeating bad behavior since they deemed a silence to be an acceptable punishment. Punishments aren’t meant to be acceptable, hence the current system of silence than suspensions.
Because they did it before and all it did was make folks just wait it out before resuming such. Didn’t do anything to stop the behaver. If you think the actions is harsh, then that’s doing its job. It isn’t be something you’d be fine with.
That isn’t how that works. There are considerably more chances than what you have listed.
As the others mentioned though, this is not really the place for feedback on the penalty system. I’d really recommend using the option in-game under the Support option.
This is not the correct timeline, as penalties double from the 7-day suspension. The fourth offense is not necessarily a permanent ban.
Having said that, if they seem severe, it’s because that is the entire point. Punishments aren’t supposed to be convenient or comfortable. They are intended to grab your attention, let you know that what you did was wrong, and to stop the behavior from happening again.
Again, if a punishment is “reasonable”, then it is not doing its job. Plus, they do mute you at first, as you yourself listed above. If you keep doing it, then the punishment intensifies. This is normal for every stage of life. Break a rule in school, you get a warning. Do it again, it’s a detention. Break a rule in real life, you might get probation. Do it again, you might be in jail.
It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of what was said. It only matters what Blizzard thinks.
Again, if someone is earning a permanent ban from their chat, then they already received the mute. I’m baffled as to why you keep saying this, when you already listed the mute is the first step. You KNOW people get muted, but you’re asking for them to try muting? What?
Same as above. They’ve already had that chance, and they didn’t learn.
Unfortunately they’ve tried this before, and not too long ago, at that. It did not have the desired effect with the bad actors in the bunch as there was ultimately no risk to all the work they’d put into their accounts through the years. They’d just wait out the mute (silences, in this case) and come back and do it all again, knowing that no matter really how bad it got (outside of extremely egregious situations), they would be able to come back one day.
While this is true, they aren’t the final declaration of whether or not an account has action taken. That lies solely in Blizzard’s hands in accordance with policies set forth by development. Players can report for anything and everything until they’re blue in the face, but if the reported person hasn’t actually done anything wrong, then nothing will come of the reports.
They have given their time to help others with accurate pinpoint advice. That you disagree with it to the point of repeatedly insulting them doesn’t dilute their point whatsoever.
why exactly are you deleting my replies to a post about “abusive language” and suspensions/penalties, I am simply talking about this topic, when another regular player is shutting me down when I am just talking about the same topic of the post?
Because you were fully and specifically answered in your own thread .
Your fellow players spend their own time on this forum to offer their assistance and advice when they can. To respond to them in the manner you have is at best unkind, and came off as extremely rude.
Best advice so far you’ve been given - if you got actioned for a word ingame, don’t go using it here either.
There is really nothing further to ‘discuss’. Your specific issue was looked at, and you received your own answer.
