Feedback: Hunters

If anything ‘screams’ survival fantasy to me, bring back the tar trap + flare ground damage AoE… that was such a cool idea and it was dropped so abruptly.

Have you tried using your CDs + tar trap, freezing trap, binding shot, intimidation, cheetah and of course disengage?

Because some people do. sorry to break this down to you, but not everyone is rly good at this game, some people are disabled, some people just want to have fun and they chose hunter for that, because it fits then and give then an easier time than other class due to pet utility.

All of then had tangible reasons and arguments that could be made against it, this case? nothing.

Demo form was an demon hunter ability originally anyway, the mage class is not revolved around summoning elementals. But hunter are defined by having pet, all specs could do that more and les than the others

Of course it is an outrage, why would you need to change spec to play the game like you use to do? each class have its strong suits, hunter is doing solo content better

Would you be fine if a spec was dogpiss and the solution was to play another spec? what kind of lame game is this?

Red with bubble and lay on hands and fury with good leech can solo almost anything a prot can

Further Survival Feedback

Hello! Just wanted to add some additional feedback after spending the last few days playing Survival on the PTR.

Born to Kill

The concept of this talent is really cool. The second portion, however, is a bit lacking:

Cull the Herd now additionally increases the damage taken from your Kill Shot by 25%.

This sounds great on paper, but I think the 8s window to land this buffed Kill Shot from the length of Cull the Herd is not long enough. On PTR, Kill Shot is being cast around every 10-12 seconds. Outside of very lucky procs, you would not be able to take advantage of this window because 8 seconds is too short.

Ursine Fury

The cooldown reduction on Flanking Strike is not potent enough to be relevant. This talent gives Rend Flesh a 10% chance to reduce the cooldown of Flanking Strike by 2 seconds whenever it deals damage. It currently deals damage every 1s for 10s, so on average it is effectively 2 seconds of CDR.

With how often we spawn Beasts/Bears, this feels nearly useless. Flanking Strike is one of, if not THE most powerful ability we have. It feels great to press and it lines up perfectly with Spearhead and Coordinated Assault to really amplify it. If we can’t get enough cooldown reduction to keep these abilities lined up, it feels really bad.

Howl of the Pack Leader (outside of combat)

Howl of the Pack Leader alternates between having a “ready” beast and having a timer that counts down until your next beast is “ready” to be summoned. When you are outside of combat, you cannot always spend your ready beast. If this beast expires after 30s without being used, it begins the 25s countdown to spawn another beast, effectively making you wait a full minute before you can summon a beast.

Is it possible to have it so when a beast times out, it just rotates to the next beast? The current behavior would feel pretty frustrating when you travel between packs in M+ or if any raid fights have downtime/roleplay moments. Seeing your “ready” beast time out and having to wait another 25s feels bad.

Tracking the Current Bugs

Pack Leader (understandably, since it’s new after all!) has some bugs right now that make it difficult to gauge how things actually perform. For example, the Bear’s bleed, Rend Flesh, cannot crit and does not get buffed by some talents that SHOULD increase it, such as Cull the Herd and Unnatural Causes.

Closing

Thank you again for reading. It’s been fun to test the new Survival and Pack Leader updates.

Yeah. A lot of mobs are immune to all that. Including delve bosses, who will smash your head in.

And other specs, such as BM, still make this entirely possible.

Demo form was an demon hunter ability originally anyway, the mage class is not revolved around summoning elementals. But hunter are defined by having pet, all specs could do that more and les than the others

When I read stuff like this, I won’t even bother addressing the rest of your comments.

MM already made possible, it was working fine, that was not the reason the rework came to be, so why it need to change? why force people to change when its not necessary in the slightest?

It doesn’t make any sense, all people can do is coming up with slippery slope fallacies saying how still having the option would hinder or ruin MM design, when it would not

Because they are right, you know it, and cant counter argument with anything factual other than more fallacies.

People play MM because they like the feel of MM. If they liked BM they’d already be playing it. Maybe they want to be a ranged character and choose sentinel.

And maybe they want to be a ranged character while solo, which is where the pet tank comes in. To keep the mob at ranged.

The people going all “archer” and “sniper” aren’t thinking about how that sounds when you’re solo. Then it switches between “rabid chipmunk” if you try to kite it or “fire from point-blank range” if you can’t. Neither of those really fulfill the spec fantasy that people keep throwing out.

Are they bringing back wind arrows or wailing arrow in some form for dark ranger? I’m a big wailing arrow enjoyer—I like the animation, the sound effect, etc. The eagle, on the other hand, is stupid and I hate it. I might just go back to playing a mage when this goes live.

Since when is BM not “ranged”?

Nice of you to completely miss the point of my post. Try again.

Not missing the point at all. Other classes have to change specs to solo harder mobs, but apparently if hunters have to do this, it’s a crisis and impossible.

Nope. They’re both gone. And so is barrage. And aimed shot is a 3 second cast time. And trueshot no longer makes it cast faster. And one of the second row talents increases the time between your auto shots by 2 seconds. The whole thing feels outrageously slow and many of the abilities with any pizzazz to them are gone. It sucks that they’ve forced the conversation to focus on the pets so much because this new tree itself is just awful. Utterly worse than what we currently have.

Because we don’t currently have to do this. Have you paid any attention at all to what we’re taking about here?

Yes, cause players should be forced into a play-style that they don’t enjoy inorder to continue playing aspects of the game that they could beforehand. We need this change all so some meta players don’t have to pull out a pet to use Hero, and have to take time to dismiss them.

The easiest fix is to just give that utility to the spec and not the pet. MM could have pets become guardian pet, and use growl to hold aggro; however, that’s asking too much. No we need to just completely remove the pet cause they need to play Legolas.

So what you’re saying is, I’m right:

IMX, given how movement unfriendly they are already, coupled with how health spongey mobs become at high level along with resistance to CCs alongside diminishing returns - MM is going to struggle.

Compared to using it with a pet now, losing that with no boost to our survivability, it will be harder. Especially since the MM mastery about “fighting at range” is entirely lost since you will be in melee for every encounter in those higher delves.

I am reading this about MM and pets, but on live, my Hunter is Ilv 615 (can’t change characters for whatever reason) and if I got to the Bee area, my pet gets its but handed to it. Makes no difference if I use a Ferocity or Tenacity pet, I am hard press to hit the heal button and do whatever I can to keep it up. If I go hard, I get agro.

So the pet tanking is for yes, lower content. Even fighting elite outdoor content, I need to kite and use traps even with the pet out. That’s live as it stands and using my Dark Ranger MM build.

Then I daresay you’re overpulling. Because I’m there at this very moment on my 586 hunter doing just fine.

Misdirection to your pet. Feign death if you get close to pulling aggro. Survival of the Fittest and Exhilaration affect both you and your pet.
