You can’t command the eagle to attack someone, you obviously cant do that while sapped.
You are assuming a debuff will keep enemies in combat for some reason

The eagle, as far as they’ve currently described it, can’t attack like a pet so it can’t keep anything in combat.
I see what your saying, but the pet MS in pvp wasnt a continuous effect either as pets die, get knocked back, CCed, ect. Rezing your pet multiple times a battleground and ressummoning it because it despawns somtimes was already hindering MS some. All targets you want to harm will be receiving Aimed Shot. One interesting pet use was guarding a node in a BG and sending my pet to attack players at a different node while I stayed at another. Telling the pet to attack different folks I think might be clicking the flag I am 150 yards from was hilarious fun. But if I got attacked my pet is 30 seconds or more from returning to me so pet utility is disabled until I let my pet walk to me or dismiss and resummon it while in combat.
I believe the “do pets attack targets out of combat” conversation was a continuation of the “should MM keep traditional pets as an option to keep targets in combat/provide tank services” conversation. In any case I like most utility moving to the Hunter/eagle.
Sure, more specifically in arena where you’ve got melee and LoS, you’re not going to be consistently getting aimed shots off like you are in BGs, and your MS is going to fall off more than the other hunter specs and things like rogue/dh/etc that apply it passively. It being the same % ms as the effects that are more permanent is what i’m takling about. The only time your pets are really dying is via rogues and ferals aoe bleeding them since those bleeds don’t get the aoe pet damage debuff that other cleaves do.
If I cant hit the target with Aimed Shots whether my teammate puts MS on the target or not I still need to get back in LoS to get anything done. Although I think Rapid Fire can continue to fire when a target hides if I started the cast before they hid, and Volley I think still allows me to ignore LoS in 11.1. Typically Ill Binding Shot, then Salvo/Volloy, then Burst rotation. LoS not so much of an issue for MM.
Will just have to see what you can actually do with the eagle and how it behaves. It has to be able to target stuff. Pressing trueshot makes it insta-mark stuff. There’s a cleave talent where it marks extra things. You can intimidation out of los with it. Not that farfetched that it might also follow the thing around that you currently have targeted. Or that might just be something that you can’t do any more as a tradeoff for having a pet that does the rest of your pet functions that can’t be targeted or killed. I, for one, won’t miss the designated base sitter role if that’s the case.
Well, with the new pvp talent you can cast while moving during cheetah, and there’s another that reduces the cd on cheetah to 1.5mins.
So overall it seems like it’ll be easier to get aimed shots off than how it is currently.
That’s still not the same thing as permanent passive MS. It’s going to fall off more coming from aimed shot than it will for sv/bm coming from pet. There’s not really any way around that.
Seems like a pretty minor issue, and really dependant on how long the debuff lasts. Why should we even expect 100% uptime on an MS effect anyway?
In this context because it’s still 25% Ms and the other hunter specs still get it from pet melee. I actually agree that everyone’s Ms should be more like this, but it’s just gonna be a flat nerf until they change the others. Alternatively, I think there’s opportunity for aimed shot to give slightly better ms since you should expect it to have less uptime than the others. Maybe aimed shot 1 puts an 17.5% ms on for 8 seconds, then if you get another aimed shot on the target in that 8s window, it changes to a 35% ms for 2-4 seconds and then falls off.
It would also be cool if there was a pathway for you to generate precise shots charges with steady shot. I think that the consecutive concussion pvp talent is overdue for some changes and having every or every other steady give you a precise charge would be more useful than a third stun that requires 3 steadies. That stun is unneccesary now that marks has both intim and binding stun anyway.
what about the new changes requires disabling mm pets entirely?
its not like lust, freedom or last stand type spells only exist with hunter pets.
There’s nothing about the new design that mandates the removal of pets, You just make a new passive in the spellbook called “boon companion” that nerfs your damage if you have a pet out.
Im not arguing that the remake is bad or that it shouldnt exist, I’m saying that in an MMO non optimal things can exist for the sake of flavor, that’s the rpg part, the part that gets your customers to stick around for decades at a time, and maybe messing too much with that part is as bad of a design change as negative gameplay change.
Nothing. But half of the people here are upset that they have to interact with the eagle at all, because that’s too much pet. Invoke regular pet and eagle, that’s now two pets.
Pragmatically, they’d just have to remove aimed ms and do something else with the talent slots that you’re supposed to spend on replacement pet spec utility. All you’d be left with is the same problems that lw has. Sacrifice damage for the allotted amount of utility that you’re supposed to have, or have no utility and do the amount of damage that you’re supposed to do compared to everyone else.
I’ve been playing since BC. I’ve gone through a lot of crap I disagreed with or outright hated and still stayed. If this change goes through, I’m unsubbing. This is absolute clown shoes development from a junior team that has never actually worked on an MMO before and came strictly from mobile games. When they filled the gaping, gushing wound from the amount of devs who quit in DF due to Kotick’s RTO mandate, they filled it with people who didn’t actually have experience in MMOs whatsoever.
You might as well remove stealth from Outlaw Rogue, Demon pets from Affliction, all healing spells from non-Resto Druids, or Death Strike from Blood DK.
They could add something like necrotic strike on aimed shot, where it does some healing absorption. That’d be kinda cool.
It all depends though on how long it lasts. Did they say the duration? If it lasts long enough then it’s not really an issue. We will be getting off aimed shots in pvp.
Sure, as long as, which is the case in nearly all M+ boss fights, ranged classes are no longer required to stay close to the bosses in order to be able to move rapidly away from boss attacks (think ‘clear the deck’ in SoB). I agree that things are looking promising for MM, so it’s a ‘wait & see’ game at this point, & I’m sure there will be iteration on the class spec itself, as well as boss mechanics.
Right. Experience with a boss or mob lets you know if it is better at that time to be close or far away.
probably one of the most dramatic things ITT. are you really saying a Blood DK losing death strike (the identity of their entire kit) is akin to MM losing a pet (absolutely zero and I mean this literally zero spec interaction with the pet0
Isn’t you that said the game change and evolve? maybe the game changed and evolved so blood dont do death strike anymore /s
