Feedback: Hunters

We likely will find out the true implementation next week if PTR goes live, so there will be less room for random and chaotic speculation based a blue post. Hope all the posters here try it out when it comes up!

i’m calling it petless in hopes that they remove the eagle completely tbh

If they do continue with this plan, I hope the marksman eagle isn’t a literal eagle, but is an ethereal looking thing like when survival uses aspect of the eagle. And which only shows itself when abilities call for it. I don’t want to see it otherwise.

A couple weeks back someone on here responded to one of my many negative posts about the changes with the suggestion that maybe the eagle will be like a manifestation of your inner hunter’s spirit or something. Not an actual bird. That is an idea I guess I could get behind. Having no pet is one thing. Having a mandatory pet is another.

They already said its going to be a real eagle, that they want to “flesh out” to be a “true pet”, more likely meaning you can get like, two glyphs to make look like an own and i dunno a damn parrot for all they care

Yeah, I made an earlier response to that part of their patch notes and how it particularly bothered me. Because we already have true pets! So then, what are they even doing this for??

I dunno. It’s a supremely frustrating situation. Giving us these patch notes right before the Christmas break, with no chance for further communication. Just leaving the forums to fester with it. And still no PTR. Absolutely bone-headed.

Just be patient. It’s the holidays for them too.

Honestly I think everything that can be said without the PTR has already been said, and people obsessing over this so much is their own doing. It’s easy to walk away until the PTR hits, when real feedback can begin. The people that don’t want to like it wont. The people that do want to like it will. It’s not healthy to let this fester.

Good gawd no! I never even liked Sylvanas. I find it super creepy that guys fantasize about her. She is an undead…ewww…yuckk

How about a bucket of fried chicken? Would make as much sense as this stupid eagle thing.

Very good point. They explained that hunters are “defined by their pets” or whatever and that “MM stood in defiance of that” with Lone Wolf and abandoning using the pet for more DPS with frustrations over having to use it for lust… Then somehow they ended up at the point of using a fake pet over the actual pets hunters already have.

Again, if Lone Wolf is the problem (based on what they said themselves) then what are they doing? They never mentioned that MM should be a “sniper by itself” like so many players have tried to claim. They just came up with this bizarre mechanic out of the blue that no one even asked for and didn’t even explain why they wanted that over the pets we already have.

Based on the problems they addressed the changes should have said something like “hunters are defined by their pets, but MM hunter has stood in defiance of that for a long time due to Lone Wolf offering more throughput than using a pet, so to correct that we are removing Lone Wolf and letting hunters choose the specialization of their pets. This should eliminate the frustration of using a pet because it will no longer be a loss in damage.”

We get it. Many of you don’t like the eagle. They are redefining what your pet is as an MM hunter. Read the blue post again.

Solving the problems caused by Lone Wolf. It’s just in a way that a lot of you don’t agree with. They are solving the problems though.

Look up what Marksmanship’s mastery is and report back (Spoiler: It’s called ‘Sniper Training’). They wouldn’t have coupled this with Lone Wolf if that’s not what they wanted in some regard.

Many players for a long time have been begging for a solution to the Lone Wolf and Pet Utility problem. What they propose IS fixing that problem.

But they did explain…just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it wasn’t laid out for you. They are taking MM in a new direction with fantasy and tying it to Aimed Shot’s power.

key word there: unique

Can you explain the problem Lone Wolf is causing exactly? Because the way they described it was “Why should a Hunter be frustrated to pull out their pet?”.

The solution to which is to… remove pets? There is literally no logic to this. You’re just ruining the spec for the majority of players to please the few in high-end content.

Solving a problem by creating several ones, including ruining the spec definition by their “redefining”

You are moving goalposts here, the person is saying blizzard reasons - that they gave on the blue post - had nothing to do with they wanting to be a sniper by itself

Which just mean, making bloodlust a MM ability rather than being tied to pet, basically removing the utility from the pet

No one asked for the pet to be removed, neither to have a different fantasy or thematic, no one asked for MM to de defined by having a bird.

And you still got some stuff wrong

Which apparently is not the case anymore because they are going back to “MM has to have a pet”.

Once again, Lone Wolf is the problem they identified. They are removing Lone Wolf due to this issue. Having a pet is the fantasy they are referring to by “re embracing pets”. What they don’t acknowledge or address is WHY they are doing that through this pseudo pet and completely removing access to the stable instead of reverting back to you pull out whichever pet from your stable that you want. If Lone Wolf goes away, the source of frustration over lust and all of those abilities go away as well.

Sorry for the confusion.

read the blue post

Blizzard: We want to redefine MM fantasy to always have a pet bird
Some players: Well blizzard clearly want to redefine MM to be a sniper-solo with no pet

Why would the changes take the sniper out of the hunter? Lone Wolf is gone.

Use the entire context. They are reimagining how MM interacts with it’s pet in a unique way.

The blue post lays out why and so did I. Reread. I even put the part in bold and italics. The value here has reached it’s end if you can’t comprehend what’s being said. And that doesn’t mean I’m asking you to agree, just read and absorb the information that’s given. In very short terms, reimagining pets from a fantasy and gameplay POV.

reembracing pets doesn’t have to involve cutting MM off from the pets they chose to tame. the concept of a falconer spec is certainly a clever way to approach it, but it doesn’t hit that note of “a beast you have a bond with” like tamed pets do. it just irritates people from both the “i want a pet” and “i don’t want any pets” groups

there are other solutions. many have been suggested in this thread. you’ve even said you suggested some yourself, though i didn’t personally see them

I didn’t say they were taking whatever sniper attributes out. I said they are not envisioning MM hunter as a sniper WITHOUT A PET. The whole MM hunter doesn’t use a pet as a fantasy is gone with Lone Wolf.

You’re missing the question. The whole entirety of my post is: why? They haven’t said why they came up with this vs. using what we already had.

I don’t care about how they feel it’s unique and fantasy forward. I acknowledged they wanted to bring a pet back to MM due to LW and lust issues. Simply dumping LW solves that “discord” you went out of your way to highlight. I get all that. I am searching for the reason as to why they went out of their way to come up with their “unique and fantasy forward” pseudo pet.

They didn’t say that the pet is clunky and has pathing issues. That’s something players have mentioned.

They didn’t say they want players who want to channel their inner Legolas to be able to do so as an archer without a pet. Again, that something players here have come up with.

There is a reason they chose this over what came before, but they didn’t say what that reason is, and saying it’s unique and blah blah isn’t the actual reason.

I hardly think that taking their pets away and giving them a spell effect that looks like a bird is a very good way of doing that. I guess their ‘unique way’ is taking Ol Yeller out back and shooting him? Then giving the hunter the bird.
