Genuinely curious: how is MM supposed to be able to do any of these things without a pet? I don’t see how it’s possible design-wise.
Not having the option means not being forced to play it for the meta.
That was the hope. MM hunters being a viable and bursty class without being forced to take the pet for those purposes would have been amazing.
Because the pet is available, the community will force the pet. If there was no pet, then nothing to force.
Not having an option means you are forced on only one playstyle, like lol
“the hope was to remove my ability to stopping drinks, keeping healers in combat, defend flags and more, so i could not feel compelled to play with it cause im a metaslave”
well, that sure is a weird take
Every Rogue in existence would brick a hunter without a pet. Hunters would never be viable in PVP without a pet.
They finally listened and we’re still going on about pets instead of actual feedback. sigh
Ew. 10chars
Thank you so much for this!! This is all we wanted. Thanks for listening to player feedback!
Our whining beat your whining, so yeah.
It’s a perfectly reasonable take. Frost mages used to have a pet, fire didn’t, both were viable in expansions past. No one was forced to play frost because of pet.
I don’t want to be forced to play pet as it wouldn’t even be an option. I want to play a ranger type class, no pet to manage. I don’t understand how hard this is to comprehend.
If the pet is available, it will be forced, if it’s not, then the class can be balanced around not having it more carefully and thoughtfully.
Could Manhunter be changed so that it applies Mortal Wounds to NPCs? With pets being reintroduced, if you want to apply the debuff in PvE you’ll have to take out a pet that can apply it.
Getting concerned that all of the actual feedback threads got hijacked so much that people’s feedback on the spec itself is going to get ignored so:
-Trueshot is still extremely weak and needs help
-Aimed Shot still feels terrible because streamline having RNG factors as well as waiting game makes things very rigid and not smooth or “iconic” at all.
-Lock and Load is currently proccing an average of once every 1.5-2 minutes. That is just absurd.
-The spec overall is way too RNG heavy and way too sluggish.
-The amount of Haste that will be required to attempt to make things less rigid is going to be way too much than we can get next patch.
The talent tree itself is it’s own issue. A lot of bloat for no reason and a lot of things on there that shouldn’t be. Prime example - Trueshot takes 5 talent points and you have to take all of them to make it feel like a real cooldown. Why not just throw some of that into Trueshot baseline? Bullseye (execute) used to be 2 talent points and people told you it felt bad so you made it 1 point. Now for some reason it’s back to 2 points just to remove talent points from play. This makes no sense with how bloated the tree really is.
Thank you! This is great news. I’m perfectly happy with this and appreciate that our voices were heard.
I tried out the new MM on PTR. While admittedly it’s hard to take anything that happens in a tier 2 delve seriously…
It feels like the latter. He’s made of paper and designed to give healers something to do. He’s like a pet except you don’t direct him, so you have to take the opening shot and hope he picks up aggro. Maybe he’ll get better with curios, but his prospects at tier 11 aren’t looking good.
The rotation, which again, I only messed with in a tier 2 delve, doesn’t feel substantially different enough to warrant the loss of pets in a solo context. A few procs are different now, but you’re more or less hitting the same buttons. It’s not a new class by any stretch.
You don’t really have to go on PTR at all – just run a delve on live servers with your pet dismissed and you’ll get the same experience. I’d much rather have a pet whose growls I can direct over Brann who found a new job to be bad at.
Edit: I didn’t see that they’re actually bringing pets back. Vive la résistance.
Appearently enough people for them to decide to make this change.
A fantasy they didn’t try forcing on MM until Legion . Before that all specs had pets.
For open world content like questing or world quests and delves.
No one was asking for it for group content we know we are beter off without using a pet for dungeons and raids.
Yes please
You still won’t have to have a pet because all the utility a pet would give is given in the new build .
What the pet’s are now are meat shields for those that want to use them as pocket tanks in open world and delves.
In most if not all cases of group content going petless will always be better.
Just keep reposting until the pet talk is drowned out. Real feedback is needed than a subject that is over.
Hey right on!
This is the right move. Options are always best.
Good news. Thanks for listening.
Yeah headshot + Windrunner as dark ranger is my primary testing build for dark ranger PvP. Great talents in concept but two particular things hold them back:
- The eagle is never giving you spotters marks when you spend precise shots on kill shot or black arrow
- Travel time of aimed shot + randomness of procs invokes weird downtime in your flow/rotation because you don’t know if you’ll have a deathblow to spend precise shots on until the shot lands. People will end up scripting this like ele shaman last expansion if not changed.
If you look at the live bug list for dark ranger, 2 shares a very common theme with what’s already not working quite correctly with razor fragments and also the streamline overflow bug with explosive shot.
“Travel time?” What? Are you saying that Aimed Shot also travels at a different speed??
(Remember; it’s not feasible for me to download large files like the PTR until Jan 27 due to the circumstances of my work/housing, so I can’t check it out yet.)
