Feedback: Hunters

They said they are going to allow some sort of customization of the eagle, though it’s unclear if it’s coming in this patch or later.

I don’t think this is a problem. I mean, the eagle is hard to notice even when you are paying attention. It only really has a noticeable appearance when you call Hero/Lust. I never feel like the eagle hinders my archer/ranger fantasy.

There it is. The whining paid off. Pets are staying.

Greetings, hunters.

We appreciate your continued feedback on the Undermine(d) Marksmanship update. We recognize that there is a community of Marksmanship Hunters who wish to retain access to their pets. While Marksmanship’s unique Eagle pet will continue to be the source of their pet utility, such as Master’s Call, Bloodlust, and similar effects, we think it is only right that Marksmanship Hunters be able to continue to traverse Azeroth with their beloved companions.

In our next PTR build, there will be a choice node on Improved Spotter’s Mark called “Unbreakable Bond” that restores Call Pet and associated pet functionalities such as Mend Pet, Dismiss Pet, etc. Additionally, this talent will improve the durability and damage output of your pet to better compensate for the potential throughput loss.

Thank you for your continued feedback and commitment to the Hunter class, and we’ll see you in Undermine(d).

I think pets should of been optional cosmetic for MM.

Curious as to when Trueshot, Streamline, Lock and Load, and Aimed Shot are going to be addressed.

Given how PTRs like this have gone in the past i’d guess they go live as is and the spec is just a disaster continuing forward.

For the talent locations, I would option the following:

  1. Swap the Trick Shots/AotH choice node with the new Improved Spotter’s Mark/Unbreakable Bond choice node.
  2. Remove the left and right arrows leaving the Tenacious/Cunning (T&C) talent and add them to Master Marksman & Surging Shots so that the T&C talent can be bypassed. This reduces the Trueshot pre-requirement.

Well this will be interesting. If they make the pet a meatshield while its out, then I hope pathing issues will not come back for when people are doing dungeons etc.

As for MM hunters having pets out in lower dungeons, I disagree with it does not matter. When you are leveling, and people are doing those dungeons for the first time, it WILL matter because everyone being near the same level will need to PULL THEIR WEIGHT. A MM Hunter gimped by having their “tank” out will hurt the group. You cannot compare that to everyone having a Army of 80 alts geared and running low content because they are bored.

It only took them a month to address a non-issue in a way that still leaves some of the people crying unhappy.

I don’t think they need to develop special animations for the new abilities just for those with a pet out. The animations should just be disabled with an active pet. That way the ‘fantasy’ is retained as the eagle will not be visible at all, but the abilities and buffs will remain.

They never left.

The ability to change the eagle’s color or something won’t address my primary issue with it: I do not want an Eagle at all. TBH I really don’t want ANY flying pet, but some races do have thematically fitting flyers available if it were expanded beyond just Eagles (Owls for Night Elves, for example).

Everyone should have separate buildings for different content. Pets should only be used for Delves or Open-world type situations.

For everything else they should be using Spotter Eagle. The major requests for keeping pets was for a aggro focus, and Dungeons and Raids would not need that.

You aren’t going to be using your pet in any dungeon of any consequence.

This hasn’t been true for years. Levelling dungeons are a joke due to broken scaling. There is no need to pull your weight - you can smash your head into the keyboard or spam steady shot and still clear them without issue.

3rd time Blizzard considers going full petless MM, 3rd time it allows pets back before it goes live.

But this one is different: they finally reinvented the spec in a way that you get full utility without the need for the pet. That means the spec has a path forward, with the pet choice being like going 1-pet for BM, an optional mode. This means we are no longer trying to balance two opposing options, and that’s awesome.

At this point why not just leave all of the utility on the pet and not make marks spend any talent points on pet related stuff? Bm and sv keep summon pet and their related passives without spending talent points. Feels like the solution to one problematic talent point is now two mandatory talent points.

I don’t think it will be just eagles, or at least I hope we will be able to choose between any pet in your stable with an elligible model. However, I don’t think they’ll allow no spotter pet at all.

Yes, but a lot of people don’t know that. Which is why you see barrage hunters in LFR.

This is only an issue if the talent points require you to spend more than you were going to otherwise.

You were always going to taken Improved Spotting Mark. There was never any other choice, because that is the only way to get to Trueshoot, which is your main damage CD for the entire spec. The difference is, if you want your pet - you’re takeing Unbreakable Bond. If you don’t want a pet, you’re taking Improved Spotting Mark.

When you’re in leveling dungeons there isn’t much opportunity to even get an aimed shot off so you’re already disadvantaged. I don’t think it’ll matter much.
