Is Brann tank viable for non-healers? Or do you just stand there trying to gun down the enemies before he dies in every pull?
If they’d just let the green vendors in MoP scale up to level 70 the problem would be solved. I dunno why they don’t. Surely they don’t genuinely think people are going to gear up at the auction house? Every item on there is like 11,000 gold or something similarly absurd. A new toon or account generally can’t interact with the AH at all. Hell, I’ve been playing for years and I can only occasionally even look at it sideways.
This is really underselling the matter, IMO.
We shouldn’t underestimate the power that cosmetics and transmog holds in this game — and I’m lumping pets into this category, because it’s a form of customization.
We really should not underestimate this.
I have many alts, including multiple hunters. On this main, it’s my tan wolf Howler. I don’t want an eagle!
My Forsaken Hunter runs dark hounds. I don’t want an eagle on that toon!
My Troll Hunter runs raptors. I don’t want an eagle on that toon!
My Pandaren Hunter runs cloud serpents. You think I want an eagle on her? No!
This point is not addressed enough. Celodi is correct — players who don’t follow news or PTR will absolutely go bananas upon logging on and discovering that their handpicked pets are gone, replaced by an eagle that only appear occasionally.
A lie. Exhilaration has a 2min CD, and reduces by 1s for ever 10 focus spent. (1.5s talented).
So to reduce it to 1 minute CD (putting it on par with Alter Time) - that is 600 focus, or 400 talented. Focusing just on the talented version, it’ll be 80s to get it under 1 minute. With Steady Shot, it goes up to 15 focus/s - or 27s to generate enough focus. Then another 15s to burn that all with arcane shot.
So it takes 42s to get Exhilaration to have a 60s CD. There’s some play in there based on haste, procs, where your focus was when you press it. But to claim it is a 0s CD is mathematically impossible. It’s also important to note, that’s a defensive that BM and SV also have and they also have pets.
SotF has a 2m (1.5m talented) CD as well, with a max of 2 charges. And again, BM and SV have the same access to this talent, and still have a pet.
So… nothing unique to MM, and those other two specs still have increased survivability due to pets.
I genuinely hope and think that youare correct on this.
Oh they’re not even going to notice the eagle that’s supposed to be a replacement, either. The article about it is pure hot air: it is NOT a centerpiece of the design. If you’re not already looking for it, you’ll never realize it even exists.
It will be this. Brannk is only viable for classes that can provide external heals. Hunter is not one of those classes.
You cannot turn off specialization, nor can you ‘unspend’ talents. You must use all talents you have available.
I would have to test on the PTR if MM can use Brann’s tank spec. Otherwise, MM will have to keep aggro on Brann and use healing spec, or they will be face tank some elites.
Zekvir shows how Hunter handle without their pet to hold aggro.
Zekvir is hard coded to kill pets that are tanking. He bypasses their mitigation - BM is handicapped fighting him.
If you make a brand new character and you never spend any talents will it still let you technically play the game?
Zekvir is also immune to traps and stuns, and kitting is very difficult that way. MM will require more CC use than pet specs.
The main purpose of keeping a pet for MM is just a aggro holder. If that was the only thing pets were left for it would be fine.
Yes, AFAIK. Though it’ll be quite hard and you will be significantly weaker than otherwise.
And in content where it needs such CC, using it is often not an option. The candlelit or poison air delves, for example, would be pointless for using CC.
Yeah I think you’d only get two abilities at all with no talents right now and pet, but obviously talents are going to change and the pet may not be available next patch
So yeah MM just doesn’t get to do delves now, in all likelihood. It’s a pure dungeon/raid spec. This sucks.
MM will just take more time to finish higher delves, and require more patient pulling. You’ll need to think about what you will pull, and carefully not over pull mobs.
Also learn the manics of bosses before just rushing in.
Players will be using MM cause they want a challenge.
how do you think every other spec without a pet does delves?
In this climate, people will gravitate towards the easiest options 9/10.
Ele shamans, Boomkins, Spriests all can heal themslves.
Mages have more defensives and better ones.
So, y’know - different kits, different methods.
Pet is available currently on PTR - so you can keep up the fantasy of not BM, but yeah… you’re not going to be able to be MM with a pet as it is.
I’ve been able to do Rank 8-9 delves with petless MM and healer Brann on live. Only the bosses and some of the Zekvir minions are really a challenge (some bosses are really hard, however). Doing it as MM requires extra work, but I find it very rewarding, it’s like I’m mf’ing Legolas. When I feel lazy I’ll go Survival, however.
I find that soloing things as petless MM is mostly a learned skill. When I was experiencing BM in the PTR, I was having more trouble to kill mobs in Siren Isle storm mode than as MM, that’s how much I got used to not have a pet out. It’s habit, you adapt if you try it enough.
The key with MM is planning the pulls. You need to free up space to kite, you trap enemies to avoid being overwhelmed, you use CDs early to cause as much damage as possible to thin out numbers at the beginning, you use Concussive Shot and Steady Shot to keep enemies slowed, you intimidate or bind shot a target for a few seconds of free DPS, and so on. Oh, and you need to learn when to stop and cast Aimed Shot, because you need to move a lot.
Sometimes you die and learn from it. It’s just like that.
