That’s not the issue with his comment. It’s the PoC bit.
To start, I think Herald of the Sun is well-designed and all the nodes seem to fit nicely into the core concept and flavor of this hero class. I also agree with many above that it would be nice to see some of the Azerothian sun dieties mentioned.
However, I have a core issue with Herald of the Sun and specifically about how it fits into Holy Paladin gameplay. WoW currently has 3 healers that are focused on Healing over Time, 2 priest specs that still utilizing HoTs quite a bit, and only 2 specs - Resto Shaman and Holy Paladin - that generally focus more on direct healing. To me, Holy Paladin has always felt quite unique within WoW because of its lack of HoT and I am concerned that Herald of the Sun is a big step towards homogenizing Holy in that regard. While it may not be numerically significant, it seems that this is a big step in gameplay towards managing Glimmers and Sunspots and Eternal Flames.
I mainly bring this up here because I would like the choice to play Lightsmith remain as an alternative to this HoT-style gameplay. I fear that players who have enjoyed Holy Paladin gameplay throughout Dragonflight (myself included) are being forced to chose between 2 talent trees which both have drastic gameplay implications.
+1 from me
Instead of ‘echo of the sun’ like I previously stated maybe they could rename Sunspots to ‘Echo of An’she’? Or ‘Presence of An’she’? There’s plenty they could do with renaming sunspots in general but renaming it to be something An’she related would be nice for the people who want it. It does make sense as well.
Different strokes different folks. Mechanics are cool but I also like my rpg’s for their fantasy stuff as well as cool gameplay. Especially with the stated aims of expanding class fantasies Ion said they wanted hero specs to do.
Been in love with sun walkers and Anshe since cata, be nice to get more than some crumbs and a mention in a kids book.
As neat as Herald of the sun is I think to balance the “Chosen of Elune” hero talents, (no pun intended), I think Herald of the sun being named “Herald of An’she” or “Chosen of An’she” or at least that last part “Avatar of An’she” would be pretty nice to have a nod towards the Sunwalkers since it’s very sun themed.
Tauren Paladins are called Sunwalkers in the lore, so this is clearly based of off them. Also a touch of Blood elf in there.
That’s valid
I’m laughing because Sun spot, and its effects- are lifted almost entirely whole, from Destiny 2’s Titan subclass SUNbreaker.
Like points to them for being kinda clever with the copy but it’s also hilarious they just copied the whole thing
Why is there not a single mention of An’she in these?
Tauren Paladins Worship the Sun outright.
Which begs the question as to why An’She isn’t mentioned at all.
I agree sunspot isn’t necessarily the best term.
Personally, I’d prefer they rename other stuff, like the “Chosen of Elune” hero talents. In the Druid Balance talent tree, it kinda makes sense, since Moonkin are referred to as the “chosen of Elune” and have been for 10,000 years. But even then, not all Balanace Druids are Moonkin. “Moon’s Chosen” would work better, be more all-inclusive.
As a non-Tauren, “An’she” doesn’t mean anything. Just like a Zandalari Troll would have very little interest in anything Elune.
Herald of An’she would actually be a pretty sick name now that I’m saying it out loud.
If not that, then at least change some of the spell names to reflect An’she. Maybe turn Sunspot into An’She’s Wrath or something to that effect.
EDIT: Actually rereading the talents with a focus on ret this time…this is actually part of what I wanted from Paladins, at the very least. I’ll still be doing my usual rotation and the like, but with a added bonus of passive healing off of the Sunspots. While not as super support oriented like Augvoker is, it does fit, at least my desired fantasy of helping the group stay alive by throwing spot heals when necessary, and doing passive healing while continuing to do damage.
I like it.
Better ask blizzard to stop homogenization of factions
-
Herald of the Sun or other to Alliance
-
Herald to Anshe to Horde
-
Choosen of Elune to Alliance
-
Choosen of the moon to Horde
Same with the Mountain Thane
Becuz i guess it’s for ALL paladins and not ALL paladins are taught that particular sun in the sky is the Light.
First impressions of the tree are good (my perspective is hpal).
Linking sunspots to prism feels strange? This implies talent changes because linking a hero spec kit to an optional talent feels weird so I assume it will be going baseline, or at the very least be uncoupled from lights hammer.
Herald of the sun NEEDS to mention An’she. Please by the warmth of his fuzzy sun touched fur. You need to add some Troll/Tauren lore to these talents.
Herald of the Sun needs to be renamed or have mention of An’she instead and a lot of the abilities need to have some mention of An’she too. It only makes since lorewise.
spec looks cool to me, but playtesting will be required before any good feedback related to systems.
Give us An’she representation or give us death. we have so many references to Elune and other Elvish lore, let the Sunwalkers and Tauren be vindicated and given a W.
I find myself disappointed that An’she doesn’t show up here, like, at all. They’re a well-known solar deity. If we get Elune, why can’t tauren players finally get some representation too?
