Feedback: Herald of the Sun Paladin in The War Within

Please mention An’she, including in the name itself

I don’t understand the cultural thematic inconsistency: druid hero specs explicitly name Elune though not all Druids worship or even care about Elune across all the races, other specs are “Elf” based (eg Dark Ranger)

Throw Tauren a bone

just look at the potential

I will take a crumb at this point.

its been 14 years since cata gave us Sunwalkers and Anshe…and nothing since lol

as much as i dislike “name fantasy” i do find it weird that the hero tree named “herald of the sun” lacks alot of anshe mentions. but ultimately doesnt really matter to me as much as it matters to others. if anything goes to show how good these trees are when the only solid feedback is “naming”

Echoing what some others have said in here: from a class fantasy perspective, literally invoking the sun of Azeroth without mentioning the deity that that sun is feels very strange.

If Hero Talents are meant to offer the player a choice to express character fantasy, then I would ask that more care be given to diversifying the themes of Hero Talents. In this case, Herald of the Sun should have explicit references to the solar entities in the Warcraft setting like An’she, Rezan, Shirvallah, or Rukhmar.

Really think there should be some mention or inspiration from Sunwalkers/Anshe considering how Elune is central to one of the Druid Hero Talent sets, and other Talent sets also have clear racial theming like Dark Rangers and Mountain Thanes.

Tauren have been the Sun-tied paladins forever, they should at least be a little represented by the Talent Tree.

Same for Light Forger and Draenei.

Herald of the Sun should be renamed to Herald of Anshe
Anshe is directly related to Tauren Paladins, and if druids can have Elune, paladins deserve Anshe

Decent tree overall.

  • Light’s Hammer should also trigger Sunspot, don’t know why it’s Holy Prism only.

  • Love that Eternal Flame is back, but it seems a bit lacking in synergy. Maybe have the HoT act as a Sunspot, merging the two buffs?

  • Right side is really boring, though 10% more crit for Holy Shock is nice. Would rather have some nodes that give these spells (Hammer of Wrath, Divine Storm, Holy Shock, Light of Dawn) a bit of interaction with Sunspot.

Favorite Paladin tree so far; can’t wait to see the visual of solar beams connecting me and my allies.

Herald of the sun seems alright mechanically? wake of ashes again prob isn’t gonna be great feeling for ret considering its not a baseline ability so theyre just always grabbing it. But is it really too much to have it be an’she themed? the sun god of the tauren whos responsible for I think 2/3 of the taurens class fantasy. Why was this made very generic and attached to nothing previously(Not even like, the arcane sunwell of the elves even? wouldnt be good but it would be something) . We know that these hero talents are meant to give flavor but if its not attached to any fantasy it’s not going to land for flavor. And with mountain thane and chosen of elune we know that theres not an issue of race limiting the hero talent because those are dwarf and night elf respectively.

You don’t want to use a super hard hitting, visually pleasing, holy power generator that is on a 30 sec cooldown? Maybe ret isn’t for you then. That one spell alone makes the class much more fluid to play so I’m wondering why you wouldn’t want to run it?

From the looks of things you barely play ret as it is so maybe it’s a yes, shelve it.

This is going to be a small piece of feedback not oriented around gameplay:

The name ‘Sunspot’ is honestly not great imo. It reminds me of someone being out in the sun too long and getting like a blotch of their skin sun damaged lol. Minor complaint but that name just doesn’t hit, doesn’t sound very cool. Overall think the tree looks great, can’t wait to try it out.

Just spitballing, but I agree. Sunspots should be replaced.

It’s bad enough they’re adding mechanics to these (they should be solely cosmetic) but for the love of all things on Azeroth…

FIX Herald of the Sun!

It NEEDS to be An’she themed and if you’re not you need to fix Chosen of Elune and.make it just generic Moon themed.

Stop with your bad, inherently racist worldbuilding.

Why can’t you just show a modicum of respect to the races you based off PoC?

It’s constant and exhausting.

Holy crap…

I say this with as much respect as possible, shut the hell up. Don’t bring this garbage into the thread

Agree ^. Obviously they are not doing anything offensive here and they are not designing the entire game/hero tree around any of that. Herald of the Sun is more related to the new Arathi offshoot we are going to have in TWW anyway, not really based around Tauren even though it is sun themed. These are also not spec/racial skins, so it is not really based on any race in particular, most of them aren’t at least.

They could definitely put something for An’she on here, I mean sunspots can straight up be renamed to “Echo of An’she” but making this about PoC and acting all offended is crazy. Wild that people will look for anything to upset themselves over, I assume its just trolling though but if its not imagine trying to use being offended to leverage getting what you want for hero talents.

Sparks of Light and Divine Spark would be good, definitely better than Sunspot.

I was thinking something like ‘Echo of the Sun’ as it still fits the sun theme. Plenty of things they can do here though lol.

It’s valid criticism, people clearly want An’she, most of the other classes have race specific stuff, it only makes sense Tauren players would want the sun themed Hero talents to at the very least have some mention of the sun god. It’s not a big ask.

that wasnt the thing he was talking about, he was point out the twitter esc rant about nonexistent ingame racism

Ret pvp perspective:
Sunspots-largest concerns. Will it be dispellable or have backlash? I hope it is not dispellable. Sunspots needs a new name, gives images of sun damaged skin, possibly skin cancer.

Solar Grace-feels good interaction providing better feeling gameplay as combat goes on and applied passivly. Chefs Kiss

Luminosity-Crit strike chance of Judgment would be better than Hammer of Wrath. Ret has Hammer of Wrath only critical striking from its Class talent capstone already unless that will be gone in War Within.

Illumine-best news I’ve heard all day, love love love this.

Aurora-second best news I’ve heard all day.

Not enough Single target or defensive interactions in the Herald of the Sun tree if Empyrean Hammer from Templar is dispellable. Sunspots also should not be dispellable.

Sun’s Avatar-very interested to see this in practice for pvp. I would imagine, with enough sunspots sending beams to where the caster has Avenging Wrath active, nearby enemies clicking a flag in pvp will be repeatedly interupted. Also, if tuning of Divine Storm is a viable way to inflict damage in pvp, this Hero tree becomes pvp viable, causing Ret to be even better at area denial.

I was surprised not to see some ability that does damage and moves us to our target.

As for both Hero Talent trees, they could be used to pick up the slack in areas Retribution lacks in pvp, although it is more appropriate to have that done with pvp talents. If this thread could reach those responsible for pvp, Ret could use compensation for not having an MS effect, instant mobility, effective self healing in our damage rotation, a disarm, a spell reflect, knockback/fear protection outside of a 5min CD that is removed early and applys Forbearance, stealth, abducting whole groups of people and relocating them to another place of our choosing, or taking someone with us to the shadow realm for a dual while in group content.
