Two pieces of feedback with regard to the Galactic Voidslivers PVP ilvl 298 gearing system added in 12.0.5:
First, there appears to be neither documentation nor discoverability of the system. The systems-side basics of how to obtain critical PVP equipment should at least be described in the patch documentation (i.e., the basic existence of this gearing system, what activities reward the currency items, etc.) There’s no documentation, no quest NPCs, no tooltips, no UI elements that show anything about the existence of Galactic Voidslivers, let alone how to attain them, beyond (apparently) stumbling into them when performing a Rated PVP match.
Second, it feels very distasteful to attempt to coerce Rated PVP play as the sole pathway available in order to attain competitive PVP gear for play in non-Rated PVP segments. That’s a frankly outmoded way of PVP gearing that had gone by the wayside many years ago. Rated PVP should stand on its merits, and not as an (effectively, as all gearing for PVP is) necessity in order to be able to be on a level playing ground for non-Rated PVP segments.
[I personally don’t see any problem with Rated PVP having its own exclusive rewards. Where it becomes problematic is when those rewards are required to have a similarly competitive gearing profile in non-Rated PVP. Attempting to force players that truly don’t want to play Rated PVP to do so in order to get their PVP gear, as the only PVP gear pathway, is not likely to make those players enjoy Rated PVP nor want to come back to play Rated PVP in the future.]
When you read the tooltip it doesn’t say “rated battlegrounds,” it just says “battlegrounds.” I can’t help but think it’s yet another bug. If NOT, blizz should change the text to read “rated battlegrounds.”
Apart from that, is there any prerequisite? Were we supposed to be doing some PvE stuff beforehand in order for this PvP item to randomly start dropping? lol
It would’ve made a lot more sense to allow the items to be earnable via a quest format over several weeks. Similar to the win 4 battlegrounds quest or something where there are options for both rated and unrated so people can play the modes they prefer.
They made sure everyone new about the PvE version of this though haha.
What they should have done is just increase the PvP ilevel on PvP gear automatically, like they did in TWW when they did this midseason then. Stop with these engagement farm RNG systems. If you want people to PvP, fix all the things wrong with the outdated PvP systems lol.

The company rewards participants in rating modes to encourage activity
Another disgruntled noob: THEY’RE FORCING ME TO DO WHAT I DON’T WANT
Dude, then why the hell should anyone listen to you about this? If you don’t want to do it, go do what you want and don’t cry.
Before, you were crying about equipment requiring a rating, now you’re crying about equipment requiring just playing ranked mode. My God, aren’t you ashamed of yourself? Pure weakness.
Or at the very least, if it’s going to be pure RNG why not let them drop form unrated too?
Assuming it’s not a bug, the reason they’ve done it this way is to bolster participation in their bad rated PvP system. They can say “participation is up!” and pat themselves on the back or check a box for upper management, not caring that the increase is from people doing it for the slivers, not because they actually want to play the mode.
I’d kind of get it if there was a legitimately high rating requirement attached to reward the ‘best’ rated players. But what it’s rewarding is playing the content they want you to play, and on top of that it’s RNG. lol
