Feedback: Epic Battlegrounds

Wintergrasp. The offensive tactic at the start is to rush the defenders and pick up kills asap just to make any rank. It’s not very exciting, just a massive, braindead zerg rush to tag enemies for credit on kills. That zerg rush could be changed. Give the attackers some advantage going onto that zerg rush to make the defenders think twice about standing there in Sunken Ring. Maybe attackers could start with a buff. Defenders would be cautious and hide but…if the npc’s were buffed greatly and we could get corporal rank from killing them then the defenders would have to come out. Since there are npc’s spread out, it would potentially disperse the zerg and promote some pvp while players try and prevent attackers from killing npcs.
Make npcs give credit but needing 5 players to kill. Maybe give attackers a temporary dmg buff so player pvp is also useful.

Someone was telling me they just fish in WG. Maybe have fish five debuff.

In IoC, glaive health needs to be increased. It’s obnoxiously easy to destroy them and it should be as tough to destroy a glaive as it is to destroy a demo.

I have yet to win Wintergrasp while attacking. I have yet to lose Wintergrasp while defending. Anyone else?

It has gotten to the point where WG queue popping in the Random Epic BG queue is just a laughable moment in chat of “lol, gg” regardless of whether or not we’re attacking or defending, except the tone behind the words. If you’re defending, it is free honor, and if you’re attacking, it is better to take the 15min Deserter buff.

Please make attacking have more of an actual shot at winning, or create some sort of “mercy rule” for defending, where defense can win some way other than exhausting the timer. You have to have the statistics on your side already, and I’ll bet anything that defending is 90%+ winning, which means each game is a massive slog.

Same before I started just afking out of attacking I never won or even really came close enough to feel we could have won. Defending never lost or came remotely close.

exactly! 100%

Yeah, Korrak’s, where the horde NPCs "accidentally " had twice the health of Alliance NPCs until the last five days of the event last year.
BTW, we pointed it out almost TWO WEEKS before they fixed it.
They should have extended it and given Alliance NPCs twice the health for the same amount of time the horde had that benefit.

So now that we are 2 months into Shadowlands, it seems like a good time for some random feedback…

Please “sticky” this thread

Recently I took a peek over into the EU forums (mostly for entertainment purposes/checking for Wintergrasp threads), and I noticed that their “Feedback: Epic Battlegrounds” thread is properly stickied on the front page.

The EU thread has 142 replies and 8.2k views as of this writing… the US thread has 1566 replies and 32.3k views. I’m not sure why the US thread is not stickied like the EU one, but it should be.

Bring back the “battlegrounds box"

Unfortunately, trying to farm the Mark of Honor currency is now significantly slower than it was during BFA - and maybe also Legion. Winning a battleground match in Shadowlands only rewards 1 (…one…) Mark of Honor, and 0 for a loss.

A simple fix for this would be to just bring back the “battlegrounds box” that dropped at the end of battleground matches in BFA. It was always nice to get a little bit of gold (~75 for a loss, ~200 for a win), a random PvP consumable (Saltwater Potion, Rack of Ribs, etc) and a Mark of Honor (or two) even for a loss during BFA.

You can just leave out the heaps of inventory-clogging fish/meat this time, if casuals were complaining about that before (I didn’t mind it myself :man_shrugging: ).

On the topic of new battlegrounds

I would like to see Packed House and Southshore vs Tarren Mill added as permanent bg maps in their respective categories (regular bgs/epic bgs). Both are objective-less battlegrounds that fill the “team deathmatch” niche perfectly.

Speaking personally, Southshore vs Tarren Mill is the only bg I play during the weeks that it’s up - I never get bored of it. It is strangely addicting/fun to just slog it out in a giant teamfight :yum:

If ion decides against the idea of adding new bg maps for Shadowlands, I feel like the least he could do is make brawls an “every week” thing instead of a once-every-other-week thing (allowing us to play these fun maps more often).

Honor Level rewards need an update

Currently, honor level rewards “cap out” at honor level 500 - there are no further rewards beyond this number. As more and more players hit honor level 500, they no longer have anything to work towards. The rewards structure is showing it’s age and needs to be made more futureproof.

Recommended solution: increase the honor level rewards “cap” to honor level 1000, with an appropriate reward to go with it (whether it’s a mount, unique title, feat of strength, etc)

I feel like upping the rewards cap to honor level 1000 would keep bg’ers happy (…and busy) for years to come. Always having a “carrot on a stick” to work towards is essential to an MMORPG, and this is one overlooked area where it’s missing.

Bring back the “time elapsed” tracker

This is more of a minor request, but I would like to see the “time elapsed” tracker added back onto the bg scoreboard.

Having the match duration displayed on the scoreboard is standard in most multiplayer games, so I’m not sure why it was removed here. It’s just nice information to have, and should be included on the scoreboard.

On the topic of blacklist

The WoW community/general public has been quite vocal about this particular issue recently - most players want it back. I feel like allowing us the option to block just 1 bg would be sufficient/make most players happy. Doesn’t need to be 2, doesn’t need to be 3… just 1.

If the lower battleground queue times (when compared to BFA) are any indication, Shadowlands battlegrounds participation is significantly higher than it was during BFA. Probably high enough to accommodate a blacklist option without negatively affecting queue times much (if at all).

That’s all for now. Now it’s back to the usual Monday night chores

Not sure why, but I was just thinking back to this thread… nostalgia maybe? idk

With the recent changes to consumables and a new BG being announced for the next expansion, maybe just maybe the blues are lurking this board once again…

If they are, it would be nice if one of them could maybe pop in here and say something (anything?). This is a blue-sponsored thread anyways, I’m surprised it got “abandoned” like it did

These 40-man epic BG maps still have balance problems here and there. While it’s nice that they’re working on a new BG it’s also important that the existing BG maps also get some attention/fine-tuning to address the common complaints

Can we do something about the Alliance’s ability to always get to the Hanger first. Almost every IOC I play, the Alliance is in the process of capping the flag.

Nice necro, Mr. Zug.

Yeah, epic BGs are becoming more and more snoozerific, imo largely due to lack of tuning and much-needed adjustments, e.g. balancing of Hangar terrain in IoC.

I don’t think i’ll be playing that much longer if nothing changes.

Can Blizzard do something about Wintergrasp too? Im not sure what can actually be done, but imthe match basically comes down to taking control of the Sunken Ring workshop. Whoever wins that first skirmish to hold the Sunken Ring usually ends up steam rolling the other team for the rest of the match.

Yeah the Hanger issues always gets to me. It feels so busted that the alliance has a more direct path to the flag. If i could have one thing fixed in the BGs. THIS would be it.

AV towers would be my second wish. Alliance has a much easier time LOS’ing the tower gaurds and capping the flags than the Horde does in the bunkers.

this topic is from 2018, that’s 5 years ago…

I like how all the changes to supposedly improve our experience were just added to make matches longer.

45 minutes of losing to a team with more healers than you sure is epic. Matchmaking is what needs fixing.

Isle of Conquest

  1. Alliance choke point on the hill up to hangar preventing any route to flag, and/or targeting of players taking flag. Distance is out of range from hill for Horde players to attack.
  2. Alliance airship can hit the hangar flag.
  3. Alliance airship can hit workshop partially.
  4. Alliance airship can still fire on workshop, hangar flag, and keep gates even after loss of control of the hangar. Sometimes the Airship is still circling due to players staying on the guns.
  5. Glaives are extremely weak and in desperate need of a buff. Docks are obsolete as of now.
  6. Bombs are still negligible.
  7. Players can still glide down from keep to minor peak above “Horde” spot for glaives and destroy them before being engaged by ranged players. Melee cannot hit them.

Alterac Valley

  1. Towers vs. Bunkers need addressing. Towers have walls that prevent the Horde guards from hitting flag turners, whereas bunkers are open and the Alliance guards can strike the flag turners. Horde players shouldn’t have to find the “Sweet spot” to be able to turn a flag without being struck by arrows.
  2. Turning flags from the ground level and/or rooftop in Stonehearth and Icewing bunkers needs to be fixed.
  3. Arrival at Snowfall Graveyard is a couple seconds ahead of arriving at Stonehearth Graveyard. May not seem like a lot but 2 seconds is quite a head start for a forward graveyard to resurrect from.

Sounds like a cry me a river kind of scenario

Horde towers are so small that a substantially bigger alliance group can be wiped by a much smaller horde group by just throwing random aoe damage and cc in there. not to mention a lock can just port everyone out the same cannot be done with bunkers.

Horde can get to alliance bunkers before we can their towers simply due to the way the map is designed and it used to be a whole lot more tilted for horde as you can see with korraks.

It’s also a lot easier to knock people out of the bunkers than it is the towers another advantage for horde.

Ioc yeah probably needs some changes

this post being dug up makes me cry. remember when blues hung out in pvp forums? i 'member…
