Feedback / Discussion about Sod, specially next patch

Hello, heres my feedback / discussion about the topic, specially with the new announcements and all I have been seeing in the forums, discords and whatnots.

Blizzard is yet again, like they did with the previous phase and I would argue, the one before it too (so MC and BWL patches), adding “new content” to SoD.
The new content is just the raid, sure, theres new mechanics, its no longer the original size and they are adding some heroic / mythic mode to it, heat in MC, trials in BWL, attempts from ulduar/togc/icc in AQ.

Here is what i tried pointing out / asking in the annoucement post that people keep just telling me to stop playing SoD because of it:
where is the stuff you promissed like karazhan crypts?
where are the new dungeons that were datamined ?
where are the new runes?
where are the new pvp bgs, arenas, world events, anything?

Why are you making an annoucement about content for just raiders yet again, and for example, not allowing everyone to get the black qiraji mount this time, its a seasonal server, its going to be deleted anyways, let everyone have some content outside of just raiding

And my last point: why do people on forums are either engaging with the post giving their feedback(from what ive seen, mostly negative) or just attacking whoever is giving feedback?
Can you guys not see that if blizzard is only adding mythic modes to raids yet again, and its optional as you love to yell about, where does the entire rest of the playerbase go? what do pvpers do? what people that pug do?
“oh just get in a guild, just play the game as a job under a schedule, just get gooder”
What if i dont want to do that? Classic WoW and SoD under the pretense that it was a testing ground for classic +, was supposed to be a casual friendly, for fun thing, if i wanted mythic raiding i would play retail
the whole point is that there should be more to the game than high end raiding, and you should be encouraging more things around so that we get more players to have more fun in a videogame, not telling everyone “just quit bro” instead

maybe go look at the roadmap?

how many times has it been changed ? they couldnt stick to it even for cata which is already just copy paste stuff from years ago, imagine about sod which is supposed to have brand new stuff
can we have a discussion about what should be / what we want in sod instead of condescending stuff?
also the last sod content roadmap that i could find only has “end game content updates”, literally nothing else

Season of Discovery has done nothing but bring me down as a person. everyday i come in here and all you do is tear me down insult me hurt me with your words and do nothing but harm me emotionally physically mentally and I just can’t take it any longer SoD is so abusive and toxic it’s crazy. no one even realizes how disgusting all of your behaviors are. every single time I talk or type or even do anything or interact with anyone in SoD everybody just goes against me and gangs up on me like a pack of wolves and just attacks me and i didn’t do anything to deserve these attacks and these hurtful words. i literally just try to be nice to everybody but nobody ever wants to be in my shoes and nobody ever tries to sympathize with me and see where I’m coming from all of you just see me as the enemy and as the bad guy that’s trying to ruin SoD or something when really I’m just trying to spread positivity. you guys act like I’m some kind of virus or disease, constantly casting me out so much, making me feel so left out and so alone in SoD. it’s driving me insane I feel mental and I feel like a weirdo just being around all of you because of how you treat me. at this point in time, I’ve given up on ever trying again and ever becoming any of your friends because I just know your feelings towards me clearly. i know all of you hate me and never want to be around me again or never have anything to do with me. it’s clear that you all think I’m a joke and that I’m stupid, idiotic and boring. it’s so mean because I literally don’t do anything to you guys but you guys always act like you hate me and it makes me feel so confused because I don’t know what I did to deserve it. I feel like I should just leave because clearly nobody wants to be around me and everyone would be happier if i left anyways so i’ll just go and i hope all of you find happiness in life and i’m sorry for all the troubles i’ve ever put any of you through. i give up. goodbye.

i dont understand the point of this reply but your guild name checks out for a good explanation

  1. Yes, they are indeed informing us that the next major patch will be deploying. why wouldn’t they? would you prefer they not and why would you prefer they not?

  2. they are testing new challenge modes likely for future development which is why on each patch the challenge type has been different for each raid. theyve been pretty open about SoD being a test bed.

  3. -karazhan is probably going to be post naxx as the staff to teleport there is a nax legendary
-At least some of the dungeons were used in the bwl class weapon quests shadow hall was used in rogue, andorhal was used in paladin, and barrows for druid.
    -they didnt promise new runes
-they didnt promise new bgs or events for every phase

  4. its still an iteration of classic wow. raiding is the endgame and what the bulk of the population plays. thus, the focus. pvp will still be there and the reward for pvp is beating your opponent If you are just grinding your pvp rank/gear then quitting you arent a pvper. there’s also development time and resources to consider. New bgs take forever to develop, even in retail TWW bg is the first in 6 years and blizzard is notoriously bad at balancing them…like the wall jump is still in wsg.

5)SOD is casual friendly. outside an overtuned erankris in the first 2 weeks of phase 3 everything has been 100% puggable. even the “mythic modes” in sod are on the level of duty finder difficulty in retail. they stated they were designing raids to be completed by the 50 percentiles not the bottom(or top) of the player base. which theyve basically delivered on. perhaps you are just that bad at the game?

  1. people are telling you to quit because MMOs require some form of time investment and player interaction. youre not asking for casual you are asking for handouts that is likely why you are getting push back. If you cant invest literally the 2 hours a week to raid quitting is good advice as your time is probably better spent elsewhere.

  2. they arent interested in increasing the player count. SoD season is almost done. there is literally 1 maybe 2 more phases after the AQ40 phase. its data acquisition for what comes next.

your post just comes off as a whine post

youre the first to actually engage on what i said instead of just telling me to quit the game, and i thank you for that

i never asked for handouts, i just pointed out that i didnt like a system that just punishes people that are not heavily invested, mainly pugs for example

but let me address you like you did me

  1. i would prefer that they announced everything or had a voting system like OSRS, not just the high end raiding content thing
  2. ok, i agree with you on that, i just gave feedback that i didnt like the attempt system back in wrath retail, back in wrath classic and i wouldnt like it here in sod either
  3. they didnt “promisse” anything then, what are we supposed to expect? just classic with reitemized stuff what we got while leveling since no runes, bgs, events since we got to 60? why is the endgame updates just focused on raiding when every other phase it wasnt, im not asking for a new bg every phase, but we havent gotten a single pvp update since bloodmoon dropped in p2, you can “count” the blackrock one in pvp servers but ive never seen it happen in a pve server for example
  4. sure, but theres more to the game than just that, and as i gave my feedback, why dont we try something that we actually never did before like “positive affixes” that make the players more powerful instead of reskinning mythic plus or the wrath heroic attempt system, they already tried that before, i assume nobody really liked it since they stopped doing it entirely
  5. i have to disagree with you on that, most pugs still cannot clear sunken temple to this day, you never see pugs doing heat 3, at most heat 2 on mc, pugs also skip black trial on bwl, thats my biggest point, if you are adding content just for the high end of raiders and alts / pugs cannot do it, dedicated guilds dont even notice the new additions because they clear stuff fast and efficiently, can we not ask for a change or something else?
go check my logs if you want to claim im bad at the game, this was never about me, im in a guild, i do all that stuff people are “accusing” me of not doing and asking for handouts instead
  6. well, check above
  7. so heres where the big point is, and i guess thats the best piece i have read in a while, maybe that is why giving feedback on what they do is met with such hostility, not being interested in increasing player count. I assumed every patch was made to make the game better and attract more players, to do more things, to have more fun, i guess i was assuming wrong and i should apologize for it.

how would i give feedback, specially that i dont like certain things, without “whining” ?
all i can do is either play the game silently or quit?

I have to wonder if since they’re pulling the trigger on classic +, if they decided to shelf all that content for that instead of the seasonal server. At least that’d explain the content drought, but I don’t know if that’s actually the case.

That would be my best bet too, but at the same time, wouldnt that be a really bad call, since sod has lost an insane amount of players since the p3 fiasco and people would just not have faith to come back to classic+ since the test was bad already to begin with?

Possibly, but at the same time, WoW always has an ability to pull people back one way or another. It’s a very unique experience in what you get, so packing up your bag and going somewhere else isn’t likely to get you anything remotely similar except maybe a private server.

I think a good amount of the population probably held off on SoD anyways since it was tagged with seasonal. An actual classic + would likely draw in some people who didn’t want to bother with a temporary version.

In the end a classic plus is likely only going to be a sub fee, so even if people hate SoD, they might peak at a classic + to eye it up regardless.

youre completely right about that, i myself didnt play som exactly because of that, i came to sod specifically to try and show appreciation and support for classic + and to try and give feedback on whatever they did so we could have a classic+ / wow 2 in a good way instead of what retail became
one of the things i wanted them to test the most was banning addons like they did with gdkp, and start integrating things like dmg meters and QOL into the game instead of leaving it for the community to fix their stuff, but oh well

Same here. Season of mastery just sounded like a PvEfest to me, which is not the experience I was after. SoD was much more down my alley, and to be honest, there’s been areas of it that have had great potential. Phase 1 I was actually super hyped at the possibilities because the changes they made felt so impactful, while using a unique concept in pausing the leveling to essentially twink out. Phase 2 / 3 did not have that same allure though. If they’re going to pause leveling, they should only do it once, and they can’t get lazy with it like phase 2 / 3 felt like.

That’s essentially just creating work for themselves that the community has already done, which not even the retail devs have entirely done. A lot of addons are limited in SoD because the lack of information given by the default UI. In the end, Add-ons to me are customization, and banning customization isn’t generally a good thing. Does that mean people can cheese certain aspects of the game? Sure, but is it really cheesing it any more than going to a youtube guide and seeing exactly how to do everything for your class, and for raids? Not really.

sure, i understand your point on that, ive been playing wow for far too long to see the devs actually working on the game to make it better instead of leaving it for the players
i wanted addons banned so that it would force devs to stop making red fire on red ground with red particles and instead make more readable mechanics that arent going to wipe an entire raid if you blinked or sneezed at the wrong second, you know, making the game better
a great example was eranikus, and those green clouds on his first week, the ground was green ish, the cloud particles move around so you never really knew where exactly they were, i died on every attempt my guild did back on that fight because i just couldnt see the clouds on my pc, then the next reset they made the clouds blue and less “cloudy” so you could actually see where the heck was the mechanic
i only pointed it out because they banned gdkp, a player interaction chosen by players, instead of banning the gold buyers / sellers / bots, so why not?
but none of this was a discussion about addons specifically, its more about making the game better and approachable to more people instead of just giving more “challenges” and being in an arms race against the top end of players

Could be worse. The games I really hate are the ones where you can’t tell friendly fire from enemy fire, literally. In the end though I’m less fussed about things like that than I am gameplay value and game cycles. Readable mechanics don’t matter if everyone alt f4’s the game.

Didn’t actually do sunken temple, but I recall there being issues with that in scholo with that poison. What’s actually the problem there is the modern graphics slider. If you scale down the game’s graphics back to 3 (the vanilla settings) the gas clouds are visible. If you crank it up to 10, it takes a few seconds for the gas clouds to appear. I imagine it was an issue similar to that.

They “try” to ban the gold buyers / sellers / bots, but in the end that’s a futile effort. Banning the GDKPs removed a big chunk of why people would buy gold in the first place, as suddenly there’s far less to do with gold than there was before. Once you have your mount, you’re pretty much good. I do think that ends up hurting the grouping potential, and kills motivations for some players to continue to raid once geared, buuuut that was essentially just money laundering for RMT. I was for them banning it, now I’m kinda thinking maybe I was wrong… I don’t really know where I stand on it these days.

i agree with you with pretty much everything, and again, thank you for the civil discussion, this is what i wanted with all my posts and comments
in my near 16 years playing wow at this point, ive only ever seen gdkp become popular and a real issue in classic after aq40 patch, the last gdkp i participated during naxx patch we had a dude sit out 3 alts with gold cap outside the raid to pay for what he bought, i never went to a gdkp again because of it.
gdkp is great in a world of no gold buying / bots farming 24/7 flying under the world and such, but just like the readability on mechanics
i doubt blizzard cares and see those guys with as nothing more than + subs and + characters to inflate the game population

i had so many ideas for sod / classic +, like guild banks, breaking the barrier of factions so players can play together and have a bigger pool for activities, no addons, no gdkp, more than 2 items per boss in a 40 man raid, bring stuff like kharazhan from tbc as a dumbed down lvl 60 raid, make the bloodmoon event an actual battle royale with us dropping from zeppelins, instead of melee hunter spec, give them dual wielding crossbows or guns and make it a gunslinger spec like d3 demon hunter, bring dks and demon hunters for horde / alliance respectivelly but in a more simple version than they already are to fit classic, add a toggle to the game to let us use the retail graphics in this version of the game, rework how spirit / mp5 works, the innate 1% miss chance for casters and the +5 or more weapon skill for melees.
like actually work in the GAME, not just raids

Yep, always nice to sneak in a real discussion amidst the giant cesspool that is the forums. xD

Yeahhh, the earlier iterations of the game gold buying was less prevalent. I think once blizzard gave their stamp of approval and started selling gold, that’s when people became less afraid of getting substantial bans.

It’s far better in a world without those at least. Still not my thing, but I’m a PvPer, so it isn’t meant to be my thing.

I think part of the charm of classic is that us vs them mentality. If one faction’s population was struggling I’d be more open to this idea, but I imagine it’s a lot more work than it sounds like. That’s the framing I look at when it comes to changes, as the classic team I imagine is much smaller than the retail one, so their ability to do dev intensive activities is far more limited.

I was hoping for the kara krypts dungeon myself, as I’ve explored it in the past multiple times by getting underneath the map. Never understood why that was benched in the original version.

It definitely felt like the blood moon event needed more work to it to make it feel better. I still say having that in Un’guro Crater and having the Blood Loa a giant T-rex would have been amazing. STV has enough PvP by default without having an event there.

Sounds pretty cool

Lost me on this one. xD I think DKs could potentially be fit into classic, though I wouldn’t want to see them because they were always over the top it felt like. DH’s conceptually just couldn’t work. The mobility of that class is kind of the trade mark, and without everyone having full on retail mobility, they’d just be absolute gods.

They kinda have similar to this, though it isn’t quite retail graphics anymore. The original graphics settings are 3, everything above that is an improved version of graphics compared to what was available back then.

i agree to it, but giving us the option to group up with others would be cool, i think my server for example is the mega pve server and its already trending to a majority of alliance, you cant even find the summon / dmt / boosting bots anymore because they all swapped to the bigger customer base, every time this happened in all history of wow, the smaller faction just started spiraling to death

well, thats why dumbed down would make them work, they already gave warriors death grip and infinite charges anyways. they could make DKs for horde only like they were in warcraft RTS and the “alliance equivalent” would be DHs, unstoppable force vs immovable object, like paladins vs shamans, and the difference would be mitigated by allowing everyone to group up for pve regardless or to queue up for bgs and get filled randomly regardless of faction

at least for me, what made me fall in love with wow back in the day, and with classic in 2019, was how massive it is, and the biggest issue of classic for me is seeing how much specs / players we “have to ditch” because they are playing “the wrong spec” like spriests, boomkins and arms warriors in pve
fixing those specs / adding more like shaman tank and such was the perfect solution to the biggest problem imo and i loved it, i finally thought that we would have a 40 man raid made of rainbows instead of 20 warriors 10 priests 10 mages

PVE servers are a different story. You should 100% be able to group with people cross faction on PVE servers.

It doesn’t help that blizzard tends to actively sit by and watch it happen because it makes them tons of money in xfer fees. I despised watching it happen again in classic. RIP Herod.

I just get nightmare flashbacks of having to deal with both of those classes in PvP lol. They would have to be pretty substantially reworked to fit into the classic framework. Now if you suggested monk… <.< >.> I might be for that, but I’m biased in that scenario because that became my retail main as a healy boiii lol.

I think that’s a bit of a misnomer. Those specs never needed to be ditched, it was just the meta zug brain of taking along what’s best, despite the raids being stupidly easy. Same reason why people insist on world buffs. I assume that’s what you meant since you put it in quotes though.

I was so excited and hopeful for rogue tank… and I think that might have been the most disappointing thing of the entirety of SoD for me. If you went into the designing phase trying to get rogue tanks to be the most poorly design tank spec imaginable, you probably couldn’t have hoped to achieve what the dev team pulled off here.

To a certain extent, I get it, you don’t want rogues to be doing what they can do in PvP, on top of actually being a beefy boy… but man… having the ability that makes you tanky be a combo point spender that you can’t use immediately, to having our aoe’s painfully weak, to tying the fix for those AoE abilities being too weak to a 2 piece tier set bonus and not just fixing it by default… It just felt like they did everything in their power to hamstring rogue tanks from being anything more than just raid off tanks.
