Falsely reporting new patch

I didn’t say they couldn’t afford to do it they used to have them.

When a business cuts cost they don’t typically inject money back into what they cut Without pulling that money from somewhere else. They see it as profit loss even though it was never a profit loss When they had it at the beginning

Was reading that announcement a few minutes ago and all I could think was “how long will it take for this to go horribly wrong?”

Like they get punished now?

Exactly.

Proving a false report is the responsibility of the player making the claim. I’m sure it happens. I’m not convinced it happens with enough regularity to actually be what causes Blizzard to actually take some sort of action.

And a cute one at that.

Ideally, and what is necessary, they go back to the way it used to be with GMs available in-game.
But I think the chances of that happening are zero
The report system will probably still be an auto system just like in their other games (think Overwatch) and if you get several reports you will be auto banned and just have to wait for your ban time to be over and wait to hear from Blizzard if you appeal it.
I don’t even know if a ban appeal is a thing, though. Never ran into being banned. muted, etc.

edit: and too be fair, this isn’t just a Blizzard problem. Most games are like this now because they don’t have to pay anyone and they can be lazy. My husband was banned from smite because people thought he was cheating, lmao. He wasn’t. He was just auto banned. It’s an issue for sure.

the Report Mafia will be up and running in days.

They probably couldn’t even hire the amount of people needed to monitor the reports and get to them in a timely manner.

They probably receive on a daily basis a large amount or reports and especially considering how the player base is I wouldn’t be surprised.

Now with Microsoft in the picture that could change.

You can appeal anything: Squelches (which is really what you’re talking about, when it pertains to WoW), Silences, Suspensions, etc.

There’s no such thing as an “auto-ban”. There is such a thing as an auto-Squelch which DCs you after an X amount of reports, you get DC’d and have to re-log in, 'cause that’s how the auto-Squelch gets applied to your account. You can still play the game, you just can’t utilize the public chat channels. The GM will review the logs of said reports and will decide to add a Silence, Suspension or let the Squelch timer run out and tosses those reports, in the trash. The Silence will continue to not allow you to utilize the public chat system. However, a Suspension won’t even let you into the game.

There IS a difference between all the different disciplinary systems, Blizz has in place, but they’re NOT bans. You even admit to not knowing 'cause it’s never happened to you.

I’ve been playing since BC. I’ve been Suspended for cursing, Squelched for participating in the whole Thunderfury spam, compromised account due to my own ignorance, etc. Blizz is very generous with their discipline. I shouldn’t even be talking about my account actions 'cause that’s a “no no” but either my posts will be deleted, or they’ll suspend me for a few days. I won’t be gone FOREVER. IK the rules.

Blizz cares too much about the money we spend. They’re not going to perma-ban us, for too long. Just “slap on the wrist” stuff.

I know this is exaggeration for effect, but I’m fairly sure you would care if massive numbers of people were hired and your expansion cost and subscription cost was doubled to pay for that. Because I tell you this - most companies rarely, if ever, absorb costs.

Actually forgot, I have been locked out of my account way back in BC or WoTLK because my account was hacked by a gold farmer.

I mean, I definitely agree with you that they don’t want to keep people banned because at the end of the day they probably don’t care how toxic you are, as long as they get that 15 buckaroos. That’s why a lot of toxic players are still around and have been for years.

There was a huge fiasco months ago about some guy getting auto-, whatever you say it’s called, because his pet name was “gorilla” and people mass reported him for it. I think it was due to people getting mad at him for pvp reasons and that’s how they got him.

Either way, if you’re being perma banned, muted, dc’d for 3 days, or squelched, w/e…
If it’s able to be done from spam reports and you can’t play the game for X days until someone looks into it (which takes days), that’s just a bad system.

I hate the Squelch system, but it still allows you to play the game. You just can’t talk in the public chats. I’ve been distancing myself away from the public chats because people are so report happy, that I might as well be a Silenced account LOL

I do understand the Squelch was Blizz’s solution to counter gold sellers, when they can’t react, right away. So, the Squelch acts quickly, but it’s only for a short time. Only when the GM decides to continue your lack of chat privileges is when they’ll apply the Silence, and that duration is much longer.

FFXIV pretty much warns you to be sure its a legit complaint your reporting or you can be punished. I love it. I wish Blizz would do this too.

Honestly, not as bad as I thought it would be.
While it’s unfair you can’t interact if you’ve been mass reported unfairly, it’s better than just kicking someone out.
I would still prefer them to hire a competent team. Thanks for explaining that all though. It’s appreciated.

At this point I’d pay double for better service than have a robot or AI program do the work. But then there’s no guarantee they’d hire a large team and just either line their pockets or create some other project outside of WoW I have no interest in.

It’s a pipedream, I know. My faith in this system is fairly low; people will find a way to circumvent it. And it does nothing for where the large base of real communication occurs on discords or other VOIP.

People hardly ever talk in the game as it is. Unless it’s /trade. Might as well turn it off as that’s the only time I see ridiculous behavior among all the spamming. Maybe these other forms if harassment is reflective of higher end content, of which I do no play therefore never see. If that’s the case, I have no solution.

In light of that, however, let’s hope it works as intended. I really do. I hear about horrible toxic stuff on here all the time.

Did you not see Age of Ultron. An AI having to deal with all the toxic bs on here is how you get Ultron.

It’s been a while since I saw the movie. I don’t know about apocalyptic AI taking over, but I could see where if this system doesn’t work properly and a lot of people get banned because of so many false reports… In theory you could have thousands of people just quit because they can’t play and then trying to go through the appeal process might take days and not be worth the effort.

This is where I don’t understand things. People have the tools to just turn off trade chat, whispers and any kind of communication the game as well as profanity filters.

Granted trying to find a group to play with would be a challenge, but there are ways to play this game in essentially a quiet mode.

And then there of course all the drama that happens within a guild. People are going to be ugly no matter where you go in life, and I do my best to be a respectful and nice person in the game.

Honestly I don’t really say much in the game anymore. Not out of fear of being actioned, but the simple fact that people just don’t respond.

My question is how do we avoid or what guarantee do we have the system not being abused?
