False name reporting

Hello, a friend of mine with the name Kerigann on Moonguard keeps having their name reported. It keeps happening in the last few months and Gms overturn it and say there is nothing wrong with the name but this last time it is saying their account is suspended and they can’t even post on the forums. Is there anyway someone can take a quicker look at their ticket so they don’t have to wait 24 hours for a reply to their ticket because of others breaking the rules… thank you

Not here, your friend will have to wait til the ticket is answered.

As for the name being reported, perhaps people think your friends name is too close to Sarah Kerrigan, which is a tradmarked character from Starcraft.

Just a theory though…

Thanks but they have had the name since Wrath began and it’s only been a recent issue which each time it’s been overturned by Gms. The last one even said it seemed fishy.

Thinking about it, are you SURE the suspension is related to their name? How long is their break?

Yeah, the email clearly states it’s in regards to the name. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully they see the ticket in the morning.

It’s an RP server, therefore beholden to specific RP server naming policies. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/135764 though yes, quite close to Kerrigan. I only EVER see non-offensive names changed when someone is angry or being petty. So if they made a group of people angry, that’s probably why.

It’s unfortunate, but for your friend, they might have to use a different name.

Have your friend go here for possible names. It’s what I use to generate character names.

Well seeing as it’s happened over a dozen times now hopefully they do something about the probably same group of people abusing the report system. If it’s been reversed every time they obviously should not have to change names. Anyway thanks for the info.

Be assured, they’ll get whats coming to them. In the past, people have been suspended for abusing the reporting system.

Something else that your friend needs to remember is that the RP Naming Policy is much stricter than a Normal realm, and generally, players on an RP realm are much more inclined to report names that could break their immersion.

Blizzard also lets a community have some measure of control. If many people are reporting the name, even if Blizzard has overturned it many times, they may be to a point where they feel the community on that realm has spoken, and uphold the name change.

So the advice I would give to your friend is to 1) appeal the ruling and see what Blizzard says, but also 2) consider the impact the name could be having on their realmmates.

I’m not sure why we would think there’s any abuse here. We don’t know if the same people are reporting over and over, but even so, Blizzard says to keep reporting. That’s the advice we give to people on the other side if this issue.

If it is the same people, they could easily think the friend is just renaming it to the same thing. This is why it could be time to consider alternatives.

Since this was not addressed, the length of time someone has had a name does not mean they get to keep it if it is determined it breaks the naming policy.

Code of Conduct

Naming

Names are subject to the same rules established above. Any name the player has the ability to customize—such as player names, BattleTags, and guild names—must be appropriate and inoffensive. Any name that violates our standards or disrupts the community will be changed, and additional limitations may be placed on the offending account per our discretion.

Take note that acceptable names are determined by player reports and Blizzard’s decision, and role-playing servers may have distinct standards for using game-appropriate names.

Role Play Naming Policy - Blizzard Support

Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)

Your friend’s name may run afoul of that rule, where the name is from one of Blizzard’s IPs.

You personally only get to “see” a very limited number of name changes. You don’t get to see what someone has written in the box when they reported a name. Your speculation that it is because “they made a group of people angry” is just that - speculation. A name does not need to be “offensive” to be inappropriate.

While you are a good friend trying to help, we really can’t do much from a 3rd party appeal like this. I did try to look at what may be going on, but not seeing anything pop up on Moon Guard, at least - spelled that way.

They just need to appeal, we get to those fairly fast.

Thank you, it was resolved they said while close to the starcraft name it is NOT against their Role Play naming policy and they took care of it. As they have said each time before. To all the people repeating each other with the policy thing… there you go…

Well, that is good to hear.
