False Chargeback?

important details:

  • was gifted shadowlands heroic pass, played fine till 3 days ago
  • character became locked and shadowlands no longer showing on my account
  • support replied saying that the gift was charged back
  • saw the billing statement of the purchase and proof that there was no chargeback
  • currently waiting for support to reply with details on the chargeback (Friend and I have zero proof to show that there was a chargeback)

So I am confident that I can dispute this and resolve the issue, but the thing I’m wondering about is if I can just purchase the pass again (just for the sake of being able to play) until the ticket has been fully resolved, and then request a refund for that specific purchase. Ticket response times are super long, and I’m quarantined for 2 weeks, so you can imagine I’m not having the best time by myself.

Would anyone happen to have some experience or information on this?
Thanks in advance.

Few questions. First, where did the person that gifted you Shadowlands purchase it from. Did they purchase directly from Blizzard, or did they purchase it from a 3rd party site?

My initial gut feeling is they purchased it from a 3rd party site, and that site acquired it maliciously. Thusly, Blizzard killed the key. Or the site took advantage of the refund option to the same effect. If it is a 3rd party site, I do have to let you know whomever gifted it to you would have to deal with them, as they have the money, not Blizzard.

If they purchased it directly from Blizzard, is there ANY chance the purchaser took advantage of the refund option?

Based on your post, I am heavily leaning towards the first option unfortunately. I truly do hope that I am wrong, and this gets resolved for you.

Edit: As to the second part of your post, honestly I do not know the answer to that. My answer would depend on your answer to my questions unfortunately.

MastadĂ´n does present the most likely scenario. In this type of case - the purchaser of the gift would want to be the one to contact us.

The purchase was made through blizzard at the full price of 59.99USD, so not a 3rd party vendor. There’s 0 chance because it is a close friend of mine. We looked at his bank/card statements together so there is no foul play on our end. Thanks for the reply.

OK, that takes my initial fear away, and that makes me VERY happy to hear.

Your friend needs to put a ticket in. I would probably use problem with purchase, it gets prioritized differently. Tell them to explain the situation. Tell them to be very precise. Something along the lines of…

I gifted my friend, bnet account name XXXXX Heroic Shadowlands. It got removed from their account 3 days ago. I did NOT initiate a refund. How do I resolve this so they have the gift I gave them? Please help.

In this case, it is best to KISS the situation. Just ignore the second S, as I am not trying to insult anyone. Just tell them to keep it simple. More can be detrimental and confuse the matter.

Main reason I opened the ticket is because we both have access to the purchase history/statement. Thanks for your reply, but would you have any insight on my question.

Really, Billing is going to be the only ones that can answer that type of question - and likely will only do it for the purchaser.

Exactly what I was going to say. Had it been 3rd party, I was going to say may be worthwhile to re purchase. However in this case, probably better to wait.

Removed the link as I think it was linked to me, oops. At the top of the page, hit the support button and the rest should be the same when you get to filing a ticket.

Choose on the bottom of the search box would rather categorize, payments, purchase failure. I think that would be the best path to go.

Please bear in mind, however, your friend purchased it. They will have to put the ticket in, as that is where the purchase is linked.

Thanks for your responses.
Then in the case that I purchase the pass for myself, would it be easier for me to request the refund (that I made) after the ticket is resolved rather than have them refund the gift?

Honestly, I’d hold off till your friend hears from Billing.

Here is my concern and why once again I agree with Orlyia.

You purchase to play. Your friend then gets it resolved. However you used too much of yours and it is not refundable.

Please remember ALL digital sales are final and they don’t have to refund you. I know patience is hard right now, especially with you in quarantine for 2 weeks. I get it. However anything but patience I feel is going to severely complicate the issue and possibly have an end result of angering you. Sadly my advice is to just wait it out.

Level some alts to 50, do something else. There are options. I know it is not what you want to hear, but it is the best answer for the circumstances.
