On the campaign quest “Factory Recon” while I was being the cute little robot guy and going through a grate, my dungeon queue popped. I accepted the queue. After returning from the dungeon, I was no longer the cute little guy. I abandoned the quest. I can no longer become the cute little guy. When I try and start the quest again, it procedes as normal, but once I click on the robot and talk to him and it cuts to the black screen, it returns me to my character.
Oddly, as my character, I can see my character standing next to me.
I’ve recorded a video for clarity. I can no longer progress the campaign.

I had the same issues, couldn’t take control of the robot at all.
I play on an Asus rog ally.
Turns out if I swapped the control scheme to desktop mode (it sees the stocks as mouse and wasd for example) it worked!
Once I was the robot I put it back into auto mode and was able to control the robot like normal.

This just happened to me. Any fix?
I’ve had this same issue. Nothing I do seems to fix it. I’ve relogged, I’ve turned off all addons. I’ve abandoned and restarted the quest at least 15 times. If this prevents me from being able to unlock Earthen I’m going to be really angry.
same issues… disabled addons, reloaded, relogged, i only get the body double.
same issue here. I can’t complete the campaign because of this.
Disabling all of my addons and relogging into the game fixed it for me.

I had the same issue & was getting very frustrated as nothing I tried worked. Finally got a suggestion from someone else in the zone. Tried their suggestion a few different ways before finding one that worked.
I have the Interact Key option enabled, so I’m not sure this will work without that, but the method that worked for me was: accept the quest, walk away (like 15+ yards) & select yourself, walk back & interact with ZZ.
I have NO idea why that worked when nothing else I tried did, but I’m just happy I’m no longer stuck on this.

Using mouse click to interact with the bot instead of the interact key worked for me too.
As of end of Sept, bug seems fixed. You might need to dismiss any pets though.
What I had a problem with was figuring out where to go after getting control of that minion. No hint on minimap that I could see.
So: take the path to the left.
The grate referred to is near the waterfall, not the big one you immediately see.
The bug just happened to me. I fixed I guess one of the steps above. I disabled addons for the specific toon, logged out, reloaded and still didn’t work. The extra step I did was reloaded and restarted wow, got off my mount (dunno if that was part of the issue), accepted the quest but did not talk to the robot. Quit wow and talked to the robot and finally was able to control the robot and finish this part of the quest
I use a dock and a Logitech controller on my ROG Ally. I keep the Ally in desktop mode while it’s docked. I had to talk to the robot guy, and interact with the pipes using the Ally, but the controller worked for steering the robot guy around just fine. I’m glad I found this thread
