Ladies I think it’s VERY VERY likely we’ll get a second OCE-PVP realm.
There’s literally only 1 PVP server. That means everyone from Frostmourne, Barthilias, Gundrak etc will ALL be directed to Arugal. THEN you need to consider the streamers (Chinglish and Quin) who have fanbases in the thousands. They only have 1 choice: Arugal.
THEN you need to consider that OCE consists of more than Australia, we’ll also get people from Asia seeking English environments. Also you should consider all the people returning to Classic who haven’t played in ages.
This means that at launch, IMO Arugal will have MINIMUM 10,000 players on the realm.
Now let’s assume a worst case scenario that within a few months the player base shrinks by 50% to 5000.
That’s still enough players for two PVP realms at 2500 each.
I think it’s very likely the final realm structure for OCE by the end of the year will look like this:
- Arugal-PVP (3000 players).
- NEW PVP realm (2500 players).
- Remulos-PVE.
I can’t see them going higher than 3. And less realms is better. 3 is perfect IMO.
I thought you were all for the rivalry, who’ing another guild to see if/where they’re congregating promotes the rivalries, no?
In vanilla we could solve the problem by rolling on another PvP realm. This is currently not an option as we have one (1) PvP realm. I was swapping back and forth between factions without a care, as both factions offer unique benefits and are quite enjoyable. As both factions I fully cooperated in efforts against the opposing faction, and I still do.
I’m not going to say that has never happened. In my experience of being on PvP realms people are more likely to gank someone they are familiar with than to not gank them, if they find them on the other faction.
Out of context the restriction isn’t inherently a problem. When we have the same restriction that was implemented in a world of many servers in a world of 1 server, we now have a problem.
Thematically I love the restriction and I do agree some of your in-game points are correct even if they are only mildly alleviated by the restriction. But as it stands the possible solutions (if any) are another PvP realm or to lift the restriction. I believe in classic wow everyone will be hyped up on the spirit beating [opposing faction] whether we can roll the other faction or not. I don’t know if you think people never rolled another faction in vanilla or something. All the rivalries still existed while everyone had characters on Horde and Alliance.
I think lowering the restriction would have far less of an impact than adding another server to split the PvP population between. I don’t want to end up with the PvP server being Frostmourne or incredibly Horde favoured. If one side starts out quite strong and people pick that side (guilds, economy, pop in general), nobody can roll the other faction to try even it out. I hope that doesn’t happen of course and we’re even, but it’s a point.

I agree with Rofo that it might be a bit restrictive, but ultimately a good thing.
Players will have to pick 1 faction per server and stick with it. This is the most important thing.
This will benefit the community, guild and faction rivalry hugely in invisible ways.
The fact that we only have 1 Oce PvP server is restrictive, but perhaps a necessary evil to have a high population.
In WotLK, Blizz stealth-removed the restriction for 1 faction per server, suddenly we had this situation where if you had World PvP with someone, they’d log over onto their lv1 alt and send you rage whispers, or slander you in trade chat etc.
Also, if one faction on a server seemed to be stronger, people would transfer en masse to that faction amplifying the difference massively, and in the long run, destroying the smaller faction on that server.
@Cynalessaqt
yeah I see your concern about everyone rolling one faction really hard, but I think with the number of people rolling at the start, people will be evenly distributed between rem & aru and between factions so that it won’t be noticable.
PLUS if you want to “faction change” you have to delete all your characters on that realm and completely start over, which is something people will be discouraged from doing because things take time in Vanilla, and gold is valuable, and you can’t pay $$ to instantly swap it all over.
