Just wanted to state it a bit clearly but blue eyes doesn’t make them the high elves. Canonically both high elves and blood elves would share almost every eye color elves have Gold/purple/blue ect with the exception of only blood elves having green. Blood elves having Blue eyes doesn’t make them the high elves that still reside under Vareesa Windrunner.
Thanks for making another thread that’s nearly identical to what other threads are saying.
It may not be a race, but it represents a sect of Blood Elves that do NOT fight for the Horde. The Horde should not have access to them, period. And no amount of yelling that they are the same will change that.
There’s been a good 10+ years of consistency on this.
Blood elves is not a race, difference is purely political. And now BElfs cleaned from fel and they even more pure than alliance outcasts

Eye color has a significant role in defining allegiances among elves though.
Blood elves were a majority of the original high elves…still not understanding the hang up on their eye color returning to that of their forebearers.
Because there’s no story for it. If their eye color has returned, then there should be no green eye options.
So basically you want to be an alliance blood elf
Race is already a social construct. Discriminating based on eye color is pretty par for course.
Why not? Not all blood elves will progress back at the same rate. Also warlocks and blood elves that work with fel energy, it would make sense for their eyes to stay green.
At this point they should give Void Elf pale skinned customization choices. I mean, Blizzard is giving even more reason to play a Blood Elf (Horde) when they need to be giving people more reason to play Ally.
I find it ironic that the High Elf camp was like “High elves are more than just eye color!” and now that Blood Elves could be potentially getting blue eyes the same camp seems to be yelling “The Horde is getting High Elves!”
Kill all elves and most problems will evaporate.
Wrong on a couple of levels.
First in that Blood Elves are High Elves, not the other way around.
Second, it is theoretically possible that there could be blood elves that didn’t stoop to consuming fel to sustain themselves, which tainted their eye glow from the blue if Arcane to the green taint if Fel. Those with golden eyes are infused with Light energy. They should theoretically be able to have eye colors that match each of the primal energy types.
The whole idea is that the Blood Elves are the survivors of Quel’thalas that continued to follow Kael’thas. They renamed themselves to Blood Elves in remembrance of those who died during the scourging.
Actually they were High Elves before they were Blood Elves.
Let’s talk about wrong, and start with your reading of what I said. First in that I actually said High Elves and Blood Elves are the same thing. The race has been renamed. The semantics of which is which are essentially irrelevant.
Second, all blood elves that refused to consume the fel were exiled, and as of the Lor’themar short story have no interest in coming back. On account of them being cast directly south out of Quel’thalas and into the freaking Plaguelands.
Blood Elves should have more eye colors, yes. But which colors matters. I’d be okay with any color other than blue, because right now the blue eyes have an actual political meaning. It is how you tell the difference between the blood elves that stayed loyal to their prince, and how you tell the high elves that still fight for the Alliance.
Because it is indisputable that…
And it has been that way for a good ten years. The blue-eyed elves in the Burning Crusade were ALLIANCE, the blue-eyed elves in Northrend were ALLIANCE, the blue-eyed elves in Mists were ALLIANCE, the blue-eyed elves in Legion were ALLIANCE, and the blue-eyed elves in BfA were ALLIANCE.
There are no “buts” or “howevers.” Every blue-eyed elf in the game, with the exception of one NPC in Ratchet, is universally Alliance-aligned. Even if you are in the “High Elves are just Blood Elves” camp, there is a trend here that the blue-eyed elves have fought for the Alliance, and that should be respected if nothing else. The best move with this controversy is for it to be left alone.
This has never been in debate.
They’re still high elves actually, it’s just a “we call ourselves THIS! now” after the scourge attack.
You can’t just change your race because you want to.
Eye color is canonically determined why what kind of power they “feed” on.
The Sunwell was originally a font of arcane energy, hence the blue eyes.
After Arthas blew everything up, the Blood Elves turned to fel energy in a fit of desperation, hence the green eyes.
When the Sunwell was restored, it became a font of light energy, hence the golden eyes.
IIRC, Valeera Sanguinar had purple eyes for a while after siphoning shadow energy from a Naga weapon.
In the current state of the world, I’d imagine that eye color should be tied to class (gold for Paladins and Priests, green for Warlocks, etc) but the decision was made to just let people choose. Maybe the barber offers magical lollipops.
