Extreme Tank shortage

Tanks like to learn instances before just going in. There is a lack of people wanting to do any instance less than an 8 because delves are better. Either be a tank or start bringing them up.

Tank isnā€™t synonymous with dps that stands in fire.

To be clear, I do not tank. Any longer. The whole thread is about the shortage. Itā€™s just an odd notion in order to make healing fun they adjusted a whole other role. Especially one that was already on the lower end of being played.

And for the record, I have never been critical (openly or to anyone) about a tank or healer in game. Waiting to play something is just the worst wait there is. I donā€™t know what kind of people would not be happy to just be doing something. It might be a waste of time, but I was already wasting that.

Well said Stizzle. Tanking has become the easiest role in modern WoW (M+) thanks to the lack of affixes like Necrotic, Bolstering (The MOTHERLODE!! anyone?) Sanguine (Tol Dagor, Waycrest Manor) Explosives (Temple of Seth, Shrine of the Storm etc).

I feel for the healers tbh. Iā€™ve seen DPS that require more healing than they can do in dps lmao. Usually one per pug.

You can only tell people dont stand in bad so many times. If they wont listen, then you have to resort to other ways to get the point home. DPS standing in bad is wasting the healers time, those are globals that could be used to contribute to dmg, now being wasted on healing avoidable dmg.

I cant even tell you the number of DPS I see die with lock rocks/HP potions/defensives available.

So why can DPS waste my time, but i cant waste their time, that seemsā€¦ rather biased and reeks of ā€œrules for thee, not for meā€

Well, in S1 of DF a group managed to time a +27 key running 4 dps and a prot pally. If any role is in danger of being removed, it was the healers, and largely due to tanks being able to solo heal while tanking.

My healers have never been able to tank while healing, why should tanks fill 2 roles?

In short, they were having fun. And Karens just canā€™t stand the thought of people having fun without them. So enough Karens protested loudly enough so that fun has been significantly nerfed for everyone. Keys right now are brutal and tanking, at least on a pally, isnā€™t that fun atm. Good job. The game should be fun, not a purposeful sweatfest. I donā€™t give a ratā€™s petuty if last expacā€™s tanks were OP based on your preconceived notion of their place in the trinity. It made a role that has been increasingly less played more fun. That was good for everyone, including healers because it took some of the stress off of the normal ones, and encouraged more tanks to queue up.

Speaking as a tankā€¦ I mean, yeah, thatā€™s true. But these arenā€™t mutually exclusive.

Tanking is harder, people treat tanks like doody, and often have mutually exclusive demands of tanks. Itā€™s ā€œPULL FASTER!ā€ sometimes, or ā€œWHAT ARE YOU DOING ARE YOU ON CRACK WITH THAT PULL?!ā€ others. And often it can be the same pull eliciting both responses.

Idk I saw a lot of people in this very forum being extremely happy when they nerfed tank defensives during beta. A bunch of us said that this was going to increase tank shortage even more, and were told ā€œNope, now you tanks need to learn to be team players, and just accept your role and tank mobs for us!ā€

The nerf to tank defensives didnā€™t matter much for the actual content, but did anyone really think itā€™d bring MORE people to the role? They gutted dps trinkets for tanks, made us do much less damage (agro is still an issue against some classes, ie: ret/warriors). So much fun.

During beta I mentioned often that after 3-4 weeks into TWW Season1 itā€™d become a real issue, and that I would take advantage of it by applying to lower keys ā€œ300k and Iā€™ll tank your keyā€. Weā€™re approaching this time frame, and I will 100% do it.

You donā€™t have to spout toxicity to be toxic, People can be toxic in a lot of ways. Iā€™ve had DPS ā€˜give upā€™ because of a few wipes and on the pull we could beat the timer, they die to easy mechanics just so they donā€™t have to play anymore, people have the mentality that if you die and wipe more than once it means they Key is bricked. (In a lot of instances that can be true since Challengers Peril is such an butthole affix)

You have people not interupting and just using tunnel vision, making the tank work harder because ā€œItā€™s so EASY.ā€ Itā€™s why I solely tank with people I know and MAYBE pug one person, I can count on the group of people I know to treat each key like itā€™s a high key, I would be more than happy to try out pug groups and Iā€™m not easily offended but why bother when I can just run with people who donā€™t have the potential to be buttholes for no other reason than their little egoā€™s.

There are five people in the group. That leaves three others for the healer to be concerned about besides the tank. Iā€™m sure for the vast number of groups there was no healer needed and weā€™re only talking about a teeny tiny number that actually include healers. But maybe they could look to the dps to alleviate their boredom?

Buffing tank mobility? LMFAO! What Iā€™m seeing in instances is the tank just running way ahead of the rest of the group and chain pulling like they are in Mythic-plus-plus content and outrunning their mobility challenged Priest or other healer. But Blizz has buffed tanks to the extent they can survive the alpha strike and donā€™t seem to even need a healer half the time. A dps off-healing often can do the trick. Canā€™t really stand the way many tanks just zerg the content. Tanks need to be more dependent on the group.
