Most people who’d play it would be already tanking on other classes now. Overall increase in tanks would be minimal.
Actually no, it doesn’t balance out.
The thing about tanking and healing is that your fun is dependent on the group. While as DPS your fun is mostly independent of the group.
DPS runs off and pulls more mobs?
As a tank I have to collect those mobs then potentially burn cooldowns I was saving for later pulls which means I need to recalculate the route on the fly or risk dying without the cooldowns I was expecting to have available.
As DPS I just wait for the tank to collect the mobs and AoE.
DPS standing in fire?
As a healer I have to shift into panic heal mode and spam flash heal or burn cooldowns I was saving for later pulls potentially leading to the tank dying when they don’t get the external they were expecting.
As DPS I literally don’t care if the other guy dies or not it doesn’t affect my rotation either way.
Tanks and healers are far more likely to skip on PuG groups because they are punished more for other players mistakes. DPS will PuG without any issues because if someone else screws up (short of causing a wipe, and if you’re a rogue, hunter, mage or night elf you can skip on that too) you simply don’t need to care.
You think people enjoy wiping over and over due to bad tanks and healers? Sure, if you enjoy being dead.
No-one likes wiping.
But bad players turn tanking and healing into a chore even if you don’t wipe.
If I wanted to do chores I’d go do laundry or vacuum the floor, not tank for ingrates.

DPS not catching a single interrupt?
LOL it’s the healer’s problem now. Tank’s problem too if it was an AOE fear.
Then…play a game that doesn’t have roles like this then…simple.
theres pretty much nothing on this earth that could get me to tank again for a bunch of drooling morons/screaming basement dwellers/ungrateful chromosome smugglers in this game outside of guild/friend groups.
it’s a player-created problem that has been brewing for years. the absolute bottom of the player pool expects the absolute top from whatever unfortunate soul decides to tank for them and, frankly, dragging a bunch of shrieking dumbasses through dungeons is pretty low down my list of things to do these days.
If stuff doesn’t get interrupted, usually people die. DPS problem again.
I’ve got 3 pally tanks, the only pugs I do are TW, and with friends. It’s been a long time since I’ve tanked a pug without them.
To do the TW raid, I had to spend some time to learn how to play a ret pally. lol
Nah it’s a Blizzard problem.
Systems designers got greedy and thought they could knock tank players down a peg with removing more progression agency away from them with their nerfs. Control freak developer move where they get angry if people are able to grind for progression instead of waiting on weekly timegate.
They didn’t have an actual gameplan for rebalancing. They just emergency nerfed tanks out of fear of too much agency. The devs haven’t realized yet buffing the slow heals of healers isn’t a 1:1 trade with taking away the instant mitigations tanks had. They just did it out of emotion via their control freak freakout, no foresight or any real spell changes planned.
I really liked pugging mid keys on my prot paladin in Dragonflight and doing p much everything the monkey dps refused to. It was fun in those difficulties, I got to flex a bit and use my kit properly while never being in danger of dying. But in higher keys I had to focus on different things and DPS not doing their effin job pissed me off.
So I didn’t pug those anymore, and eventually stopped pugging at all because having people do their damn job is just so addictive.
Respect the dungeons and maybe tanks will pug. Maybe. They most likely won’t because running things in a static is just better.
I think City of Threads is the reason I don’t wanna tank, that and Mists. I don’t want to deal with the puzzle, the maze or searching for the spy. I just want normal dungeons back.
If ‘follow the purple images pointing the way’ and ‘stand next to a stump’ are complicated puzzles then I truly don’t know how they could be simplified any further.
I just said I don’t wanna deal with it, not that it’s complicated. I have the pet from the pipe puzzle, it’s not the puzzles bothering me lol. But put a puzzle inside a timed dungeon that I’m tanking? Yeah, pass.
tank shortage? is that supposed to be a height joke?
y’know what? i’m not tanking for you anymore.
Tanks are tired of being treated like garbage. This is why now there’s a shortage. They will not pug anymore. Who can blame them?
Tanks are too fast
Tanks are too slow
Tank didn’t do the skip I want.
Tank doesn’t know the dungeon like the back of their hand.
Tank made a mistake, I’m leaving.
Tank is playing with friends now and is much happier.
Well you guys are said managing threat was boring, so that made an already boring role to play more boring.
Threat management actually made tanking interesting, I don’t care what the sweats say on this forum. People act like managing a few CDs and hitting a heal or active mitigation button is like some involved game play, when it really isn’t.
Tanking in WoW is so boring.
I play the other big MMOs, tanking in those games is so much more interesting.
Crappy attitude to begin with if you want more tanks.
I’ll need to get a higher ilvl shield and 1h. But I am considering being a pug hero for some keys and stuff soon.
Just… Yah know… It’s hard to get the courage up to jump into that gym and risk being judged when you’re unfamiliar with the routes.
