Extreme full population (Herod) vs extreme low population (Earthfury), Which is better/worse?

Hey. Brand new to classic and was just curious which was better/worse, extremely full population (Herod) or extremely low population (Earthfury). I originally rolled on Herod to play with my old guild that moved here from another game when classic launched but have only been able to get my mage to 27 due to having real life conflicts and the mega multi hour queues. My wife and kids both play but we are rarely all able to play together due to the queues.

I am strongly considering moving to Earthfury but not sure if that’s a good idea? Would love to hear which you would consider to be better or worse, and what some of the pros and cons might be between them.

Thanks in advance!

Some people are sticking to the full servers because they are afraid that a large amount of the games population will fade away in the coming weeks after the hype dies down. That being said, Blizzard stated a long time ago that the server population count is based on their modern server sizes, so a low population server in classic has the same amount of people in it as a full server in Vanilla.

Personally I’d stay on Herod. The queues aren’t going to last forever and it would be better to be on a high pop server then a dead one.

Will the queues go away though? There were queues on Illidan for years… and it was a nightmare at times.

I am on earthfury, it is a ghost town, horrible

How did you even get on earthfury? It’s a ghost town because there’s a 12 hour wait on transfers, so most of then aren’t in yet.

Original poster: it depends on whether it’s more important to you to play with your guild or your family. If the guild, stay on Herod; if the family, transfer to Earthfury with them. Earthfury is going to be medium to queued by morning, though.

When they remove layering they arent just going to take 5 layers worth of players and smash them into a single one you know. The world would be too crowded. A bunch of the players that can be online because of the existence of the layers are just going to be dumped into the queue.

More people = Better always

That’s not how layering works.

Yes they will smash all 5 into a single layer, and no there would be no extra q. All the people on all the layers are using the same q.

saw a movie with a similar plot recently harhar

Say what? When I transferred it was 5 minutes. If xfers are up to 12 hours then the population is definitely going to grow

I would wait and see what the population looks like on the new one.

It is definitely going to be more quiet which is never a good thing: less community, less groups, less stuff on the AH, etc. It’s worse all around.

Of course, you’re playing with your family so it is a bit different. If you guys can’t play together I would definitely switch. I’m not sure I would switch/transfer to the FRESH server. Perhaps check out one of the second or third tier servers that were released. At least you won’t be stuck on a barren server.

The lowest pop Classic server has more players on it than the fullest Vanilla server 15 years ago.

earthfury is new server go there it will fill up.a low pop server is a full 1 in 2006 . you can level way faster with a lower 1 anyways .

It has nothing to do with queues being the same or different. Its because you cant take the primetime population in Org or any zone where max players will be frequenting and multiply it by 5 without causing lag, overcrowding, and strain on the gathering node supply.

I rolled on earthfury, come and join me.
I also switched to the alliance side for a change. Never played Alliance, i just can’t bare to see ugly durotar or barrens. The eye strain is real!!!
17 players in dwarven starting area, hope more ppl come. This was last night around 9pm est.
I remain optimistic for awhile.
I seriously doubt the pop stays low. I do wish transfers were not allowed to fresh realms since it screws everything up in my opinion but oh well i plan on staying.

OP come on over to Earthfury, the water is fine. People talking about it being a ghost town for the people who moved the first 5 minutes and then didn’t wait to see another influx of players last night when they unlocked the server.

Again, as others have stated, that low pop is still a full server from vanilla in terms of size so plenty of folks.

If you and family come over and need a guild just look up the Bourbon Raiders

I’m on Benediction. Medium - low pop I think offers a tighter knit community. But in a good way. Over concern about dead servers will keep layering around on servers like Herod for way longer.
