love how they keep adding time to maintenance with no reason as to why
âHey Frank, I know youâre in panic mode trying to put out that issue and resolve it ASAP, but can you stop that to spend the next hour or so writing up some documentation that will allow our non-technical staff to write some forum posts explaining what is happening?â
Could you maybe get off blizzâs d for a day or two? All I have seen from you is snarky replies to people raising concerns from a company who is being paid for a service but constantly underperforms.
From Frank: âHey Gary, X is fixed, Y is being worked on, Z right after that. Now go post that while I keep working.â
I mean, it took longer to type than would have been to say, which if said, leaves hands free to keep working on the broken code or w/e. But yeah, keep defending bad customer service.
Perhaps blizz is waiting for mail to settle across time zones, so they can merge.
Because context shift isnât a thing.
âHey buddy, drop that house of cards in your mind to say âHi,â even though itâll cause a delay in getting the maintenance done.â
Could you maybe state something appropriate?
You seem to be mistaking stating the obvious for making excuses. Thereâs maintenance, itâs taking longer. What explanation do you need? Itâs not as if youâd understand more than that anyway.
The question to me would be how did Frank get in panic modeâŠagain? If I looked back on Frankâs history of deployments/patches/maintenances is Frank going to look like my rockstar or my toestubber? Are there going to be more times where Frank rises to the occasion or where he fails? If the latter has he been mentored? Why is Frank still running our maintenance cycle?
So you are assuming a less than intelligent player base? Way to win fans. Communication and Transparency goes a long way in fostering healthy relationships between companies and customers.
I mean, in tech the term ârockstarâ has come to be a bad thing. And if weâre putting it on Frank, then the organization isnât very good either.
Sure, there are many questions around whether itâs acceptable for maintenance to take longer, and/or how to handle it.
At this stage of the game though, if youâve been following along for any amount of time over the past 17 years⊠you might schedule work meetings or other activities on Tuesday mornings, rather than WoW time
extending a scheduled 2 hour maintenance by 4 hours on a paid service deservces no explanatin? Ok, dude.
There are definitely people who play this game who can and do understand software deployment. However, itâs pretty unlikely that if you do, youâre complaining for an explanation about delayed maintenance.
I mean⊠isnât it obvious that itâs been delayed? What explanation would satisfy you other than, âfor reasons?â
Itâs just a delay. No big deal.
Iâd like to know why they canât get their estimates right? Itâs not like they missed by 30 minutes or even an hour. And just b/c you canât appreciate a technical explanation for the delays doesnât mean no one is able to. I mean, come down off your high horse a bit.
I mean, I actually can understand technical explanations. However, I certainly donât need one. Itâs delayed. Cool.
Itâs a game. Itâs not a mission critical SaaS that our business relies on.
Of course, thatâs a different story for Blizzard internal staff.
In any case, Iâm not trying to be on a high horse. Iâm simply offering the point of view that it is no big deal. If youâd like to complain that they havenât given an explanation other than moving the estimated time of availability then also cool.
This is my favorite part of the classic experience.
I would agree with you if this were retail we are talking about. This is 15 year old game. that actually doesnt need any updates per se. The lack of estimation from a team that has done this previously is what baffles any normal working person. If I estimate a work to take 4 hrs, I will definitely provide a realistic estimate that is more that the specified time like 6hrs to accommodate the changes. I really wish every company that does CHEATING like this where they dont refund for lost time gets sued would be the best option.
âWeâre having a serious problem reconnecting the whatchamacallit to the thingamuhjig so that the whodathot unit properly transmits with the wafflecircut.â
âNevermind, weâll just quietly add 2 hours to the textbox on the clientâŠâ
I do wish that Blizzard would show more Transparency during a maintenance. I myself as a paying customer, would like to know why a maintenance has been extended. If a customer pays to play, they should be informed as to what is going on. But sadly, that will never happen, nor will they let us know what went on that kept the game down so long.
An hour to write 4 lines of text ? You are DRUNK on that blizzard seamen.
Not if that normal working person has any familiarity with software and/or complex systems.
But regardless, I get the point. Youâd like some insight into the internal processes at Blizzard. I would too. It would be fascinating. However, not having that insight doesnât make any difference to whether or not I play their games.
Delays with server maintenance.
Wow, condescend much? (to condescend means to talk down to those around you). You may not be âtrying to be on a high horseâ but thatâs exactly how you come across. So perhaps you should just shut up if you donât want to be on a high horse and let people vent if they want to.
Oh and " I mean, I actually can understand technical explanations." is so precious. You be smart!
