couldnt agree more. As a healer i usually tend to finish a dungeon with over 80 orbs killed
There are situations all over the place in the current encounter pool that require higher throughput from your healer than anything shadowlands had.
Guardian images comes to mind. Wikket currently meets this description. Dog phase of iron docks cat boss. Basically anywhere there’s a heal check with adds.
This sort of binary “It’s x’s responsibility” is low tier noob garbage. There are plenty of circumstances where 4+ orbs spawn at once and there isn’t time for all the globals from a single player.
I completely agree. Trying to justify offloading responsibility is a terrible mentality that can only serve to limit your progress. Explosive, like so many other things, is a team mechanic.
As my group’s healer I’m more than happy to deal with the orbs. My DPS added, especially on trash, is minimal at best and so I can transfer my spare GCDs to orbs and allow the DPS to focus. However, when we pull large packs and there’s a lot on the screen, or if something just happened and I need my GCDs to keep up, I just ask my team to handle it and they do.
It’s a team mechanic in a team game where you succeed or fail as a… wait for it… team.
Holding aggro is a tank mechanic, however at times the tank may need someone to taunt off/kite depending on the situation. DPSing a priority target is a DPS mechanic, but sometimes the healer and tank have to help burn a target down.
A good group will have a healer get 90+% of the orbs through a dungeon, but to throw a blanket statement as if nobody should ever help Under any circumstance is bad advice. As sackless pointed out, medivh is a good example amongst others.
To shine some more light on it, I personally get annoyed when DPS kill orbs. If they are gonna do that then great let me DPS, don’t make me change targets only for you to beat me to it lol. I’ll usually tell Pugs before the key goes in that I will be killing all of the orbs unless I type something in chat for a particular pull.
Edit : when I DPS, I kill zero orbs on the first pull and see if the healers doing it. If not l, I assume responsibility from that point forward, because I like winning more then being right. Oh and when I tank I kill zero. Best decision I’ve ever made. Tanking explosives week is the best!
Tanks are still pulling 2-3x packs this week, with floor mechanics in a lot of dungeons that make moving around to target every orb slightly difficult when 3+ pop up at the same time. I’m still grabbing 90+% of them, but if you want to ignore them and the group wipes it’s no skin off my back–I generally don’t run my own keys anyway. lol
Sorry that you don’t get to stand on mobs and parse, dawg. Hopefully you end up with Ellesmere in all your runs. xD
Let me know what ranged instant no-CD ability paladin has that is able to get all the orbs at range all the time and I’ll gladly do it.
Crusader strike and auto attack the melee ones, judgment and holy shock the ranged ones. Seldomly do you need holy shock to heal. Wog and LOD is more then enough healing if not overheating most of the time. With current gear, your haste should be very high and you should almost always have something. If you want giga haste take haste over verse from the shrouded guy unless your doing keys where you think you can’t live mechanics because of scaling.
What i enjoy about healing on Hpal during explosives is that we need to use those abilities to build holy
Power anyway, so they don’t feel entirely wasted on orbs. This is especially true because our damage was so badly nerfed who cares anymore lol.
On the shaman I have frost shock on my
Mouse wheel which is an actual joke to get orbs instantly with no GCD I can kill a thousand of them from ranged without being in any danger of mechanics. Also, 3x frost shocks proc the damage from the vesper totem so you lose little damage. I feel sick praising shamans what has my life come to ……
My only issue is finding the explosives in the giant pile of nameplates during big pulls. I use threatplates.
Also there’s a lot of unavoidable incoming damage in some of these season 4 dungeons.

I definitely dont want you in my groups. Explosive is a team mechanic. The healers are usually better equipped to deal with them, but that doesnt mean you can just ignore the orbs completely. If i am dealing with intensive damage i cant always focus on the explosives. If you are the type of player who sees an explosive about to go off and do absolutely nothing, you are the problem.
The only true healer affix is Grievous.
I got that and my amulet from Neltharion’s Lair. Legion timewalking goes away in two days so you best get farming!
Not quite as versish as what he’s wearing but I’ve given 2 or 3 crit/vers rings away today outta Gambit while trying to trinket farm. Might be an option.
Literally saw the mount drop 4x (got one, yay) and only saw the trinket drop once. Guess I’d take a mount that lasts forever over a trinket that goes away in 2 months, but still baffled by that RNG. Lol
I don’t know how much you pug or what keys you are doing. I really struggle healing if I use HS sorely for orbs and find I don’t have enough HP to heal effectively with WoG or LoD if I’m holding for cases where it takes 2-3 seconds for an orb to spawn. Trying to use everything on orbs leads to lower HP usage. If the tank was a BDK this is a lot easier as they don’t need nearly as much attention when it comes to keeping them alive as they do that mostly themselves.
Melee ones are easy, but if 2-3 spawn at range one of them is probably going off unless someone else gets it
It’s because you’re a paladin. Frost Shock / Moonfire / SWP are all instant, spammable, and kill them in one hit.
yeah like this is great and all but i don’t touch explosives in my keys and they seem to be going fine.
u haven’t felt true pain until an explosive is next to u and u have no demonbolt stacks

I tend to give warlocks a pass because they don’t have anything to deal with it. But just because it’s not for for anybody else but the healer ![]()
yeah, i mean generally there’s melee to deal with it if the healer isn’t doing it. tanks in my keys have been pretty good about it and i appreciate that
but yeah there’s absolutely no way for me to kill them unless i mouseover demonbolt w/ procs or hard target drain life lmao
as a resto shaman main this is true. i spend most of the time frost shocking orbs while the tank heals himself and my rock ele earthquakes everything. the tank can help too, but dps should be focused on doing that sweet giga damage. having to switch off to kill orbs can really mess with the dps numbers. we must pump those numbers as high as they can go
