Experience Eliminated Aura

Blizzard is making sure nobody in the group of a person with XP off will get experience, to eliminate twink boosting for quick leveling.

First Ill even start off by saying I’ve never purchased or used one of these boost methods that you’re trying to make impossible with this 8.2 change. I just believe its so tone deaf that it once again completely ignores the exact reason people do these things, so ill illuminate you Blizzard.

Your game isn’t about the leveling experience… it hasn’t been since Classic. Its about the content that you get to do at “max level.” Its the end game. You stick a few meaningless levels between us and the real game every single expansion pack that has irrelevant content and quite frankly isn’t usually any fun. So every time people have devised a way to speed the leveling process up faster than somebody in your development team deems acceptable you act very quickly to make sure the player-base is forced to experience the content the way you deem acceptable. However, how can you be so tone deaf to the game that you’ve actually created since TBC onward? The leveling doesnt matter, people wanna get by it as soon as possible. We aren’t married to one character anymore and that has long since been gone. Look at the multiple character swaps you support in MDI, arena tournies, and Mythic raid class stacking. You expect people to play multiple classes to be successful.

So really, get out of your own way Blizzard. You have created this game where end game is the only thing that matters but you continually find ways to curb leveling speed to “make leveling more enjoyable.” What?? That ship has sailed when leveling content is completely irrelevant.

This is a call to wake up. Look at the game and know that you’ve created an endgame only experience. You either must revamp your leveling system or just accept its not part of this game and restricting methods that people devise to quicken it up because its an atrocious experience doesn’t go too far in making a happy player-base. The gravity of the situation isn’t on par with “do you even have phones?” but its the same old Blizzard, completely remiss of any idea of whats going on in their own world that they’ve created.

Edit: Add on this guys philosophical opinions which mirror my own points.

I see no problem with this provided that twinks are in their own queues.

I don’t think you understand the subject at hand so I’ll ask you to use a few of the more popular fansites to get information on the subject.

I almost never level alts, but when I do I enjoy turning my exp off to do a few-too-many pieces of old content I like, old dungeons included.

Wouldn’t a exp eliminating aura be troublesome to others in my group? Also, putting people with exp off on their own queue is a quick way to make those dungeons unplayable.

Is that the solution they came up to stop DHs from selling Freehold boosting?

I seriously haven’t seen yet someone commenting about how there will be griefing other players via reduced exp, you’re gonna get into a group with a character who’s exp is stopped and then everyone will leave because they can’t get exp.

I cant wait for the griefers to kill LFD it’ll be fun to watch and read on the forums!

Great game design, blizz, you’ll provide us, unsubbed forum dwellers with countless hours of fun!!!

I mean, i’m not going to stop doing Halls of Reflection on a lvl 80 alt for the 127th time just because of this change. I will just get kicked enough times until the kick protection shows up, then everyone will be forced to be my friends or eat a 15-min deserter debuff.

Sounds like the kind of thing both sides will enjoy, amirite?

Yup. It’ll be fun to watch.
Maybe this is another “fix” for their “questing is the best” for leveling and they just want to discourage players from ever stepping into dungeons lol.

I just find it mind boggling that the developers double down on awful systems over and over again. You all have raised even more interesting points about the potential for griefing and the odd-outlier person who just turns it off for the hell of it.

I think there’s a vast majority of people and this is truly the way WoW has gone since TBC launch, where leveling is quite irrelevant. Blizzard’s insists on continually slowing the leveling experience though. To what end though? Are some developers personally upset that their content is being skipped? Feels like when Orgrimmar Arena was clearly awful and they kept forcing bad change after bad change till it disappeared… or bringing Ashran back now even though that failed. Its like developers get upset that people don’t like something so they instead double down on it.

This thread really isn’t entirely about this new change but just the overall attitude Blizzard has towards some of the things in their game they are completely tone deaf to. Look at WHY people are skipping your leveling process and don’t just take the easy cop out that Ive seen you do before… “path of least resistance is human nature.” That’s an easy way to just feel better about yourselves instead of being honest about the content you’re producing at Blizzard.

If this applies to other levels it’s a real bad move.

Is the debuff active in Legion dungeons at 110?

If they don’t want 110s queued for BfA instance they should just lock them till 111.

Screwing over people who are locked at 110 to do Legion or 60 to do base game that’s a bad move.

The common explanation going around right now is the difference between a party and an instance group. Some more information would be nice, but I think right now the theory is:

5 people who all queue randomly. 2 are XP off for some reason. Those 2 XP off people will get nothing (as expected) and the 3 who are not XP off will get the full XP amount.

3 people queue randomly. They get lumped in with 2 people in a party. Of those 2 people in the party, 1 of them is XP off.

The 3 people who queued randomly will get full XP. The person with XP off gets nothing. The person who queued in a party with the XP off person now gets 5% of the expected XP.

I can’t even imagine the drama and arguments that will follow when someone joins a group with xp off, and doesn’t fess up to it so he/she can be kicked from the group.

Hopefully the xp-off person has a little indicator on their name so we know who to kick.

Its funny how quick they are to fix XP off for boosting purposes because lord forbid people don’t enjoy leveling. Except its been years of exploiting where XP off twinks can join regular battlegrounds against non-XP off characters. Its an easy loophole that gets abused.

I don’t want them to revamp the leveling experience. It just isn’t fun nor needed by the majority of long term players. I will have over 20 120s by the end of this expansion, what will I do with more.

More money spent on leveling the less money there will be for the end game.

Kicking them would be pointless in the long run. If you get kicked enough times from random groups, you eventually become immune to kicks. Something like “This person can’t be votekicked for another 2 hours”. Eventually everyone would either be forced to leave or just finish the dungeon while getting no exp.

What I would like to see is something like

Once you get a character to 120, all other characters get a xp buff that allows you to get to 120 just by doing only the main story lines.

You are misunderstanding how this works.

If five players solo queue, one with xp off, no one is affected.

If two players group up PRIOR to joining the dungeon and one has xp off, the only other person in that dungeon that is affected is the person they grouped up with originally.

Right there with you. I think a revamp of the leveling system is needed but in a difference sense. End game is the only thing that matters now. So why are you gating me with useless leveling? I don’t get paid to do this like they are but it seems like a paragon system is in order or something.

So basically we’re about to have the option to buy 120 boosts from the store.

Paragon system is still leveling - just another name.
