Expansion's Loremaster to Unlock Dungeon Finder

Oh em goodness y’all, I just had a wonderful, albeit, radical idea. So I recently decided I wanted to re-experience the world, take my time on quests, read the quest text and invest in the story, instead of rushing as fast as I can to max level (by using dungeon finder). I’m actually having a lot of fun leveling a character this way. The only problem is, I have seen a total of precisely one other person while questing. Literally, only one other person. Suffice to say, the world, or at least the world on my realm, is quite dead.

So anyway, I honestly think one of, if not the biggest killers of the world is dungeon finder. Why go out and quest if you can just sit in the capital city and spam dungeons? Why go out and discover where the actual entrance of the dungeon is? Heck, I’ll bet most people (including myself) don’t even know where the actual physical entrance is to a lot of dungeons since dungeon finder just magically teleports us there.

The biggest argument I’ve heard in favor of dungeon finder is people don’t want to go out and re-quest in zones that they’ve already experienced, because that would be boring and redundant, which is totally understandable… but what about people who haven’t gone out and quested in all of the zones? What about new players? I don’t know about anyone else, but if I happened to be new to WoW I would probably end up doing what everyone else was doing and mostly use dungeon finder to level up, since it’s so readily available. Honestly, I think for a new player, that would get really boring really quick, and they would be missing out on so much more that the game has to offer. Dungeon finder makes the game seem so tiny and kind of boring if that’s the only leveling experience that people are having.

Ok, so now that I’ve laid out my reasoning, I think that in order to use dungeon finder, a player has to first get the lore master achievement in order to unlock the dungeons for that particular expansion. For instance, for Burning Crusade dungeons to become available on dungeon finder, one has to first finish the quest chains in Outland, and so on and so forth. This would work to get people back out into the world and at the same time satisfy the people who argue that they only use dungeon finder because they’ve already quested in all of the zones.

So yeah, I at least think it’s a good idea. Thoughts?

Oh this is gonna go over reeeeeal well .

They did this at the start of Cataclysm. People used it to blacklist the dungeons they didn’t like, such as Stonecore, on alts. Blizzard quickly abandoned the idea.

How about proving grounds silver to post in GD? That sounds good for you too?

That is how bad your idea sounds.

Ummm, last I heard it was agreed upon that just sitting there queuing RDF actually slows down you leveling.

The reason you see no one in the world is there a very few players playing period, combined with the fact that few want to level.

i actually hate having dungeon finder

people dont have to talk or be nice to one another
and because of dungeon finder i think some new players are very intimidated to do mythics because now they have to look for a group to join, an experience they didnt have from level 1 to 120.
At least that is the case with my friends new to the game.

I think we should also remove mounts and even the run speed. Smell the roses as you walk across the continent.

I don’t like it much either. Honestly, I wish it hadn’t been implemented at all since it totally breaks immersion, but, I think my idea would be a more than fair compromise, as opposed to completely doing away with it.

I just want my /4 LFG back and having to meet people at stones for summon. I made so many friends with that.

Ok, now you’re just being ridiculous, lol.

Yeah it is more realistic to just RP walk everywhere. You don’t see me sprinting to every location I am trying to get to IRL.

No because you’re driving…

I’m not talking about realism guys. Who in real life rides a tiger or mammoth? Your character running everywhere has been the same since Vanilla. Dungeon Finder, however is a fairly new phenomenon… Kinda, ish. It wasn’t a part of original WoW and I truly believe that the devs didn’t intend it to completely replace questing out in the world, but that’s what it’s being used for.

I was using sarcasm. I’ll edit with that disclaimer.

But to respond to your post!

I like your idea of having to get an achievement to use dungeon finder. I personally like questing vs dungeon grinding but I use to only dungeon grind my characters.

The only thing that I could think would be a problem is that new players might have a hard time finding other players to group up with that are new as well.

Makes a character on a dead RP server and complains. You realize people on RP asked for this, i.e. no CRZ.

It isn’t a good idea. It would literally do absolutely nothing to populate your world if that was your aim because guess what there are no/few players in the cities either on that server.

Respectfully, I disagree. Why are realms dead in the first place? Because less and less people are finding WoW interesting. People in low pop realms are transferring to high pop realms because there aren’t a whole lot of new players, and less and less old players are sticking around. I think Dungeon Finder, though not the whole problem, is contributing to WoW’s overall lackluster.

Realms like this one are dead because there are way too many RP servers. And yes you can think what you want doesn’t mean you are right.

I have never leveled up via dungeons, until I powerleveled my void elf at the start of 7.3.5. I always quested. New players quest. You are assuming just because you play a certain way and think a certain way all players play and think like you do - they do not.

And really as I said before it would do nothing for that server because there just aren’t people there to start with, i.e. they aren’t sitting in the cities waiting in queue. You are on the wrong server if you want to see the world populated because RPers have specifically asked for and gotten special treatment so they aren’t CRZ - enjoy.

Dungeon Finder has definetly killed the sense of community by cutting off the need to communicate.

This achievement systems reminds me a lot of the whole flying situation. They already gave us dungeon finder and even tho most people don’t think it is good for the game, there are still a lot of people who like it for the convenience and there would definitely be an uproar about making it something to achieve.

I do like your idea and is an interesting solution to the problem but I can see the community upset about “gating” something they use to have.

Oh yeah, the community being upset is inevitable. People will always get upset over change, but I honestly think it would be for the better longterm. I guess the best thing would have been to nip the problem in the bud and implement something like this as soon as Dungeon Finder was introduced, but hindsight.

Yeah I agree that there should have been a lot of things Blizz could have done earlier. They have a problem with giving things and then backtracking and taking it away. A lot of the time it just feels like Blizz doesn’t even know where to go with WoW.
