Exiles reach retcon

-Spoilers for the new starting ground exiles reach-

One of the bosses you fight in the dungeon is an Ogronn named Tungk.

This struck me, because the MU ogronn went extinct before the opening of the dark portal, according to chronicle.

So either we killed the last living ogronn, or those ogres kept the body of one and resurrected it, since they’re necromancer ogres.

Not at all important in the scheme of things but I thought it was interesting to point out. It’s more than likely blizz was using highmaul ogre assets and he was looking mean and scary enough to be a boss.

Or he’s new.

I mean, we have no idea how Ogronn reproduction works. I’ve certainly never seen a female Ogronn. Maybe Tungk emerged from the stone or something.

I’m sure it’s just a simple “blizzard forgot their own writing” or “you’re thinking harder about this than blizzard is” thing. :man_shrugging:

he could come from au draenor

Accroding to Wowpedia at least, some ogron were brought to the main universe with the mag’har.

I’d assume a couple got away or something.

He could also been a former Iron Horde Mag’har Ogron which was brought over from AU Draenor. The Ogres in Exile’s Reach appear to be a lot more advanced than the rest of the MU Ogres and remember that before the Mag’har came over or rather as they did many portals were opened across AU Draenor and many other beings hopped a ride over from the planet as did the large force we see among the Mag’har. Not only Ogres, but Ogron, Saberon and Botani as well.

(Speculative): In terms of chronology, the Mag’har joined the Horde after the events of Exile’s Reach. I think this Ogronn’s origins could be better explained as being either part of the very initial invasion of Azeroth by the Iron Horde (the WoD Pre-Patch event), or that Ogres brought it to Azeroth during the timeframe of WoD through spells using, say, the portal in Stormwind that connected Gorgrond to Azeroth.

Or he’s one of the AU Ogronn that escaped through the portal into Azeroth in the Mag’har recruitment.

I think that makes more sense than these ogres and this ogron in particular being a hold over from the Old Horde that somehow survived the rest of their extinction. We’ve had portals to AU Draenor since WoD and many people hopped a ride on those portals over right when the AU Mag’har joined the Horde. Many of which were ogres and ogron.

Hopefully they make mok’nathal playable instead of ogres.

And maybe a new type of human to offset the sheer size. Very tall, lean-to-bulky humans with adjustable bodyframes.

Instead of a race with a distinct culture, history and appearance, you want… slightly larger Orcs?

Armor effects and clipping are what worry me.

And have you ever lived with ogres?!

All new sphere of stinky and dirty.

Is it possible for existing characters to travel to Exile’s Reach?

Nope. You get a warning that there’s no returning once you finish.
Supposedly there’s a bug (maybe fixed already? I dunno) that can get you to go back by using a hearthstone toy before you receive your first real one in Stormwind, but then you’ll be trapped there unless a GM frees you. Or if you’re a mage and leveled up enough to learn a teleport, I suppose.

It was actually before that chronologically. Exile’s Reach is supposed to be pre-BFA

If it’s anything like the goblin starting zone, your hearth changes to the docks where you spawn in upon completion (for goblins, anyway).

Considering ogronn are mutant Gron it is possible Gruul caused and unknown generation of them before we killed him. Simple answer though is he could have been from the Iron Horde’s original invasion force or Zaela’s forces.

I checked this on a newly made character to see, and the Hearth Stone Location was listed as the “North Sea”

Though I didn’t use it for fear of getting the newly made Forsaken locked out.

Back on topic,
The new area and the Gorian Empire Ogres (with Gorian Emblems, buildings, and Armor) all fascinate me. They raise a lot of questions on Ogres in Azeroth, as we’ve never seen this level of technology (comparatively) from the Ogres before, and it makes me wonder if there are other islands out there that might also have Gorian outposts, or settlements.

Also Horde side at least, I find it interesting that both the expedition, and the rescue expedition both were led by Warlords for the Horde, and at least the rescue organization was using one of the ‘capital ship’ Forsaken boats. This is notable because I thought the one in BFA was the first of it’s class, and because even if it is not this is a serious amount of resources to put into an expedition to the North Sea.

Assuming the Alliance has similar leadership on these missions, it makes me wonder if there is some deeper plot there, especially since the location on the map seems to be in the general direction of where the Dragon Isles may or may not be.

They built a model for Sylvanas that is clipping when she just casually stands there.
This is the amount of care given by Blizzard now.

Half-ork/half-ogre mok’nathal are preferable to ogres.
